hillary clinton was secretary of state, and then they will weed out any that are not about government business. agents will use some automated software to search what is left for duplicates they have already found during the investigation of the clinton e-mail server, and any that remain will be checked for classified information. officials say there no way to tell how long this is going to take but if it does go quickly and in the event nothing classified is found, the fbi could say so within the next few days. it all depends on how many of the e-mails are duplicates and new to the investigators. the fbi faces new questions this morning about the time line for notifying fbi director comey about the e-mails. some officials say agents first noticed the e-mails earlier this month. and fbi officials says agents got weiner's computer to check for evidence of alleged sexting, then there was no urgency for that search, only recently the officials say that the potential significance of those e-mails became clear. >> pete williams with the latest
from washington. thank you. >> let's bring in nicolle wallace, and chief legal correspondent, good morning to all of you. nicole, back to october of 2015, a year ago. when bernie sanders said at that debate with hillary clinton americans are sick and tired of your damn e-mails, what are we talking about now with eight days to go until the election. the question is it an october distraction or october game changer? >> well, it's on october surprise, and i think you start at the right place. the original sin is hers, but the question that none of us here knows the answer to is have voters taken this into account already. we know this will thrill the trump voter, this will depress and discourage hillary clinton supporters, make them anxious. what we don't know is all those voters and i wouldn't even call them undecided. they are people who don't like either choice. will that push them one way or the other. >> can we talk about what james
comey did. i assume he felt when his agents came to him to say we need a warrant to search this lap top, he figures okay, that's going to leak out. and that information is going to get out so i might as well get ahead of it and write this letter. on the other hand the letter is so vague that it has the same effect, partial information that's out there, that anybody can use to their advantage. >> right. two pieces of that. on the election i think this headline clearly not good for hillary clinton, because it says clinton and fbi. but if you actually read these articles over the course of the week going into monday morning it's not bad for hillary clinton because the letter vague as you point out savannah, didn't say they found anything yet. they just want to look whrks jim comey got too far out over his skis is a question. >> it's vague but like hiding cheese in your desk drawer. whether you intend it to cause a commotion everyone's talking about it. >> and jim comey made choices. it didn't name the other case
but in hours other leaks did that it's anthony weiner and huma abedin. did jim comey do more harm than good even if he felt what he felt and says was prudent. >> we're not ignoring you steve but to nicole you got to love washington, the very people, the democrats who are exstoling the independence of jim comey when he said i'm not going to prosecute are now saying shame on him, and the republicans trump who was ripping the fbi for its lackluster investigation now jim comey is a hero. >> why everyone says you want a friend in washington get one of the canine variety because they are the only ones that won't turn on you with the news. what we'll be tested. i know you'll get to this. what will be tested a week ago the same poll that has hillary clinton ahead by one had her ahead by 12. they are both wrong. she was never ahead 12, probably not in a one-point race. the polls will probably always about four to six points. what this is going to test is the durability of her lead going into the scandal. >> i'm going to get you up to
the board but donald trump, how does he play this hand? does he have to play it a little more carefully than he's started to play it? >> what he has to do is something he has been incapable of doing over the long entire campaign, that is be disciplined. he has been handed the dream message for the home stretch after campaign. if he can stay on the attack and stay focused on this message, in not take to twitter at 3 in the morning and pick a fight with somebody, not get baited into a fight off topic and creates a new distraction that seems simple for trump. a difficult thing to do. >> you have some new polls taken before this comey news. >> right. so we can go here and show you. you've got that poll we showed at the top that show as one-point race. that was indicating there may be new enthusiasm from republican voters. so before all of this started here's what the road to 270 looked like. two new polls coming out yesterday again these do not, do not take into account wa we had the news on friday.
look you see hillary clinton here in florida, ahead by a point. basically a dead even race there in florida. this is a must win race for donald trump. then look in north carolina, again, must win state for donald trump, this is the challenge for trump why they need this is story. 6 points behind in a must win state. again if you are donald trump when we say you need a jolt from this news you need every state that is gray on this map right now, you need to win and then you need to also pick up one of these blue states now. you need a surprise and as peter said more than 20 million votes already cast. >> all right. thank you all. we're not used to having three of you here. >> bigger. >> we're going to have a little more on this later including a closer look at the relationship between hillary clinton, huma abedin and anthony weiner. to a dramatic end and deadly as well to the nearly week-long man hunt for a suspected gunman in oklahoma. blake mccoy has that. good morning. >> reporter: savannah, good morning.
