president trump wants funding for his border wall, but lawmakers won't budge, many of them, for now. tonight a lot of bay area federal employees are in limbo. gene elliott has the impact of this possible shutdown. gene, the clock is ticking. >> well, the operators of alcatraz tours hope the shutdown can be avoided. some stiticketholders won't be getting on the boat. >> we'll be able to stay open and run tours during the day. not the late afternoon and night tours. there's a possibility if there is a government shutdown, we may have to close on saturday altogether. >> reporter: uncertain waters ahead for alcatraz cruises. a gft shutdown would limit access to alcatraz island because it's run by the national park service. visitors who saw the rock tonight say it seems unfair. >> i'll be deeply disapoined. >> reporter: the house and senate need to pass a bill tomorrow president trump will sign to prevent a partial government shutdown.

the president says he won't sign anything that doesn't include $5 billion for a southern border wall. >> this is a waste of taxpayer money. it is ridiculous. it is embarrassing. >> the president said this is something i believe in because i care about the mernl people. >> reporter: after heated debate house republicans passed a spending bill with the border wall funding, but it's not expected to pass the senate. with no agreement in sight, the park service is working to figure out what the impact will be on bay area attractions. we do know the post office will keep delivering holiday packages and air traffic controllers and tsa agents will keep arptsz operating. some boats to alcatraz may be docked. >> we'll be doing a lot of explaining on what's going on here. >> a lot of explain and a lot of refunding of money to ticket holdsers if that sthutdown goes forward. reporting live in san francisco, gene elliott, nbc bay area news. those employees would not get paid either if the shutdown

airport force add i two-day closure. now, the airport believes someone is intentionally trying to delay flights. they say there's no terror threats. they are now looking for the people flying those drones. a massive marijuana recall after a lab was caught faking test resuls. state regulators are ordering the recall of pot products from 29 companies. this all steps from sequoia analytical lab in sacramento. investigators say the lab's director falsified results for nearly two dozen pesticides it for months. the lab is now closed. the cannabis companies must either pay to have their products tested elsewhere or destroy them. some are already -- well, it's a mystery that has grimd the area. the zodiac killer struck for the first time. a young couple parked in venisa along the road. 50 years later, there are still

in the late 1960s, early 1970s with his cryptic writings to local newspapers and his chilling appearance. bets its believes she's seen the zodiac killer many years ago. she says it's important that people don't forget that he could still be out there. >> he has a monotone voice, and he sounds just like he is reading, but he is not. that's how he talks. >> until this day? >> yeah. >> you believe he is still alive. >> i know he is. >> reporter: and she believes he didn't work alone 50 years ago. a murder mystery that many people here in the bay area will never forget. in vallejo, sheryl herd, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, cheryl. protests to president trump's immigration policies. san jose has the largest vietnamese population in the u.s. many rallied at the santa clara county building. they worry that president trump is trying for deport those who came to the united states who fled violence during the vietnam war. there is an agreement between u.s. and vietnam from 2008 that protects people from being deported.

however, the administration maintains it does not protect people who are undocumented or who kmcommitted a crime. >> maybe they made a mistake years ago, and your honor tunde administration, they were allowed to stay here. because of the change in the administration, they're going to be looking at these people in a different way. >> advocates worry that hundreds of people could be impacted locally. well, a touching moment in a reading is being shared with us tonight by the family of a dying boy. this is a picture of the boy's mother from yemen who arrived in the bay area last night. in the photo they gave us you see her holding her son, abdullah. the 2-year-old was on life support at children's hospital in oakland. he has a rare brain debts order, and doctors say, sadly, he has only a few days to live. his father is a u.s. citizen, but his mother needed a visa to visit, which was complicated because of the u.s. travel ban against seven countries, including yemen. after contacting the media and making a plea for help, three members of congress wrote letters to the state department

asking for a waiver for mom. it was granted on tuesday, and she arrived at sfo last night. a warning tonight for pg&e customers. police say people are getting calls telling them that their bill is overdue. a recorded message asked them to call an 800-number and give their address. the person then tells them the payment is late. careful here. it's a scam. up next, a police sex scandal in the heart of the silicon valley. the video causing turmoil in that department. >> wet weather returning in the bay area. we'll put a track on this and details on a second chance just before christmas. that's coming up in a few minutes. and how about this? a christmas surprise that the survivors in bute county didn't see coming. we'll take you there.

a ride share driver captured this motorcycle crash this san francisco, and it was no accident. police say the dash cam video shows a woman hitting the motorcyclist with her bag, causing him to wreck. it happened last night at 20th and valencia. police say the woman's excuse is that she thought the motorcyclist was too close to her. >> it is unusual for someone to be so aggressive and strike someone who didn't touch them or didn't assault them. >> 43-year-old susan ferrero was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. two rookie police officers have been fired and two veteran officers suspended for allegedly sending pornographic videos, and the woman in that video is a fellow cop. nbc bay area's damian has the exclusive story. >> reporter: the allegations are stunning. sources tell nbc bay area the

female officer made a porn video with her husband while she was a cop in hawaii. they allegedly streamed it live on porn sometime before sun sunnyveil recruited that officer. the sex video recently got into the hands of her fellow officers who allegedly passed it around or showed it to co-workers. sources tell me the department quickly fired two rookies who were still on probation and suspended two veterans. >> i this i that's how karma works. >> if you do something bad to somebody, then you get fired. >> well, that would be a really stupid thing to do. i mean, seriously. shouldn't they know better even if they're rookies? >> mark garcea is a retired sheriff's lieutenant in santa clara county. >> we need to be held to a higher standard. >> nbc bay area is not naming the female officer in this report. sunnyvale police dekriend our

request for an interview. if a statement, the department said, "the city cannot disclose personnel information related to public safety officers," adding, "the city does not maintain a specific policy on viewing or distributing pornography at work." the city says that can change if it involves offensive conduct, harassment, and conduct unbecoming an officer. dami damian, nbc bay area news. new at 11:00 a disturbing case involving young children. mountainview police arresting marco alfarr on. they say he is kicked a huge collection of child porn. police got a tip in august about pictures of kids on a tumbler page. they found a drop box account also with hundreds of pictures and videos of children as young as 6 months old. investigators say they tracked the drop box account back to him.

