live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." ♪ a plain carrying a san francisco family crashes in the wine country. children pulled from the wreckage, and tonight we learned one of the parents did not make it out alive. good evening. thanks for joining us. larry beil in for dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. late today the sonoma county sheriff's office identified the father killed in the plane crash. he was 38-year-old william s. goldman of san francisco, known as bill. >> the crash happened outside the sonoma sky park. "abc 7 news" reporter cornell bernard live with this developing story. >> reporter: larry, ama, the wreckage of the plane still in this field behind me about 1,000 feet from the runway where it took off this afternoon. faa investigators will be back here tomorrow to find out what

caused this high tech aircraft to crash. >> we heard a plane taking off and sputter, didn't sound right. >> reporter: robert castillo was having lunch at a friend's house when he witnessed the terrible crash. a single engine plane plummeting to the ground secretaries after taking off from the sonoma sky park airport. >> really heavy fuel smell. what i was concerned with was that there was a spark, it would go up. >> reporter: worried the plane would explode, he and friends rushed to help until first responders arrived. they pulled a mother and two young children from the wreckage, a girl who was unconscious and a boy. >> with's your name, buddy. my name is george. can you get me out? yeah, hang on. i'm going to cut the seatbelt. >> reporter: their father piloting the plane did not survive. 38 year old bill goldman from san francisco was an assistant professor at usf. he was flying a sirrus sr 22, a high tech aircraft. >> what you hear first of all.

>> a big bang. >> reporter: scott peterson works near the airport. he says the plain didn't have enough altitude for the parachute to help. >> one of our guys say when the parachute came down it pointed the nose straight down. >> reporter: three family members are in the hospital. goldman told him the family was flying to san jose but kept their plane in san carlos. the ntsb will join the faa in its investigation of the crash. in sonoma county, cornell bernard, "abc 7 news." and we have more details tonight on bill goldman. he was the grandson of richard goldman, the prominent san francisco philanthropist who founded the goldman environmental prize. he was an assistant professor at the university of san francisco and flew missions for angel flight west, a charity that provides transportation to sick patients and their families. goldman was married to sarah falk goldman, an attorney. as we mention, shelves was on

fuming for hours. they were here to talk about a controversial medical marijuana dispensary called apothecarium with former mayor jean quan and her husband want to open. >> please save our children's future. >> reporter: majority of speakers don't want the dispensary in their neighborhood. they say it is bad for the children, the nearby schools and many in the elderly chinese community. >> crime is going up, traffic acident is going up, the insurance is going up, kids are -- morality is going down. >> reporter: that's far from true, say dispensary advocates who insist the underserved community in the sunset will only benefit. >> these people can be my family members, so they might forego medical cannabis all together because they don't know anything about it or they have a stigma against it. >> you walk by a dispensary, you wouldn't even know it was there. people are not doing it on the street. >> reporter: and right now as we

speak jean quan is testifying before the commission. after she wraps it up, then the commission will deliberate. either way, the decision can still be appealed to the board of commission. we will, of course, have more details on "abc 7 news" in the morning. live in san francisco, "abc 7 news," i'm lisa amin gull eeshan. >> a mother is warning drivers she thinks somebody is deliberately shooting a bb gun at random cars. the back window of julie oxley's mini van was shattered on santa teresa boulevard in gilroy and morgan hill today. her seven year old daughter grace was hit in the here. >> glass just popped and got me in the ear. >> she's bleeding and i just -- it was just really frustrating to, like, not know what to do and to feel so, like, confused and overwhelmed by what is going on. >> scary. another driver who stopped to help the family says his car was also hit with a bb pellet.

sheriff's deputies took the pellet that got lodged in grace's hair for evidence. "abc 7 news" was in monterro as divers recovered a wheel believed to be from a missing man's car. they also found a fuel tank lodge willed in the rocks. they'll return at low tooiide trying to look for the car. richard moss disappear on his way to work more than a month ago. new tonight, we're hearing from the editor of a skateboarding magazine who needed staples in his head after a street race near delores park. >> i was flying down the side and hit a reflector. >> we came up with jake selps. as you can see he is recovering in the hospital after the hard fall he took tuesday night. he wasn't the only one. a skateboarder collided with an officer and flipped over a patrol officers arrived to trea get the injured help, the crowd started throwing things at them. >> i think they overreact.

