vehicles can even be prohibited. as of today there are 35 signs beginning near southmeadows parkway... coming down the mount rose highway alerting drivers to the wind warning. this gives truckers and others plenty of time to locate another route, or even turn around. meg ragonese/nevada department of transportation: this new system provides both enhanced visibility and mobility for vehicles nine feet or taller. what it does with 34 new signs, it is obvisously a lot more visible, if there is a wind closure through the valley. ragonese says sensors located throghout washoe valley calibrate wind speed and automatically trip the lighted sign system. the lighted system was tested today over a two hour period and passed with flying colors. high winds and high temperatures today in the truckee-meadows... but another storm is heading our way... bringing more winter- like weather.

weather returning through early next week. -jeff reno police say he was pulled over for driving a stolen vehicle... and arrested for murder. sparks officers pulled over 32-year-old michael robbins sunday night, for driving a stolen vehicle. during the investigation, sparks police learned that robbins had possibly stabbed a man in a reno apartment. police followed up, and found a man dead in an apartment on malone avenue. reno police say robbins admitted to the murder. he is being charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. gordon mellinger is facing charges of child neglect and firng a gun inside a home. it was just before three this morning when

report of shots fired inside a home. two women and two teenage girls were inside the home at the time. police convinced one of the women over the phone to get to the back yard... where they were able to get her to safety. she told officers mellinger fired two shots inside the home. mellinger eventually came out of the house and was arrested. nobody was hurt in the incident. police say mellinger has a history of mental illness. we're four days away from the south carolina republican primary. the rhetoric among all of the candidates on the campaign trail is heating up. scott mclean takes a look at the latest on the campaign trail. south carolina is known for its gritty politics, and the 2016 republican primary is no exception. sen. marco rubio, r- presidential candidate: ...just makes things up. donald trump, r-presidential candidate: i have never, ever met a person that lies more than ted cruz. sen. ted cruz, r-presidential candidate: they simply start screaming, liar, liar, liar. all of the republican candidates are all ramping up their war of

over cruz's canadian birth and his eligibility to be predent. donald trump, r-presidential candidate: i already have a lawyer, we're looking at it very seriously, we're thinking about it. the cruz camp countering, rick tyler: to be fair to donald, he doesn't actually know what he believes. also on the campaign trail, jeb bush is using his famous brother to continue the bush winning streak in south carolina. former president george w. bush: strength is not empty rhetoric, it is not bluster, it is not theatrics. real strength, strength of purpose comes from integrity and character. but all the bluster may not matter come saturday. a cnn-orc poll released tuesday, has donald trump well ahead in south carolina at 38-percent. up 16 points on ted cruz, with marco rubio and jeb bush trailing well behind in third and south carolina is critical for republicans. with only one exception, every since 1980 has gone on nominee.

we are just a few days away from the caucuses here in nevada. that will bring several of the presidential candidates to the silver state. republican jeb bush is headed to nevada the day after the south carolina primary. the former florida governor will be in las vegas sunday, before heading to reno monday. bush is holding a town hall event at huffaker elementary school at six o'clock monday evening. and ted cruz is planning a jam packed visit to nevada. the republican presidential candidate is planning at least eight campaign events starting sunday afternoon in pahrump. the texas senator will then be in las vegas monday before heading north to elko that evening. planned in fernley, minden and carson city on tuesday... before heading back down to las vegas for an evening rally. this saturday, the democrats will caucus... republicans on tuesday. complete coverage here on kolo 8 news

"we gonna be alright!" if anyone nodded off during the three-and-a- half hour grammy telecast, kendrick lamar surely woke them up. the "to pimp a butterfly" rapper gave an arresting performance, and walked away with five grammys -- tops for the night. "what's your name, man?" "alexander hamilton!" before lamar hit the stage, the grammy- winning cast of "hamilton" got the l-a crowd ready to rap and roll -- long-distance from broadway. "the thrill is gone..." some of the most memorable performances were tributes to fallen stars: an all-star guitar jam for b-b king... toward helping impoverished children living on the streets of rwanda. one of the artists is the founder of a cultural center in rwanda that teaches different forms of art to kids. "you buy art, you are supporting children in rwanda. you buy art, you are doing a lot, because only $130 can pay the school fees of one child for the whole year" a special reception for the exhibit will be held thursday night at seven. there will be live music and performances. members of team nevada and the nevada donor network got together at the d-m-v today to celebrate the countdown to the 2016 donate life transplant games. the transplant games of america is a multi- sport festival event that celebrates organ, cornea and tissue donation. thousands of transplant recipients, living donors and donor family members from across the country

news-talk 780,more now on the messy storms dropping a dangerous mix of snow, ice and rain... leaving 15 states on alert from north carolina all the way up to maine. the latest now from elizabeth hur in new york. this morning.. the national weather service will be on the ground.. looking into 17 reported tornadoes from florida to louisiana.. that left homes and businesses damaged and destroyed.. roofs ripped off buildings and.. debris strewn across streets and nearby water! further north.. the mix of snow and ice meant a busy morning for emergency crews.. responding to over 2000 wrecks in 24 hours across 17 states.. more than 500 accidents in virginia alone.. and it wasn't just cars..

take a look at these pedestrians in north carolina.. just trying to make it down the street without slipping. "you couldn't step at all. i stepped out and actually just slid all the way to the curb." the slick conditions also leaving those flying.. miserable. hundreds of flights have already been canceled today.. with the storm battering the east coast.. in philadelphia.. some 200 travelers spent more than 3 hours on a plane.. without heat or air conditioning because their flight to florida was delayed because of weather...then maintenance issues.. in north carolina.. some passengers.. still stranded.. are taking it all in stride. tom schneider, illinois: two cancelled flights and now a third cancelled flight out of charlotte to laguardia. you got to live with it. people living with parkinson's fine tune their motor skills... and it's working. "there's things i couldn't do i didn't realize i couldn't do them and i'm doing them now. movements, leg movements, balance, coordination" nina vogel is the physical therapist who brought the program to carson city. she says she sees things like posture, coordination, and balance improve almost right away. and being in a group setting targets all the non-motor symptoms of parkinson's... such as depression, apathy, and sleep problems. right now rock steady boxing is only in carson city. the plan is to send people to be trained in indianapolis where the program was created. the next step is to start a program in reno. to help with the fundraising efforts head to kolo-tv-dot- com. a new study suggests eating fish more than three times a week during pregnancy could be associated with an increased risk of childhood obesity. the study was conducted by the

greece. the authors analyzed data from over 26- thousand pregnant women and their children spanning 11 countries. researchers followed up with the children every two years... from birth until age six. the study found that pregnant women who ate fish more than three times a week gave birth to children with higher b-m-i values... compared with women who ate fish less. the study says the magnitude of the effect of fish intake was greater in girls than boys. the food and drug administration and the environmental protection agency recommend that pregnant women should eat fish, but no more than two to three servings per week. an important recall alert for parents... involving thousands of high chairs. 56-hundred "nuna baby essentials" high chairs are being recalled because the arm-bar can detach causing your child to fall. they were sold at several retailers between 2013 and 2015. if you have one of these high chairs stop using it
