we have john travolta on the show tonight. [ cheers and applause ] and this weekend is actually the 40th anniversary of the movie "grease." [ cheers and applause ] to celebrate president trump and kim jong-un sang a duet of "you're the one that i want." [ laughter ] >> steve: oh! >> jimmy: isn't that nice? it's really sweet. >> steve: sweet. that's so sweet. trump got back to the white house today. he walked through the doors and yelled, "i'm home!" and then remembered he fired everyone. and -- [ laughter ] actually the people at the white house are pretty excited that trump is back. i mean, just take a look at what they had to say. sarah huckabee sanders said, "oh good." [ laughter ] chief of staff, john kelly was like, "so jazzed to hear all about the trip." [ laughter ] melania trump said, "wait, he's back? like now?" [ laughter ] and finally, the white house kitchen staff screamed, "code red, defrost the nuggets! go, go, go! go! get me -- dinosaur -- dinosaur shape, dinosaur shaped!" but trump is really excited to tell everyone about the summit.
in an interview last night trump talked about how he and kim really hit it off. maybe a bit too much. watch this. >> could you tell at the beginning? what was your -- what was that first minute? >> i felt very good at the beginning. the relationship was really good. he's got a very good personality. he's funny. it's been a very intense relationship. it's been short and very intense. [ laughter ] that's right. tomorrow trump turns 72. but he doesn't tweet a day over 12. it's, very nice. [ laughter ] actually today it was announced the u.s. will host the 2026 world cup with mexico. players can either travel from the u.s. to mexico by plane or just walk past the wall that still won't be built. it's up to you, you can choose. accent. old school -- >> jimmy: it really was. >> brooklyn accent. >> jimmy: and what made you want to play gotti? >> well, the family actually asked me, believe it or not. what can i do? >> jimmy: whatever they say. whatever -- [ light laughter ] yeah, sure! what time do you want me on set? i'm sorry. yeah, sure. i'll shoot right now. don't say shoot. [ light laughter ] okay, yeah. >> although it took seven years to actually come to fruition, through many casts, very many scripts, many directors. i think it was good prep, because they were 24/7. that family is lovely. they helped us with all the data we needed for -- you know, to be our characters fully and come to please them, you know. >> jimmy: 'cause he was a mafia boss. he was a hitman. >> yeah. he was all -- listen, he lived by the sword, he died by the sword. but he was also a passionate man about his family. and, john gotti, jr., was there every day on the set making sure we -- he quality controlled. >> jimmy: oh, my god. [ light laughter ] i would have freaked out. are you kidding me?
i would have been like, "how do we tell them to get off the set?" how much pressure? like, "is that okay for you, john?" "it's okay. it's all right. it's all right." [ light laughter ] >> victoria, the mother and wife of john sr., she was very valuable and helpful. all the video, all the family footage. all that contributed to interpretation. >> jimmy: and kevin connolly directed, did a great job directing it. >> kevin did a great job. >> jimmy: it opens with you just talking straight to the camera and saying this is my story. and then it goes into, like, almost, like -- you almost hear, like, that kind of good italian -- it's almost like the -- [ humming ] it's almost like a -- [ humming ] and then it goes into this awesome pitbull track. >> yes. >> jimmy: and it gets like -- >> my man, pitbull. >> jimmy: nasty! it's good. and then -- but it's all original words about gotti. i mean this is a -- >> yes. >> jimmy: pitbull wrote a full on -- >> he actually saw a photograph of the real gotti and myself and he got so excited about the similarity, that he said, "do you think it would be all right if i wrote a song for your movie?"
i said, "we'd be privileged, honored, would love it." and then he called back and said, "can i score your movie?" >> that's a -- well, you know, like in "pulp fiction" i grew up with all these kind of novelty dances. so in "grease" there were coming -- they needed a step for that "you're the one that i want" at the end. so i said, "well, we used to do the four corners. why don't we do that?" then the choreographer said, "show it to me." and i did and -- >> jimmy: what is the -- can you show it to me? >> sure. come on. let's do it. [ laughter ] it's like the grown-up version of, are you my mother? >> jimmy: are you my husband? >> is it you? is it you? who is it? >> jimmy: an adult children's book, yeah. >> and then, somebody tells me there's literally an instagram account called hot guys reading that is mostly pictures of hot guys on the subway reading. and i was like where have i been my whole life. >> jimmy: i never heard of this thing. >> i didn't know. >> jimmy: hot dudes reading.
>> it's a thing. >> jimmy: it's got like a a million followers on instagram. >> i didn't know either. >> jimmy: well, i read all the time.
