protecting her kids from gunfire. tonight, a big break in the case. >> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> this bay area mother of three was murdered while protecting her kids from gunfire. tonight, a big break in the case. >> christin ayers on the arrest and the reaction from friends, to the victim's family. christin? >> reporter: yeah, tonight, one man has been arrested and is charged with murder. but there were other shooters. that is what oakland police are telling us. there were about 100 bullet casings left at the scene. police say there is much more to do. >> god, father, we thank you someone has been arrested. >> reporter: a prayer of thanks tonight at the memorial for

chyemil pierce, the mother of three caught in the cross fire and killed when a gun battle broke out in west oakland monday. they arrested this man, 19-year- old anthony sims who was himself wounded in the shooting and arrested at the hospital. >> mr. sims was not only present on the day of the murder, but he had an active role in a mutual gun battle. >> reporter: police say it started monday night with a fistfight between a group of young women. feeling disrespected and wanting to defend, sims and others stepped in and opened fire. this was not a case of retaliation. they believe there was a gunning january 20th. >> they need to put the guns down. >> reporter: this man grew up with chyemil and says tonight his thoughts are with her young children. >> i hope their tears dry up. >> hopefully, this will bring them a little bit of relief. but at the end of the day, there are three children asking

details in the arrest of bruce miller. >> her boyfriend attacked herrings took her keys. she says, never mind and hung up. >> reporter: police arrested miller a week ago for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. according to a summary of the police report provided by investigators, the couple had gotten into a verbal argument and the suspect pushed the victim causing her to fall to the ground. miller destroyed her cell phone. disturbing allegations even to a casual niner fan like mitchell. >> the nfl as an organization should stand up against abuse and domestic violence. >> reporter: 49ers gm told the san francisco chronicle we understand the gravity of where we are in. it has been well documented. this presents another black eye for an organization whose off the field problems have at times overshadowed their performance. >> they should be held to a higher standard because of

that. because they are in the nfl. everyone looks up to them. so tolerating it would just, it is not okay. >> reporter: miller's future with the team remains unclear. as troubling as the allegations appear, they caution against a rush to judgment. neither that police report nor the police radio traffic gives any indication of what this argument and fight was about. the case has been turned over to the district attorney's office who will ultimately decide what charges, if any, will be filed against miller. in santa clara, devin fehely, kpix5. >> pretty wild story out of santa rosa where a man says he was abducted at gunpoint in front of his wife and two kids. from outside his home on guerneville road tuesday night. he was forced into a pickup truck, taken to modesto and put in another vehicle. he was able to get free and he ran away. two suspects are under arrest. tonight, police believe this is all tied to an illegal pot ring. take a good look at this

guy. this is a sketch of the man san francisco police say tried to lure a 10-year-old into his car. it happened last friday as the child was waiting at amy yee a muni stop. >> i think our neighbors will be shocked when they come back from vacation and hear about this. >> reporter: the 10-year-old got away and ran to a nearby restaurant. police say the suspect was driving a shiny black toyota yaris or honda fit. a peace vigil outside police headquarters in ferguson, missouri. 50 people showed up, sang songs, and prayed where two police officers were shot. unlike last night, this gathering was peaceful. dean reynolds on the search for the shooter. >> reporter: the technical police converged on a house near the ferguson police headquarters today while

detectives fanned out across adjacent treats in an urgent search for evidence that could lead them to a shooter still at large. >> we will try to do as much as we can. >> reporter: the dragnet started about midnight right after a small demonstration was interrupted by the crackle of gunfire. justice department report that criticized the city for racial bias. >> i don't know what your protesting because people are stepping down. and we are trying to move forward as a city and do what is right and find out what is really wrong. and it seems like people want to block that. >> reporter: dean reynolds, cbs news, ferguson. >> both the officers shot last night have been released from the hospital. new details tonight on how a couple of secret service agents plowed through a white house barricade. they were reportedly headed back to the white house after a retirement party back on march 4. they apparently missed police tape and traffic cones that had been set up to check a suspicious package. their suv went through the police tape and hit an orange barrel. officers wanted to do field sobriety tests but a supervisor ordered them to go home. the new head of secret service waited four days to tell the white house what happened.

a protest tonight outside saint mary's cathedral in san francisco. this time, security kept the students off the main plaza. a group of students are speaking out against the archbishop's morality clause for teachers. >> i think a lot of my favorite teachers will lose their jobs or just leave because this is against their beliefs. >> the morality clause called sex outside marriage, homosexual relations, gravely evil. a police canine sank his teeth into two carjacking suspects through a chase in the south bay. we were there as two suspects were loaded into ambulances. police had given them the chance to surrender our face the dog. this started early this morning. police say the man used the gun to carjack an suv in east san jose. that kicked off a high speed chase for nearly 20 miles. finally ending in sunnyvale. police say the men then ditched

the car near stevens creek and tossed the gun. neighbors saw them jumping their fences. >> i opened my backyard. he went inside. and he is on the floor. looks like he jumped over my backyard. landed somewhere else. >> didn't take long before swat teams cornered the suspects in the garage area of the subdivision. we asked one of the suspects being loaded into the ambulance if he thought he would get away. he shook his head, no. looks like the six week oil refinery strike is almost over. and that's good news for everyone who buys gas. the strike forced the tessoro to close its martinez plant. today, the field workers and shell reached a contract deal, but the striking workers won't be back on the job until they approve the new contract. when they do return to work, analysts expect gas prices will go back down again. the average price in california right now?
