focused on battling prescription drug abuse. the 2-day summit will try to come up with new laws to curb the rise in opioid addiction. agriculture secretary tom vilsack will also be here to talk about what rural communities are doing. in nevada in 2014....382 people died from drug overdoses. today, the federal government announced 53 million dollars going to a variety of states to tackle the opioid problem.. but none was allocated for nevada./// ((brian loftus)) august is going out as a hot one. sherry is the wather center to us about when we could be seeing some mountain storms though... sherry.. ((shakala alvaranga)) brian, the last group is on their final portion of the test ... it's a group of about 20 people. this is what the test looks like... pushups, sit ups, an agility run, and from there .... vertical jumps. the candidates will also have to complete tw and half run. the department invited around 200 candidates to take part in the physical fitness test. of those, sixteen were females. we talked to one candidate today, who says the recent media attention surrounding police brutality and racial tensions, inspired him to take action. took off... and has already touched down in the communist nation. kris van cleave has the latest on the historic flight. for first officer frank barreras, being at the controls of todays history making flight to santa clara, cuba is to come full circle. his father -- frank, sr -- was just a teenager when he fled cuba on one of the last commercial flights to the u-s 55 years ago. ( frank barreras/jetblue first officer) i never thought this day would m it's an amazing...amazing times jetblue is the first u-s airline to resume regularly scheduled airline service under new rules allowing americans greater access to cuba. soon as many as 110 daily flights from 10 airlines will depart the u-s for the island nation. tropical storm 'hermine' is making its way to the florida gulf coast. people are being asked to prepare for the storm by either leaving town or securing their windows. the n-f-l officials moved the preseason game at tampa bay to today instead of tomorrow... to try to get ahead of the storm. it's expected to make landfall north of tampa or even the florida panhandle tomorrow evening./// ((brian loftus)) ((sherry swensk)) into valley skies... with moisture being drawn up into the desert and southern nevada.
