((michael stevens)) kirsten... the rain has stopped... but there's still a light drizzle coming down... making for some slippery conditions. earlier this morning the i-15 was riddled with emergency lights... as crews assisted drivers along the interstate. the rain isn't only causing some problems right now... the brunt of it started yesterday. just about every part of the valley saw rain. here's what it looked like on many roads across southern nevada. the roads were wet and slick... and a lot of drivers could be crashes. another factor out here on the roads is the wind... so you want to be careful behind the wheel. if you're heading up mount charleston...

to start a big flood control/widenin g project on rainbow boulevard. if you live in the southwest part of town, listen up. this is a 420-day project that will begin with the widening of rainbow boulevard to three lanes (each direction) between sunset and russell road. after the widening is done, crews will cut down the center of rainbow and install flood control facilities. there are three schools in the area and a bunch of local businesses, so this stretch can get pretty busy, so the county is taking special precautions. for example, all school walk routes will be left alone 30 minutes before and after school. crews are also required to keep two, 10- foot wide travel lanes open, in both directions, on rainbow, sunset and russell between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. when work begins, you may want to start using buffalo or jones

diabetes and obesity are at epidemic levels in women of child bearing age.. and now a new study is linking the two conditions to autism risk. (dr. dani fallin/johns hopkins bloomberg school of public health) we found that mothers who were obese and diabetic during pregnancy had a risk four times greater than mothers who didn't of the child developing autism the study published in the journal pediatrics also found a higher autism risk in mothers who developed gestational diabetes. legally, service dogs are welcome in any restaurant. the american with disabilities act says service animals may accompany people in all areas where the public is allowed. which is why a woman named brandi reached out to me via email for some help. she says she was asked to leave a local fast food chain because she had her service dog with her. she didn't want to go on camera... but she did want me to investigate and see what i could do about the problem she had. well, after management was made aware of the situation ... they decided to review security footage to confirm her story. once they did that ... they did issued a formal apology to brandi and gave her a refund for her meal. brandi was satisfied with the way things turned out .. and she hopes this story educates more people about service animal rights. that's our same hope, as well. with 8 on your side, i'm michelle mortensen.///
