((denise valdez)) and i'm denise valdez. authorities have a description of the suspected hit-and-run driver... and hope you can help put him behind bars. 8 news now reporter mauricio marin is live at north vista hospital... where he spoke with the mother of the child. mauricio...? ((mauricio marin)) as you can imagine the mother of the two-year old is devastated. family worked to comfort her at the hospital. the mother says her baby girl evelyn green was riding a scooter with her brother when a van jumped the curb and struck her. ((vickie davis/mother: i grabbed her and i was like evelyn. i can feel her breathing and she was like looking at my her eyes were rolling in the back of her head and i was yelling someone help me there was a lot of people there and i remember the guy walking up to me. he was saying i'm sorry i'm sorry.")) old exactly one month ago today. as the family grieves this terrible loss...they are also frustrated. davis says she frantically waited for an ambulance for 15 minutes but none showed up. so she finally put her 2 year old in a neighbors car and drove her to the hospital where she died. davis says the driver stopped. he stumbled out of the car and came up to her apologizing. she says he smelled like booze and eventually fled the scene. (( vickie davis/mother: "he ght want to turn himself in i know who he is i see him all the time he will get what he deserves for taking my baby away from me. my baby was innocent." )) ((mauricio marin)) north las vegas police say they are looking for a hispanic man in his 40's with facial hair. witnesses told police the man was driving a white windowless van. last seen driving off eastbound on lake mead boulevard. ((sharie johnson)) the deadline for a plan is january 1, 2017. but right now... educators are weighing on what they hope to see happen in the
((sharie johnson)) state lawmakers and local educators are mapping out a plan to reorganize ccsd. and nevada state college education dean, dennis potthoff... says everything must be considered. ((dennis potthoff, dean, school of education, nsc classes can be too small, they can be too big too and so where's that sweet spot in terms of class size, well then apply that to a school, what's the ideal size for a school, what's the ideal size for a district )) ((sharie johnson)) and there is a key piece of the puzzle potthoff hopes to see. schools business administrator the first is higher taxes for everyone due to duplicated services and positions but also without equalization of funding you get a poor district and a rich district )) ((sharie johnson)) but larsen says there we're advantages. technology announced 626- thousand dollars in stem workforce challenge grants earlier this month. six entities received awards, including the college of southern nevada, which is getting about 150-thousand dollars to create a new associate's degree in cyber security. nevada state college will receive about 55-thousand dolalrs for a horticulture certificate program that will teach hydroponics and other techniques for farming in the desert. /// ((tedd florendo))
