>> live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. breaking news, the u.s. attorney general is at the center of a scandal. accused of lying under oath about his contacts with russia. good evening, i'm elizabeth cook. >> i'm ken bastida. let's get right over to veronica de la cruz. tonight, some top democrats are now demanding that the u.s. attorney general resign immediately. >> reporter: that's right ken. did the nation's chief law enforcement officer commit perjury? so far, no response from the white house. the justice department says attorney general jeff sessions spoke with the russian ambassador to the u.s. twice during the presidential campaign. he did not disclose that information during his confirmation hearings last month show senators directly

asked him about contact with the russians. >> if there is any evidence that anyone affiliate requested the trump campaign communicated with the russian government in the course of the campaign, what will you do? >> senator franken, i'm not aware of any of those activities. i have been called a surrogate a time or two in that campaign. i did not have communications with the russians. and i'm unable to comment on it. >> reporter: the justice department says the conversations occurred in july and september. at that time, jeff sessions served as a republican senator for alabama and an adviser to the trump campaign. the statement from house minority leader nancy peli, jeff sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearing before the senate. he must resign. late tonight, sessions issued

this statement. i never met with any russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign. i have no idea what this allegation is about. it is false. tonight, republican senator lindsay graham says sessions should recuse himself from the justice department investigation. veronica de la cruz, kpix5. just last month, michael flynn resigned as the national security adviser. he stepped down because of a phone call that he had with russia before the election. then he misled the white house about it. the white house lawyers told president trump's aides this week to preserve all of the e- mails an other materials that could be connected to probes of russian interference in the election. >> two base jumpers busted. they jumped off the top of a san francisco sky scrape severe the hands of police. it is not their first stunt, joe vasquez is in san francisco. and check out the incredible video he uncovered tonight. >> reporter: the video is

stunning. looks like it is straight out of a movie, a man flying in a wing suit disappears into the clouds. the video comes from a social media account belonging to brendan winestein. he is one of two men arrested after flying off the hilton hotel in san francisco. >> what happened? >> just' guy on a night. >> reporter: the hotel is 493 feet high in a densely crowded area a few blocks from the tenderloin police station. they jumped at 11:30 and landed safely right into the arms of the police. >> there are some officers on patrol in that area. when they observed several people descending from the sky. with parachutes and they ended up landing near their patrol car. >> reporter: brendon who is 25 was arrested alongside 26-year- old josh glovak. police confiscated their sky diving equipment. brendon told reporters he cannot talk about what happened. both men list themselves as tech engineers on their linkedn

pages and both have multiple photos and videos promoting sky diving and base jumpingful police say base jumping is legal with a specific permit. but it is never allowed in densely populated area. they are out of jail now, both charged with trespassing and criminal conspiracy. joe vasquez, kpix5. >> there was a third jumper, a woman. and she got away. tonight, the victims of the small plane crash in retire side have been identified. eideen fereles, 22 years old. adana najazi and her husband nuri. it slammed into two houses monday afternoon shortly after takeoff. two women were thrown from the plane. they survived. and are now in critical condition. federal investigators are examining the crash site looking for clues about what might have gone wrong. drugs, guns, and lots of

cold hard cash. tonight, one of san leandro's most wanted is in custody. kpix5's christin ayers is live in front of police headquarters with details on the takedown. christin? >> reporter: yeah, liz, the man hunt for that missing shooter wore on for months tonight. san leandro police say they have their man and they think she connected to other crimes. a rolling gun battle in the streets of san leandro. >> two noises like a bang. a bang. and at first i thought they were shotgun blasts. >> reporter: followed by a violent crash last november. inside the crumpled prius, a married couple in their 60s left critically injured. police arrested one of the gunmen that day. today they announced. >> the second man was arrested yesterday afternoon. >> reporter: over three-and-a- half months, detectives tracked marcus jones to a home just a few miles from the police department. they arrested him on attempted murder charges last night. a search of his apartment

revealed this. $200,000 in cash. and an arsenal of weapons. an ak-47 assault rifle and a slew of semiautomatic pistols with custom magazines. some capable of holding up to 100 additional rounds of ammunition. >> people are keeping these for criminal activity. >> reporter: authorities don't know what sparked the gun battle. they say the two men don't seem to know each other. the couple hurt in the crash are recovering. though the man has a shattered pelvis and is now wheelchair bound. >> i guarantee that yesterday, our detective ins san leandro made the bay area a safer place for everybody by recovering these weapons and taking a very, very violent felon off of the streets. >> reporter: jones is behind bars at santa rita jail tonight. considering what he was hideing

in his closet, he may have gang ties. christin ayers, kpix5. a new clue in another high profile bay area case. the murder of a college student. playing pokimon go. police now say a car like this one was spotted leaving the scene. it is a 2013 or 2014 whited four door hyundai sonata. calvin park was in the area hunting pokimon at 10:00 p.m. when he was shot in the chest. no witnesses have come forward. park police in charge of that area are hoping that the car could jog someone's memory. tonight, the woman accused of helping her husband in the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history could be out on bail by this weekend. today, a federal judge in oakland granted bail for salman as she awaits trial.

