"we love nevada. we love nevada. thank you!" the nevada republican caucus results are in. tonight on kolo 8 news now-- a big win for one candidate. we're breaking down his margin of victory. and, we're taking you to caucus locations in reno, sparks and virginia city--- to show you the turnout tonight. plus-- new reaction tonight, from hillary clinton-- about the president's push to close guantanamo bay. tonight. i'm noah bond. the nevada republican caucus results are in--- trump wins. of precincts reporting, percent. second, with 23 point 5 percent. 20 point 3 percent. and coming in fourth is ben carson with 5 point 6 percent. moments ago trump celebrated his victory. donald trump, r-nv gop caucus winner: "you know, we

expected to win this one. of course, if you listen to the pundits, we weren't expected to win too much and now we're winning, winning, winning the country. and soon, the country is going to start winning, winning, winning..." the final vote tally may not be known for some time... and there were a few hiccups in today's g-o-p caucus -- at least at the larger caucus locations. we have team coverage of nevada's g-o-p decision tonight -- with a look at how the process went in both the large caucus sites in washoe county -- and in the smaller rural sites. kolo 8 news now's catherine van joins us live in the studio. cat, there were a few surprises at reed high school in sparks. this is the largest caucus location in washoe county. the site coordinators were only prepared for about 600... but i'm told more than two thousand showed up. people started lining up hours before doors even opened... laura: i stood in line at the rally for three hours so i wanted to

one man who braved the crowds was senator ted cruz. he stopped by to shake hands to try and win more votes... but many say they came, with their minds already made up. diana: on my facebook i posted, 'hanging out with cruz on my way to vote for rubio.' once they were in... it was easy. nats: straight down the hall and make the first right and right. but that was the hump, many people couldn't seem to get over. karen: i've been inline since 5:30. we were wrapped around and once the sun set... so did the cold....which means bad news for those who have been waiting outside for tom: we had no idea we had the volume became too much for the six volunteers at reed high school to handle. soon they were running out of ballots... and tom: to streamline the checkin process is always the challenge

concert or anything else. more ballots had to be printed ... and lines were moved inside. anyone in the door by 8- 30, was allowed to vote. peter: it was a little overwheming standing in line with all those people, but it was pretty exciting. once they got through check-in... many cast their ballots and left... so no rooms were overcrowded. diana: that took 2 minutes, just the standing in line took forever. one way the organizers overcame the problems were getting more volunteers. once they showed up... the lines dwindled. there were just a handful of people in line by the 8-30 deadline. in the studio catherine van...k8nn. kolo 8 news now's ed pearce expected a different scene, outside the state's urban areas. city, he found it. the process was the same, the vibe very different. two precincts of republicans gathered at virginia city's high school where the lines were short. the shrimp and cold cuts neighborly. no one was in a hurry. if you wanted to cast a vote and leave, you could and some did, but a surprising number stayed

the caucus, a sometimes confusing and frustrating process handled without a glitch, simply, even quietly in small town nevada. in virginia city, ed pearce kolo 8 news now ed reports the other virginia city precinct-- went strongly for donald trump, 22 votes to five for carson, cruz four, rubio two and kasich one. #### our 21-year-old undecided republican cast his first ballot at a caucus in north valleys high school. matt weber was a voluteer as well. kolo 8 news now terri russell was there to follow him through the process. terri, ?did he make a decision tonight? he did make a decision tonight. but not before helping others get to their correct location, precinct, or even determine if they were registered republicans. matt: i don't even have a registered address. before heading to his precinct in

high school. matt weber vounteers to help the dozens and dozens of people who need to know where there precinct is, what room they meet, and for some, if they are a registered republican. matt: correct no problem, i will be right with you. matt: may i have your attention please? precnct meetings will commence in 10 minutes. as a software engineer, matt has the expertise many other volunteers here don't. the line to get in to register began at 5:00 and stretched outside around the front as the early evening wore on. matt: the cut off to register was the 13th. but by 6:45 the line was at the door. matt was still helping out....his precinct would have to wait. matt: my lap top is about to die. once inside room one- 10---some had already cast their ballots and left., others