they don't really understand. skateboarders want to go downhill. the hill is smooth. >> police are investigating the police response and checking body cams. police have identified the woman accused of using a fake $100 bill at a school bake sale. they say 4 is year od michelle marie cruise was caught on camera. they held a fund raiser there monday. chp says she bought baked goods with a counterfeit bill and got $80 in change. they say she drove off in a dark colored honda with custom rims. she has a criminal history dating to 1995. she has been convict of theft, burglary and forgery. new details on the south bay package thieves caught on camera. check it out. you see a woman walk up to the porch, swipe the package and turn around. what makes the story unique is what happened after the thief and her get away driver tried to

make their escape. katie marzullo live in san jose with the story. >> reporter: larry, police tell me they put out a be on the lookout for the thieves and their vehicle. they have a great description thanks to the quick actions of heidi burrows. she was not sitting back to be victimized without a fight. a surveillance camera at her house on tulip roadshows a woman walk up to the front porch, grab a package and take it back. highlandy came driving up the street to see it herself around 5:45 wednesday. >> my first thought was honk the horn, stop, get them to stop for a second so i could get a clear photo. >> reporter: heidi got pictures of the suv and license plate, all the while screaming at the woman and the man behind the wheel. then she realized the thieves were yelling at each other. >> put it back! put it back! run it back there because she sees us and the lady in the back seat starts yelling, i'm not going to do that. you figure it out. this is your idea.

a woman has died taking part in a risky decade's-old tourist attraction in the caribbean. she was blown away -- literally -- by an airplane's jet engine in st. martin. >> police say it is the first death in this thrill-seeking past time dating to the 1940s. abc reporter marcy gonzales has the story. >> reporter: a tourist attraction for thrill seekers in the caribbean. turning deadly. a woman holding on to this famous fence near the edge of a runway in st. martin losing her grip. >> the propulsion pushed her backward and she tripped, fell and as a result of the impact she -- she was wounded fatally. >> reporter: authorities say the jet blast can reach 100 miles an

lawyer, not a government lawyer but a russian lawyer. it was a short meeting. >> the presidents say they discussed efforts to fight terrorism in the middle east. mr. trump also hinted at possibly changing his position on the paris climate deal. a bay area congress woman plans to lead a protest tomorrow against a decade's old ban against women wearing sleeveless toms or dresses on capitol hill. you are looking at a tweet from congress woman jackie speier that ends with, quote, because women have the right to bare arms. they follows women being removed for wear sleeve less outfit. republican paul ryan urged compliance with the dress code though he will look into possibly changing the dress code. if you are wondering, men must wear coats and ties. new tonight, an exciting new attraction for fans of the movie "star wars."

tomorrow afternoon. you're going to be in the upper 90s as we head towards the weekend. early next week, but the numbers will come right back up again above the average of 88 degrees. i want to show you a live picture right now from our east bay hills camera. you are watching that marine layer right over the city lights there, and it is showing up here on live doppler 7. but notice it is right near the beaches right now. so we're not expecting it to push very far, like i said. temperatures right now 60s, 70 inland. 50s near the coastline. still have enough of a breeze to keep you comfortable tonight. from our "abc 7 news" exploratorium camera, the top of the pyramid is barely visible because of the fog. watch out. foggy areas in the morning, dense in spots. a wide range of temperatures tomorrow and it is heating up inland this weekend. here is your hour-by-hour forecast. 5:00 a.m., fog near the beaches and right near parts of the bay. at 8:00 a.m. limited fog. notice it pulls away and we start seeing some high clouds drifting in. these clouds around 10:00 a.m.

are coming in from what was once a hurricane so it will add a little more humidity to the air. we head into the afternoon and the fog is gone, high clouds starting to pull away, so we will see bright skies for your friday. tomorrow morning watch out for the fog. temperatures low 50s to the mid 60s and for the afternoon we'll warm you up into the low to mid 90s inland. will be a sunny one. breezy near the coast. temperatures in the 60s to end the workweek. now, i do want to show you what the game forecast is for the a's against the indians at the coliseum tomorrow evening. the sun sets at 8:29 and the temperature will be quite mild before the sun goes down, 64 degrees. once the set sets temperature will fall, 59 degrees. if you are going pack a light layer. as we check out the three-day forecast, this is what i want to alert you to. tomorrow a little humid. it is saturday and sunday where you see those triple digits inland to mid 60s coast side, but the inland heat is a concern. so a heat advisory has been issued for the east bay hills, the santa cruz mountains,
