live, this is abc7 news. >> a dub nation celebration, the warriors now one win away from their third nba championship in four years. we have much more on tonight's big win. >> but first to our top story, you may have noticed the smoke on your way home. a fire scene from miles in the east bay. tonight investigators are looking into what sparked the flames that spread to a junk yard. >> good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm alma daetz. a grass fire spread to a junk yard tonight in pittsburgh along the pittsburgh antioch highway. >> abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow is there. melanie. >> reporter: they have determined what caused this fire. they say a burning candle in a tent. they also say gusting winds spread the fire quickly. from sky 7 you could see thick dark plumes of smoke. >> this was all black. >> reporter: rodney stanley got the call just after 5:30 p.m. a
1:10 am
evgeny station fire that had spread to this junk yard. his family's paving equipment was parked here. >> when you work for that and to see it could be gone, it's scary, you know, because that's what puts food on the table. >> reporter: officials issued a public health advisory due to the smoke. >> the stuff that's burning is particularly nasty. it's tires, upholstery, and seats. >> reporter: helicopters dropped water from overhead. >> it looks like it's getting under control and just pray there's minimal damage. >> reporter: while investigators quickly determine the cause. >> a candle in a tent as part of a homeless encampment. >> reporter: officials say a firefighter injured his hand but returned to fighting the fire. two more people suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. one of them was taken to the hospital. in pittsburgh, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> now to san francisco's mayoral race which is nowhere

near over. less than a percentage point separates the top two candidates, london breed and mark leno. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is here with the story tonight. lilian. >> reporter: tens of thousands of votes still need to be counted. and until they've all been processed, the san francisco department of elections will have updated results on the mayor's race every day at 4:00 p.m. the ballots keep coming in. those postmarked on or before election day are valid as long as they arrive by friday. >> so, today we received 13,000, almost 13,000 such ballots. we rechecked the postmarks and most of those ballots have good postmarks on them so it's 13,000 ballots that we didn't have yesterday, we have today. >> reporter: and every day the san francisco department of elections starts fresh counting all the ballots all over again. according to the latest count, roughly 75% of jane kim's voters chose mark leno as their second choice, while 25% chose breed. a difference that's pushing leno slightly ahead despite breed having captured the most first place votes in the first round.
1:12 am
no surprise that one day after the election the candidates have different views on the instant runoff system called rank choice voting. >> this is the one that we are dealing with as it relates to this race, so for now we're stuck with it. >> it promotes more positive campaigning because if i want your second vote i'm not going to drop a bomb on you. and so i think we saw that in this race as well. >> reporter: san francisco state professor and political analyst joe went through rank choice voting twice as a candidate for oakland mayor. >> it does feel a little unfair when you're the person who gets the most first place votes and you didn't win because you didn't get seconds and thirds. arguably if you want everybody's candidate you want to get more than 50% and not have to deal with rank choice. >> reporter: the race is too close to call and is expected to take days if not weeks to determine the winner. in san francisco, lilian kim abc7 news. >> meantime the two men facing off for governor in the november election did not waste any time getting out their message today. both democrat gavin newsom and

1:14 am
needed to investigate the threats, other longer-term investigations were suffering. >> we think creating this group that are totally responsible for addressing these types of threats is a far better use of those resources. >> a 13-year-old student was arrested in connection with the valley view threat. police also say guns were found in the student's home. >> now, take a look at the surveillance video showing last week's crash between a truck and a smart train in santa rosa. a box truck drove through the crossing arms and was hit by the train. watch now. nailed. the train was going 77 miles an hour. the surveillance video was uploaded to the website jiffy cat. no one on the train was hurt. >> one win away. that's what dubs fans across the bay area are saying tonight. >> yeah, and it took an epic performance by kevin durant to seal this victory tonight. abc7 sports director larry beil