favorite candidate and why. man: because he seems very honest and he sticks to what he says. woman: he is a very christian believer which is a big part of may beliefs. as one of three undecided voters in the room, this is exactly how the process is supposed to work. the group talked for 20 minutes, and were courteous to each other and the various points of view. precinct chair: did tht help you guys at all? woman: yep, i just voted husband: i' shocked matt: i voted for cruz matt says he's happy with his decision. but he says he could change his mind by november. terri russell kolo 8 news now. don't forget to tune in to good morning reno tomorrow morning, starting at 4-30. we'll have the latest

caucus, plus reactions from viewers like you. we have some breaking news. a portion of sparks boulevard, at i-80 is closed right now, because of a crash. two cars were involved. at least one person was taken to the hospital sparks police are urging you to avoid the area if you can. we have a crew-- heading to the scene, and we'll have the latest information for you-- right here, on kolo 8 news now, and kolo- tv-dot-com. ### president obama made a promise to close guantanamo bay during his first day in office. now, more than 7- years-later... the president sent congress his plan, to close the prison. speaking at the white house this morning, the president outlined his plan to close the detention facility in cuba. he wants to transfer more detainees to foreign countries, and work with congress to find a spot in the u-s, to hold other detainees. president obama said his goal to close the prison, "is about closing a chapter" in the country's history. "keeping this facility open is contrary to our values. it undermines our standing in the world. it is viewed as a stain on our broader record of upholding the highest standards of rule of

senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, and many other top republicans, want guantanamo bay to stay open. but despite g-o-p opposition, committee chairs in the house and senate, say they'll hold hearings on the president's plan. ### while the republican presidential candidates were busy caucusing here in nevada-- the democratic candidates, went head to head in a town hall. guantanamo bay was a big topic for the night. hillary clinton says there is no reason, for guantanamo to continue. " i hope some of the republicans will understand that we're in a fight against terrorism. we have to defeat it. we don't need to have guantanamo hanging out there over our heads." meanwhile, bernie sanders accused donald trump-- and others, of forming a "racist effort" to de-legitimize president obama. ### "my dad, as i mentioned, came from poland. i'm running for president. guess what? nobody

new health alert, over more cases of the zika virus. the c-d-c is investigating at least 14 zika virus cases. all of those cases, were sexually transmitted. and, several of the cases involved pregnant women. the c-d-c adds-- the new reports suggest sexual relations, may likely be a way zika spreads. however, the most common way to be infected with zika, is through a mosquito bite. zika has been confirmed in 23 u-s states, and the district of columbia. and, the world health organization says up to 4-million people, will be infected in the next year. ### a contradiction: the breast cancer rate in the u-s has not increased.

women are opting to have their breasts, surgically removed. doctor timothy medical minute. terrifying diagnosis...and decades ago, removing the entire breast was the only answer? but then surgeons began to preserve normal breast areas by doing lumpectomies instead? finding from agency for healthcare research and quality, changing again. total mastectomies, complete removal of the breast - third between 2005 and 2013. part of the reason for the increase was a doubling in the number of women opting for double mastectomies; having both breasts removed even if cancer actress angelina jolie made headlines when breasts removed,

genetic mutation, which raises cancer risk. doctors suggest that some high-risk women prefer having the double surgery to the anxiety of having frequent mammograms and biopsies. survival rates are no different for women who have a mastectomy versus women who have a smaller lumpectomy. but double mastectomies do, of course, reduce the chance of developing cancer in the other breast. obviously each woman about what is best for with this medical minute, i'm dr timothy johnson. the nevada department of transportation, is making progress on removing a large boulder, on u-s 50 in the glenbrook area of lake tahoe. here's video of crews with a hydraulic hammer, breaking the boulder into pieces. the boulder is estimated to be 8-feet tall, and weigh about 60-thousand pounds. n-dot says this is expected to be removed-- by tonight.
