slightest variation from perfect form... can mean the difference between placing first... and last. the most common mistake.. is not being far enough forward. it's a problem a local inventor is trying to fix. kolo 8 news now's colin lygren tested the invention today. he joins us live in studio with how it works. colin? sarah and noah... the system is called forward ski. it was invented by a ski instructor up at sky tavern... who wanted to make a difference for the next generation of racers. "i would like to be somebody that came along and made a big difference in skiing." ski racing instructor chris bender was inspired several years ago... to invent a way to improve his racers form. "it was me watching a kid do the turns correctly for two or three gates in a race course, and then practice the wrong thing for 20 more gates." traditionally... racers watch film... or are told at the end of a race

bender wanted them to get instant feedback... so run is not wasted. "if you get instant feedback and know you are doing something wrong, you are going to correct it. and that is what do." after seven years of work... forward ski was born. it's a pressure sensor placed in the front of the boot that ensures racers are leaning forward. if they lean back? nats - beep a sound in their ear instantly tells them... they're out of balance. "you put the system on them and virtually in one ski run, they get it. because everything else is where it is supposed to be." nats - colin boots. i'm no ski racer... but i tested the system and learned quickly... what i was doing wrong... and how to fix it. "what forward ski does is it helps you maintain that mechanic of coming around the corner and being in the correct line." forward ski has already been adopted by several tahoe area ski teams. but the product right now... still in its infancy. bender hopes to grow it into something that can help skiers for years to come. "there is about 30 things you need to do right to make a racing turn and ten of them a

ten will cost you time.." forward ski is both designed and manufactured right here in reno. many of the parts... are even sourced locally. live in studio... colin lygren... kolo 8 news now. the california medical association is supporting a ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana. he initiative is backed by billionaire technology investor sean parker. the association is interested in the expansion of marijuana research. they believe controlling legal marijuana could protect public health. supporters of the bill have until july 5 to collect 336 thousand signatures to qualify ballot. the amount you can drink and still get soon be going down. the national board is asking states to lower the legal blood alcohol limit, from point-zero-eight percent, to point-zero- in the last 15-years, one-third of highway deaths involved they hope this will be a

crashes. ### you may be surprised to hear this but 2015 was considered one of the most productive years in congress in recent history. we had a major budget deal in october... the omnibus bill... and the highway bill just to name a few. but as kolo 8 news now washington correspondent alex miller found out. we shouldn't expect the same for 2016. in case you haven't heard. it's an election year. not just for president --- but for congress. members of the house and a third of the senate are up for reelection. so -- don't expect to see them heading to work much in 2016. take a look at the house calendar for the second half of the yearfor example. what you see in blue is when they'll be working. that's more than seven weeks off between july and september and six weeks off in the fall. "if they're not in washington it really eliminates the work they can do." many of senators up for reelection are republicans--- and they're staring down tough opponents.

even be brought to the floor --- purely for political reasons. "mitch mcconnell as senate majority leader really needs to be careful about what he has his chamber doing this year in order to not put these very vulnerable senate incumbents in these tough spots where they have to cast difficult votes that could be used against them in the fall." while these members campaign for themselvesthey'll also be stumping for the candidates. even last night at the iowa caucuses --candidates themselves and their supporters were missing from the capitol. "its in the interest of congressional democrats to get a democrat in the white house, its in the interest of congressional republicans to get a republican in the white house." many members believe they're making these sacrifices in 2016 so come 2017 their party will control the white house and the capitol. reporting in washington --- i'm alex miller. california attorney general kamala harris has filed suit over an ongoing gas leak in
