at north star ski resort. good evening. >> authorities say crowder fell into a tree well. we talked to the victim's father and show you what skiers and snowboarders can learn from the accident. >> the snowboarding accident tore apart the crowder family. the father gave me this family photo. he wants people to know he was a food man. the hope now is people can learn from this tragedy. >> he was wonderful. he's kind. it's hard to believe he's gone. i look at the truck and expect him to get out of it. [ crying ] >> crowder drove up to the north star ski resort monday. it's a trip me made many times. a season ticket hold forat least ten years. his family got worried when he didn't come home. he called the authorities. the north star ski patrol found his body wednesday in a deep tree well. >> that he -- went head first into the hole and it knocked him out and -- he suffocated.

>> it as big shocker for the family since he was an experienced snowboarder. he had done it for close to 25 years. >> you never expect it for your kids. you don't expect them to for before you. >> the sheriff's department says the heavy snowfall this winter formed a lot of tree wells in the pack country as well as controlled ski resorts. >> you can go deep. deep, deep, deep. and i'm on my feet. >> that is why experts say never ski alone. a father captured the scary moment of his son falling into a tree well. >> head up. its okay. its day. here we go. i got you. >> there was no one to pull him out of the tree well. the ski patrol found his body upside down. they returned his snowboard to the family. >> like today we went to the store -- my wife said do we need

cayanne pepper. i said there is nobody to eat it anymore. just little things like that. >> he was 40 years old. his family plans to bury him next friday. back to you. >> north star said crowder was found in an area outside the main ski runs. tonight we had we are learning a bay area principal is fighting for his life after getting shot. condolences are pouring in on social media for 44-year-old paul. kpix 5 spoke to one of his colleagues who said he is the new principal at pittsburgh adult education center. police found him suffering from gun shot wounds on barry drive at around 1:20 many morning. police say it appears there was a fight between the victim and his wife before the shooting. detectives are now investigating the shooting. so far no word of any arrests. bay area mosques and islamic cent v. been holding vigils for those affected by the massacre

with democrats for a resolution to block the president's declaration. >> it should have been -- a lesson to him to see that 12 republicans in the senate voted against his -- power from the congress of the united states. >> today in san francisco pelosi said she will call for a vote on march 26th to overturn the veto. she said its important to put the vote on record even if it fell short of the necessary two-thirds majority. bernie sander social security planning his first bay area stop since launching his 2020 presidential campaign. the vermont senator will hold a rally in san francisco next sunday. it starts at 12:30 at great meadow park. the event is free. tickets are not required. admission will be first come, first serve. well tonight at least one person is injured, a dozen people are displaced after two fires broke out in an apartment complex in vacaville. first one started around 8:00 in

carjacking an #1u6 outside a wells fargo bank on san mateo road. authority says suspect pulled the gun on somebody at an atm and demands cash and they wanted the keys to a bmw x3. investigators are seeking two other men who were sitting in a car nearby. they might be linked to the crime. police think they spotted the car but lost sights of it. more than 200 oakland school clerks and other staff will be getting lay off notice in the coming weeks. the school district is dealing with a $22 million cut from next year's budget. after 7 days of strikes last month, oakland teachers approved a new contract for an 11% raise over a span of four years. the teachers union said they are
