((paul joncich)) we've heard from protestors and also wells cargo regarding the company's proposal to expand and add another plant. good evening. i'm paul joncich. ((denise valdez)) i'm denise valdez in for christianne tonight. nearby neighbors have complained about the dust-filled air around the gravel pit on spring mountain and tenaya for some time. and now the county's department of air quality is weighing in. uslive with what the county is saying about expansion? ((brittany edney)) denise and paul--the county's department of air quality tells us that over the past two years, they've received 35 complaints regarding wells cargo--most of those dust related-- and that they investigate any complaints they receive. and their investigation has resulted in some violations. ((brittany edney)) wells cargo tells 8 news now that its dust and operating

and state regulations. but the county's department of air quality says its issued 4 violations during 2015 and 2016.... two for visable emmissions, then performance testing and unpermitted emission units. ((susan brager, clark county commissioner, district f )) "when a complaint or a concern comes in, they go out to the site, because we would get written up if we just let dirt or dust particles fly anywhere." )) ((brittany edney)) the department adds the paul meyer park air quality monitoring station keeps an eye on the plant and the air quality saying "it has shown one exceedance for dust in two years, and that exceedance correlates to a high-wind event." ((brittany edney)) wells cargo is asking the county to approve a proposal adding another plant on the south side of spring mountain. the county says, quote: "a review of the application is under way and will include some air quality modeling to look at emissions that would occur with the new equipment to ensure that emissions continue to be within allowable standards." ((brittany edney)) but that's not keeping nearby families from worrying about their health.

"the main concern for me is health, i have two kids, a 9 year old and a 4 year old, just the amount of chemicals that they make their asphalt with, it's just going to be very bad for our health." ((brittany edney)) as for what's going to happen with wells cargo's plans for expansion... county officials tell me the proposal is planned to be heard this week by planning and zoning as well as county officials. so, we should have a better idea later this week reporting live, brittany edney, 8 news now./// some major movers and shakers gathered on the unlv campus to push for a 1.9 billion dollar nfl stadium 12 year nfl veteran and las vegan steven jackson and former raider napolian mccallum joined howie long in support of the recommendation to bring the nfl to las vegas. former mayor jan jones along with county commissioners and unlv officials also lended support.