she will remain in custody. in june of last year, her husband, omar mateen shot up an orlando nightclub, killing 49 people. as he was carrying out the attack, he pledged allegiance to several terror organizations. for days now, a san jose family has wondered who killed frank. the beloverred little league coach who was stabbed to death in a bar fight. tonight. kpix5's betty yu reports his family may have just gotten some answers. betty? >> reporter: that's right ken, we now know the men police believe are responsible for killing frank navarro. he loved his family here and his little league family. tonight, at a growing memorial for coach frank, at the east ridge little league field, a fresh bouquet on home plate. a baseball. and a baseball cap that says

security. things that represented everything frank navarro lovered and lived for. >> he lived for the kids. he had no kids of his own, but had hundreds of kids from the little league to mentor and get through life and keep off the streets. >> reporter: by night, he was a security manager at the cantina in downtown san jose. that is where he was stabbed to death on the job just after midnight on sunday. today, police identified the two san jose men arrested in his murder. >> he loved that job. he loved doing security. >> reporter: frank's uncle spent the day making funeral arrangements for his nephew. they were close in age and grew up together. those close to frank believe he or his staff turned someone with a fake idea away from the door. an argument erupted with the group and they returned to retaliate.

they picked up the suspects in their get away car. >> it has been tough all the way around. from every side of the family. it has been tough. >> tonight on the door at the bar he loved, a sign with a quote from frank reads every day we work to be better. better today than we were yesterday. and better tomorrow than we are today. frank was a san jose native and he also coached at overfelt high school. now san jose police still need your help. if you have any information relate today that night or two those suspects, they want to hear from you. live in san jose, betty yu, kpix5. 14 people are displaced tonight after a fire tore through their south san francisco apartment complex on olive avenue. you can see the burn marks around the windows of the second and the third floors of the structure. luckily, no one was hurt. california's epic storms have an epic price tag to match. state officials say it will cost about $50 billion to recover. a big donation is pouring into san jose tonight.

after that surprise flood. billionaire ququ hong delivered a check to the city leaders. he owns a winery in napa and says his mission in life is to help people. we are getting a look at some of the storm damage in big sur. sky drone 5 over the viper canyon bridge. as you can see, it is crashed beyond repair. he forced caltrans to close the scenic highway 1. a mud slide weakened one of the massive innocent columns. supports the bridge which will now have to be demolished. could take six months or more to build a new bridge. a tiny stow away grounded a flight to the bay area. passengers flying from heath road to sfo were stuck for hours. our len ramirez was there tonight when they finally landed. more like this. >> oh. >> everyone. >> there was a mouse on the plane. >> reporter: british airways spotted a mouse that had squeaked through security lines and boarded the 77 at heathrow. >> i'm sure the mouse didn't have a passport. >> reporter: with passengers already strapped in, the airline explained rules that the flight must be ground requested a mouse aboard. >> they said the reason a mouse would be a problem is it eats the wire. >> reporter: stunned passengers were delayed four hours while the airline tracked down a new plane. in the meantime, twitter went crazy with passengers conjuring up the mouse's potential travel look like a hawaiian look. maybe an eye mask. or a rainbow pride flag for his would be arrival in san francisco. >> i wasn't upset. i would rather not fly a plane that then gets wires chewed by a mouse. >> reporter: it was a full flight. a huge airplane. a tiny mouse, and now a huge bill for british airways. in england, they are already

calling him the 250,000-pound mouse for the cost associated with canceling the original flight. at sfo, len ramirez, kpix5. >> a couple of cats would have the job done in five minutes. yahoo is punishing the ceo. they voted to withdraw marissa myer's bonus. they suffered two massive security breaches during her time as ceo. she usually receivers an annual bonus of about $2 million. it's the biggest tech ipo in years. tonight, snap chat is getting ready to go public. snap chat begins trading tomorrow. the company priced its shares at $17 each. that is a dollar more than the previously expected price range. that put it is company's value at nearly $24 billion. on wall street today, the dow entered uncharted territory surpassing 21,000 points setting another record close.

now, to the biggest thing to happen in san francisco's china town in years. a $20 million project. the much anticipated grand opening was tonight. kpix5's andria borba was there. >> reporter: the sidewalks are overflowing with vegetable vendors but san francisco's china town hasn't exactly been a destination for foodies. restaurantuer george chen wants to change that. >> the white box with the mysterious brown sauce. absolutely. thatthere is nothing wrong with that. but i think with the world becoming more closer place, and china booming, there is a lot more to learn about it. >> reporter: this is chen's entry into the china town food scene, china live. for chen, tenderloin it's a way to challenge preconceived notions of what chinese food
