both here in nevada... and in south carolina the frontrunners lived up the to their titles at the ballot box today. voters gave hillary clinton a big win in the silver state. she needed to beat bernie sanders convincingly after her lopsided loss in new hampshire. and in the first southern primary, donald trump easily won south carolina -- his second straight victory -- leaving marco rubio and ted cruz to fight it out for runner-up. and the palmetto state claimed a political casualty. abc's megan hughes reports from columbia, south carolina. hillary clinton and donald trump--now each boast two wins in the race for the white house? clinton sounding confident-and taking swings--
plan for the big banks. the middle class needs a raise! and we need more jobs! south carolina voters cementing--donald trump as the outsider- now firmly on the "inside" track. sot trump: "there's nothing easy about running for president. i can tell you. it's tough, it's nasty, it's mean, it's vicious. it's beautiful. when you win it's beautiful." long lines to vote in both states reflecting a heavy turnout? ted cruz and marco rubio-both with strong performances. after another poor showing, an emotional jeb bush called it quits. . sot jeb bush: "tonight, i am suspending my campaign, yeah, yeah. " in nevada--bernie sanders emphasizing that he narrowed a big gap with clinton. sot sanders you know, five weeks ago we were 25 points behind in the polls. megan hughes on camera: and sanders is also behind here in south carolina?democrats will vote here next
megan hughes, abc news, columbia, south sanders may have lost nevada.... but at u-n-r... and across much of northern nevada ... he seemed to be the clear winner. at the ansari business building.... a few scattered clinton supporters could be found... but overwhelming support went to the vermont senator. many people said they because they have similar views on social policies. "pretty much all of them but i think the most progressive thing, what really seperates him from hillary- he has a lot of really great stances on racial justice which i think are really valuable, i support the free education. i think higher education is very valuable for our country. the more people we have that have a higher education is going to do nothing but benefit us. " precinct 50-27... was made up almost entirely of students. in the end only 19 of the more than 200 people in the room supported clinton....
today's democratic caucus could be the turning point presidential candidate hillary clinton needed. kolo 8 new now's catherine van takes a look at how this caucus is setting the way for a national trend in this year's election. nats: thank you nevada! thank you so much! hillary clinton shows that the most valuable lesson is learned from experience. fred: she's basically playing from the obama playbook in 2008 that had defeated her so she's learned her lessons in that process. fred lokken, a political science professor at tmcc says after winning a tight race against bernie sanders... this is a major game changer for the the clinton fred: if this turns out to be a firewall and she's able to move forward and establish momentum, nevada will be recognized as the state that really defined that candidacy and put it on track. voter turnout was low... the 80 thousand democrats who did show up today... fell short of
the key groups--the youth and latinos... many of them caucusing for the first time. fred: we had 60 percent today for the democratic caucus had never participated in the caucus before. that number may be very real for the republicans as well. a flaw... lokken says that roots deep in the democratic process. fred: the caucus process did no work as well. it discourages participation and excitement both for democrats and i will project for republicans. the nevada caucus showed wins for sanders in the latino vote and the campaign's lightning speed momentum. it proves that even if he can't win the nomination from clinton... people are hearing his message and want change. fred: it's the idea you might not be winning all the delagates that you need, but you're winning more than anyone else. that's what matters. that's what creates the aura of momentum, that's what builds confidence in the candidate and the agenda in the campaign. as for tuesday's republican caucus... lokken projects a win for donald trump. in reno cvk8nn.
one clinton supporter isn't yet old enough to vote - but he'll be of age by election day. kolo 8 news now terri russell follows him as he dives into his first election season. "allison, a-ll..." 17 year old jesse allison signed in before noon today at his precinct at grace warner elementary school in northwest reno. clerk: 98 i graduated high school in that year, this is awesome. easily one of the youngest in the crowd he sat next to fellow hillary supporters in the cafeteria. woman: i'm interested in south carolina jesse: oh yea. while jesse talked politics, others wait patiently, even reading the paper about their task at hand. at noon, computers down, doors closed, and the caucuses after introductions, and a a head count was taken

showed up. in washoe county, long lines delayed the start of the caucus at many locations. caucus sites were still trying to register would-be voters long past the scheduled noon starting time. at first, democratic party officials said the caucus would begin while people waited in line. a few minutes later, officials began to rush everyone inside-- saying they would register voters during the actual caucus. the overcrowding even pushed some precincts outside. ## now that the south carolina primary has wrapped up... the g-o-p candidates are turning their focus to nevada. right now, all the remaining candidates, except john kasich, are heading west. ben carson will be in reno tomorrow. he is expected to speak at a "we the people" town hall at atlantis casino resort at 3:00 pm after that he will head to skyline church for an event at 6:00pm monday - the republican

possibly a road rage incident. that's when one of the drivers stopped - got out of his car and started chasing the other car on foot. police say a third - unrelated vehicle hit the driver - as they were running in a travel lane. the driver of the car in the initial confrontation - left the area before police arrived. the driver who was hit is being treated for serious injuries. the major accident investigation team is looking into the accident - they say the driver of the third vehicle is being cooperative. neither drugs or alcohol are suspected to be a factor. police have a suspect in custody following a manhunt in michigan for a man who police say drove around and shooting people at random. officials in kalamazoo county say he killed six people. three others have been wounded, with two of them in critical condition. an under-sheriff says a man in his 50's started firing at people saturday night.
