wanted for. no one was seriously hurt. tonight, tension over the bay area's housing crisis heating up in one east bay city. berkeley city council members are giving approval to banning overnight r.v. parking. >> here, we're committed to building a better bay area and finding solutions to problems. we wanted to know is there room for compromise. >> lisa, what's happening right now? >> reporter: dan, that meeting has become very emotional. take a look. it's still going on. it will go on until about 12:30. the emotion is coming out in the form of yelling at council and even at young children. [ chanting ] >> reporter: tonight's berkeley city council meeting pit r.v. owners against council members. item 21 is a proposed r.v. ban.
most have lived on 8th and harrison for mostly a year. they fell harassed. >> i have to live out here. i don't know what i'm going to do. >> reporter: she graduated from cal last year. >> i'm trying to pay back my student loans. that's why i live in an r.v. >> reporter: not everyone calls the r.v. residents good neighbors. >> we have human feces in our dumpster. students don't feel safe going out to their cars tonight. >> reporter: oakland county called for collaboration. berkeley council members insist there is collaboration. the ban would show compassion. >> it would require basic notice of the ordinance and opportunity to move or cure the issue before enforcement. >> reporter: once the meeting began, all sides spoke their
truth. >> i want to have a place to sleep at night. >> letting people park wherever they want, whatever they want, is not the solution. >> reporter: on tuesday of next week, two council members plan to unveil a more comprehensive program for r.v. owners, which would include permitting and a registration system. live in berkely >> thank you thak you thank y. in the south bay, a measles alert for those in santa clara county. an infected tourist made several stops across the region and may have exposed shoppers, diners and other visitors to the highly contagious viral infection. abc 7 news reporter amanda castillio is live with the details. >> reporter: the tourist had a busy six days. they made 20 stops across santa
clara county, including right here at the macey's at fair mall. an infected tourist made 20 stops across the south bay in just six days. march 16th, the first and the busiest. breakfast at this ihop in san jose. a stop at the apple visitor center in cupertino. and then, visited stanford before making a stop at this walmart in mountain view. the day ended in santa clara, at macy's at the valley fair mall. >> there were numerous locations. >> reporter: county health officials say this is not a public health energy. adding the vast majority of people are vaccinated and protected. still, this is a contagious respiratory disease, transmitted from one person to another through the air. >> you don't know if it's just going to be a cough.
it's concerning. >> reporter: andrea says her 3-year-old daughter is with her all the time. diners in san jose should be on alert. sunnyvale residents, the person made stops to cvs pharmacies and to the 7-eleven obvious evelyn avenue. babies are not protected from measles because they're too young to be vaccinated. >> kids, their immune systems aren't developed. i wouldn't take the risk myself, at least. >> reporter: symptoms include high fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and a full-body rash. we have a list of the locations that the infected tourist visited in those six days. go to abc7news.com and click on this story. >> thanks, amanda. the latest on an i-team report on the college
for money laundering. they believe it was for their demand of a preliminary hearing. and we learned more about rick singer. another college consultant, at one point, they had the same client trying to get into college. >> excellent at increasing probabilities. but we can never get it to 100%. he said it was a done deal and i didn't have to worry. >> the client's child ended up attending usc. his parent is now charged in connection with the scheme. ko says after the scandal broke, singer told him, with enough time it will blow over and things will be fine. giants ceo larry baer is suspended without pay for an altercation with his wife. tmz sports obtained video of
this incident. last week, the san francisco district attorney's office decided not to file charges. his suspension runs through july 1st. he issued a statement saying, i respect and accept the commissioner's decision and appreciate the fair and thorough process taken by mlb and the giants. i made a serious mistake that i sincerely regret. chicago prosecutors are dropping all charges against jussie smollett. the city's mayor and police chief are angry over the decision. >> reporter: jussie smollett's record will be wiped clean. the 16 felony charges against the "empire" actor dropped. >> not for a moment was it in vain. i've been truthful and consistent on every level since day one. >> reporter: that deal blind siding and angering the mayor and top cop, who stand by the investigation. >> do i think justice was served? no. what do i think justice is?
i think this city is owed an apology. >> this is a whitewash of justice. at the end of the day, it was mr. smollett that convi convic i false claim. >> reporter: back in january, smollett told police two men attacked him using racial and homophobic slurs and putting a noose around his neck. after investigating, police say smollett orchestrated the attack, insisting they had enough evidence that smollett lied, including the testimony of these two brothers that say he paid them by check. >> mr. smollett is still saying he is innocent. is there no decency in this man? >> reporter: tuesday, prosecutors acknowledging they don't believe his story, saying they dropped the charges to focus on violent crime. >> this is not an exoneration. to say he was exonerated by us or anyone else, is not true.

in the east bay, thousands of people can expect to get a text alert about an earthquake as part of a test. oakland will test earthquake early warning technology with people in a 60-square-block area of lake merit. a test to see how long it takes to get the alert delivered to us, once the data is sent to state officials. studies show that can give people at least five seconds notice. >> once the earthquake alert is delivered -- >> earthquake. duck, cover and hold on. >> that gives you just enough time to dr hold on. and that took me about five seconds. and that reduces your risk of being injured.

off of the post line? this along with heating from the sun is going to trigger some thunderstorms tomorrow. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. we're seeing slippery roadways out there. golden gate camera, it's slippery. it's a level one system. showers heavy at times. expect thunderstorms with small hail and wind gusts at 20 and 30 miles per hour. 11:0 tonight, the focus is north bay and east bay. as we head into 4:00 p.m., notice the wet roadways. you need extra time for the commute. fewer showers at 5:00 a.m., only at 10:00 p.m., heavy rain, the potential is there for thunderstorms with some hail going right on through noontime. if i were you, i would try to keep the lunch inside. and as we go to 2:00 p.m., some heavy rainfall. some of the thunderstorms could turn severe in the south bay and
the east bay. we'll keep an eye for you. mike nicco is here at 4:30 to 7:00 a.m., tracking this system. 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, scattered showers. we'll keep the theme going. but isolated at best, between 8:00 p.m. and 11:30 at night. in terms of rainfall totals, where you see a thunderstorm develop, could see 8/10 of an inch of rain. as you look at your temperatures, first thing in the morning, 40s, 50s, allow that extra time for that morning commute. then, for the afternoon, if you don't have to go out, avoid certain areas like the south bay and the east bay, where we see thunderstorms developing. it will be a cooler day. 50ed as and 60s. above 5,000 feet, 3 feet expected for the highest peaks. showers expected tomorrow. lighter showers on thursday. and break out the shades. we'll preview some spring sunshine. and temperatures are going to
