campaigns doing to make sure their supporters show up? thanks for joining us on good morning reno. i'm amanda sanchez and i'm dave lawrence. let's go to lindsey matherly with a look at the forecast. an incoming low pressure system will provide chances for light snowfall across the northern sierra and northwest nevada by late afternoon. a few inches of snowfall is possible with the best potential mainly north of interstate 80. high pressure will then build for the remainder of the week with drier conditions and milder temperatures for the weekend and early next week. &&.short term... increasing clouds are filtering their way across northern california this morning ahead of a quick moving shortwave trough. this trough will provide some potential for snow showers and a few

especially from the northern sierra into lassen county. across western nevada, northern portions of washoe and pershing counties north of interstate 80 police believe alcohol may be to blame for a rollover crash last night that sent a woman to the hospital. it happened on kietzke near victorian just after 10. police say the woman hit a concrete overpass before flipping her s-u- v. she was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. carson city sheriff's deputies have made an arrest in a deadly hit and run. 37-year-old juan pablo rios is charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash involving injury or death, which is a felony. detectives say rios hit gustova garcia-valdes at the intersection of highway 50 and brown street last wednesday. rios told a friend what happened, which police say led to his arrest. garcia valdes died at renown last friday. rios' bail is set at 50- thousand dollars. ### a warning this morning

you answer your phone. the washoe county sheriff's office says scammers are posing as sheriff's deputies to try and get your money. they're even using the names of people who actually work at the sheriff's department. here's how it works. the caller says there's a warrant out for your arrest. they say you can either surrender and agree to be arrested, or pay a "reduced" fine. you'll be asked to pay-- by using an "e-gift" card, or something similar. it's important to remember-- local law enforcement will never ask for payment over the phone, for warrants or fines. if you receive one of these calls-- write down the caller's name and phone number, then call the sheriff's office at 328-3001. ### a bizarre story out of elko. a man has been arrested for the unlawful killing of an eagle and illegally possessing raptor parts. as kolo 8 news now's terri russell explains, they were discovered after a traffic stop. and we do want to warn you, these images may be disturbing for some people.

department of wildlife showing eagle and hawk feathers allegedly found in 30-year-old dana morley mcivor's possession. in all, authorities say there were two recently-killed eagles, and a hawk, two wings from two recently-killed hawks, along with 124 separate eagle and hawk feathers . authorities estimate the feathers came from at least two or three additional raptors including an eagle. chris healy/nevada department of wildlife: you can certainly drop the hammer once the crime is found out. and this is he beginning of that for the gentleman in elko county who was caught with these raptor feathers. according to n-dow, mcivor told them he was keeping the parts for religious celebrations. while that is legal, mcivor or any other native american who uses raptor parts or feathers for ceremonies must have a permit from the u-s fish and wildlife. law enforcement said he did not. the program called, the

set up in the early 19-70s, and collects, inventories and distributes raptor feathers to native americans who apply and gain access to the program. mcivor faces seven counts on state charges, all of them misdemenors. other states may become involved depending upon where the birds came from. and if federal agencies take the case there could be felony charges for mcivor. n- dow says raptor parts and feathers can make their way to the black market. in this case the estimated worth is ten thousand dollars. in reno, terri russell kolo 8 news now. in about 5 months.. the city of reno is set to open the new virginia street bridge. this is a look at their construction camera. but today travel around the construction site gets a little easier. kolo 8 news now's rebecca kitchen is live to explain. dave and amanda... it's a small opening but anytime you can make things easier around a construction zone in downtown...it's a good

...if you've been driving down sierra and needed to turn left.. you couldn't here at west first street... you've had to take a detour which around here... can be kid of a pain... but starting at 10 this morning... this small portion of west first street will be open.. people will be able to turn left again and i'm sure businesses in the area will also appreciate the ease there is a lot of gratitude here for the construction and people as well as a lot of the business owners because we were out of the river and didn't have any obstructions in the river to create problems for flooding. construction activities continue across the entire virginia street bridge project site. crews have recently completed the south bridge approach slab and will soon be beginning on the north side. crews have also been working on the concrete pylons as well as other decorative features at each end of the

have a nod to tthe pylons on eithe now to the presidential campaign trail. with the iowa caucuses now behind them, the candidates ar inhampshire for the victors in short-lived. just a week before the next round of voting-both hillary clinton and bernie sanders arhoping the iowa results will give them a boost. the political revolucontinues here next tuesday in new hampshire. make no mistake! we are in a fight to the finish! on the republican side... donald trump says he is more confident about his chances to win in new hampshire... but defends his finish in iowa. i came in second. i'm not humiliated! for first-place finisher ted cruz, a sweet victory in a bitter contest. "i can tell you six weeks ago, donald trump was saying every day that i was his friend that he loved me, that i was terrific, that i was nice. // and now i'm an anchor baby. " donald trump now admits skipping that last republican debate just before the iowa caucuses may have hurt him. we expect him at the next republican debate-- on abc news-- this weekend. nevada democrats will meet february 20th. republicans--february 23rd. so how do the campaigns in our area prepare? it involves phone calls and door-to-door meet and greets to help recruit voters for the caucus. and, while most campaigns have paid staff, they rely heavily on volunteers. johnson: "we have some senior citizens that go out and they knock on doors for us. we have some people who've just come home from deployment and they want to knock on doors for us." we've posted information about the nevada caucus at kolo- tv-dot-com. just click on hot topics. you can also find information on our kolo 8 app. ### and more voters are now registered in the silver state. from december to january, both republicans and

7-thousand new voters. according to the nevada secretary of state's office, there were more than 471- thousand active democratic voters in the state in january, more than 423 registered republicans, and more than 234- thousand registered non-partisans. so about 39 percent of the state's active voter base is democrat. 35 percent are republicans... and 19 percent are non-partisan. fears of the zika virus continue to grow... now the worry about the disease spreading not just by mostquitoes. and a strange variety of weather all over the country... from summer-like storms... to tornadoes... to blizzards. coming up, lindsey matherly will have your complete forecast. that's next on kolo 8 news now. north of interstate 80 have the potential to see an inch or two of snowfall by this evening. could see snow do you own a toyota truck or s-u-v? listen up. the company is recalling more than 300-thousand trucks and s-u-v's over concerns that the roof-mounted air bags can inflate without a crash. the recall affects 2005 and 2006 toyota tundras and sequoias, the 2003 through 2006 land cruiser, and the 2004 through 2006 4-runner. also included are the 2003 through 2006 lexus l-x 4-70 and the 2004 through 2006 g-x 470. toyota says the problem stems from improper programming in the air bag's computer. dealers will replace the computer for free. royal appliance is recalling this vacuum
