following tuesday night. between now and then, things will only get busier for campaign operations in our area. the campaigns are looking for supporters--- on the phone and door-to- door. the conversations help identify or recruit those willing to show up for the caucus. it's a labor intensive effort. and, while most campaigns have paid staff, they rely heavily on volunteers. johnson: "we have some senior citizens that go out and they knock on doors for us. we have some people who've just come home from deployment and they want to knock on doors for us." newman: "our volunteers are more like believers in dr. carson than just somebody that believes in a candidate and goes out and supports them. these people are willing to do whatever is necessary." we've posted information about the caucuses in nevada at kolo-tv-dot-com... just click on hot topics. you can also find the info-- on our kolo 8 app. ### political parties got a batch of new registered voters. from december to
republicans and democrats added about 7-thousand new voters. according to the nevada secretary of state's office, there were more than 471- thousand active democratic voters in the state-- in january. on the flip side, republicans have more than 423 registered voters. there are more than 234-thousand registered non-partisans. ### so what does this mean? 39 percent of the state's active voter base is democrat. 35 percent are republicans and 19 percent are non- partisans. ### lets turn our attention to the weather-- and anotehr batch of clouds coming our way. jeff thompson joins us from the weather center. jeff-- more good news for our drought. another system will bring clouds and snow showers on wednesday afternoon, mainly in the sierra and north of i-80 across northern nevada. accumulations will be modest where showers occur, but slippery conditions are possible wednesday night and thursday morning. skies will clear on thursday, as a ridge of high pressure builds over the west coast. sunny skies and milder temperatures are in forecast for friday through the weekend. -

here where we live. and that's why a new organization is stepping up to offer help. the state of nevada is partnering with the children's cabinet-- to program. kolo 8 news now's catherine van joins in the studio-- with the resources enliven, has to offer. the only programs available in northern nevada that helps young adults detect and treat mental disorders. it's a place where they can feel safe and its all for free. today... enliven opened there's a stigma that mental health is untreatable and it's usually uncomfortable to talk about. kathleen: mental health is just like any other type of disease. enliven is a program that offers a safe place for people ages 15 to 25 who may feel too ashamed to admit they may be suffering from mental health issues. kathleen: it's a huge need. there are very few outpatient programs that people have that has intensive services. the children's cabinet
offer services that link patients and their families with ocial workers, psychologists and psychiatrists all for free. tracey: this is a very important condition and so there's some designated dollars for conditions like this. don't worry about the dollars, just get here and we'll figure out what resources we can get to you. according to dr. tracey green from the nevada department of health... 18,000 people between the ages of 18 and 25 experience serious mental illness. this program is designed to get people detected early and treated. tracey: early treatment leads to better outcomes, medication works better and what we don't want to happen is to be truant from schools or use substances to mask their symptoms. enliven is based on a national model and experts work closely with the washoe county school district to further their mission. kathleen: we do a lot of programming within the schools. we do a lot of suicide screenings in schools and middles schools with them. enliven is located the northern nevada health services on galetti way in building 2-a.
noah? carson city sheriff's deputies arrested a driver, who they say hit a man, and left him on the side of the road. 37-year-old juan pablo rios was booked into the carson city jail around 4 oc'lock this evening. he's charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash involving injury or death, which is a felony. detectives say rios hit gustova garcia-valdes at the intersection of highway 50 east and brown street last wednesday. rios later told a friend, which led to his arrest. garcia valdes died at renown medical center last friday. rios' bail is set at 50- thousand dollars. ### the washoe county sheriff's office is on high alert, because a new scam in our area has people posing as deputies. investigators say scammers are using the names of people who work at the sheriff's department. they're also manipulating the phones-- so the caller i-d, shows a sheriff's
here's how the scam works-- the caller will tell the potential victim, there's a warrant out for his or her arrest. the scammer offers two options. one .. be arrested. or two... pay a "reduced" fine. you'll be asked to pay-- by using an "e-gift" card, or something similar. local law enforcement will never ask for payment over the phone, for warrants and fines. if you receive one of these calls-- try and write down the name, and call-back number. then call the sheriff's office, at 328-3001. ### a part of virginia street, is re-opening tomorrow. it was closed for the virginia street bridge project. west first street, from sierra street, to virginia street, is opening to traffic. but the bridge isn't completely finished-- so the city of reno is encouraging you to follow the detours. businesses in the area, are open during construction. ### the next time you go to the las vegas strip, you might have to pay to park. m-g-m resorts international announced today it'll