>> those neighbors are now dealing with the homeowners association. well, tonight a christmas celebration in butte county that almost didn't happen. the survivors of last month's fire enjoyed a night filled with food, games, smiles, and a visit from santa. >> we are so proud. our parent company comcast nbc universal teamed up with the boyds and girls club to host that event. nbc bay area was there. >> reporter: for many families here this is the only christmas they will get this year, so organizers decided to put on a spectacular event. >> well, we got here.

we made cookies, and then we went and we ate. >> reporter: faith dunn enjoyed the face painting. >> merry christmas. >> pretty crowding, but exciting meeting new people. >> she is one of a family of seven who lost their home in paradise. alicia rogers is her aunt. >> before it hasn't felt like christmas, but here it feels like christmas. >> the whole aim of this event is to help people forget about the fires and simply celebrate the holidays. >> this is the type of support we need, but it's an event that nearly didn't happen. 22 staff members at the boys and girls club lost their homes in the fire, and other resources were stretched thin. >> this is an event they have every year, but they year they weren't going to be able to do it. >> we didn't want that to happen. >> comcast took on the holiday party on behalf of the boys and girls club. in ten days they put on this event. along with the games, photo booth, and pictures with santa, every child also got a special gift all their own.

update. on the current -- we have seen scattered rainfall return to the bay area tonight. total so far, only trace amounts of 500ths of an inch. we have a few showers over dublin. likely more coming your way through 11:29. lirmore keeping showers in the forecast through 11:59 tonight. i'll take you off to the north. we've had that wet weather in santa rosa, and more on the way as you head through the next 15 to 20 minutes. through st. helena just after midnight, we'll keep the showers in the forecast. let's take you out to the pacific. there's also another batch of wet weather that's developing in all of this scattered activity that would continue rainfall here through bodega bay by 1 1:43, and then moving again more wet weather a second round just after midnight. what does this mean here? i still think we need to prepare for possibly spotty rain once we hit 6:00 in the morning. still cloudy. you have to think about that. then as we hit 9:00 in the

morning, it's a split commute here for us. we have a chance of wet weather for the east bay, peninsula, and the south bay. you head up to the north bay, you are likely going to see the sun starting to come out by 9:00 in the morning. vastly different weather here. if you are in the south bay heading up to the north bay, you'll be starting with that rainfall, and eventually you'll get that sun in here. then as you move through the afternoon, sunshine for everyone. much better day coming our way if you want that blue sky. there's a really great chance we're going to see that return as we head through tomorrow. as you move through the forecast, take that jacket with you tomorrow. we have upper 30s in the trivalley. peninsula, 42. south bay at 43. more 40s for the east bay. san francisco and then the north bay will start off with the coldest average down to 38. as move through the day tomorrow, it's simple. we get sunshine through the afternoon, and temperatures no matter where you are headed in the car, it's going to be just about the same. you're not going to see too much fluctuations on that car thermometer. 59 here in downtown san jose. head over to the east bay, more

of these upper 50s and low 60s through contra costa alameda counties. the peninsula, 59 here along palo alto. going to san francisco. you have 59 along the embark dario as well, and right through the north bay. upper 50s and also low 60s continue. my extended forecast shows winter officially begins tomorrow. just in case you forgot, at 223, that's when earth is going to be tilted the farthest away from the sun. we get the least amount of daylight tomorrow, so something to think about. we're dry here as we head to saturday, and then the possibility of showers returning on sunday. i think most of the weekend is dry. then we'll carry over that chance of rain into monday. not a big storm right now, but that's going to be our next best chance of rain coming our way on monday. just a slight chance here for spotty showers once we hit christmas. we'll dry out wednesday and also thursday. more 50s and also 60s for the inland valleys as we head through the next seven days.

a health warning in marin county. another major outbreak of whooping cough. so far this year there have been 229 cases of the highly contagious disease. it's especially dangerous for babies and pregnant women. health leaders are urging everyone to get immuneized. signs of whooping cough include prolonged coughing fits, runny nose, and sneezing. a lawsuit wants to make sure females aren't being charged for tafrpones. the suit wants the judge to

order county jails to stop charging inmates for the fell neen hygiene products. court documents refer to a state correctional facility that says they should be given tafrpones for free, but in some county jails they cost 25 cents. we are waiting to hear back. for all you prius and tesla drivers, here's your warning. a major change beginning in a couple of weeks. january 1st those white and green hov stickers will be invalid. that's because california has simply too many people in the carpool lanes, so federal law says speeds in those lanes must be at least 45 miles per hour, but with too many cars in there, that can happen. people will have now required to have the red sticker. the dmv says that's sends e sending slugs of people to the offices of the dmv. applications for those red stickers are up 35% from last year. >> most of them just want it for the commute to get in the
