clouds stick around on the coast. mostly cloudy skies in the upper 50s. for the bay, mostly cloud to partly sunny, mid-60s for the bay. and inland, partly sunny, with temperatures in the mid-70s. i'll show you future cast, timing out for you this weather system that we're tracking in a few minutes. emily? >> thanks, mary. let's time out your traffic this morning and see where your biggest compute problems are at 5:01. so far, we haven't see anything commute times in the red out of your travel time of the the only delay we're seeing is up to 36 minutes now. gained a whopping six minutes. everywhere else looks good. we have a new trouble spot to report this. one we were talking about a few moments ago. we've now got information that it is northbound 101. so far, because traffic is light. in the south bay at this hour, it shouldn't be anything terrible, as far as the delay
is concerned. we are starting to see drive times now in the red, though, as you are coming through the altamonte pass. your speed down to 13 miles per hour. then you're going to hit a breakdown, just past the dublin interchange. michelle? >> emily, thank you. happening today, troubling mounts for uber, before the company goes public tomorrow. why taxi drivers are upset. jackie? >> reporter: michelle, this initial public offering is very high profile. in fact, it will be the biggest since 2014. 5.4 million aror 3% will be reserved for drivers. uber is set to announce its i.p.o. for tomorrow. we're expecting shares to be in the $40 to $50 range. that would give it a >> drivers, united, we'll never be defeated. ahead of the i.p.o., they
staged protests and strikes. in san francisco, they shut down part of market street for more than an hour. drivers are demanding more benefits, better tranparency, and higher wages. they make $18 an hour on average. but that's before expenses. happening today, taxi drivers will be protesting what they call uber's unlawful, unethical and distracted policies. they're encouraging people not to use their services and not to buy their stock. that's why a lot of taxi drivers will be out here in front of uber headquarters at 1:00 this afternoon. live in san francisco, jackie bord, kpix 5. doctors are under investigation for allegedly letting kids off the hook with genetic vaccines. he subpoenaed anonymous medical records from dr. kenneth stoler. the doctor is a vocal opponent
to vaccines and used 23 and me to fabricate things. this comes amid the worst measles outbreak in decades and growing concerns about low vaccination rates in some schools. state law requires all children to be vaccinated in order to attend public school, unless they have a valid medical reason. we reached out to the doctor, he said family have the right to opt out. he calls it a political expedition. tuesday's shooting attack. they held this vigil. one student dide after two students opened fire at the stems school highlands ranch. ite others were injured. susp appeared meesterday. 18-year-old devin ericson kept his head down during most of the hearing. authorities identified the
juvenile suspect as 16-year-old alec mckinney. they are facing first-degree murder and attempted murder charges. a 12-year-old student recounts his frightening experience. >> i was hiding in the corner. and they were right outside the door. i had my hand on a metal baseball bat, just in case. because i was going to go down fighting if i was going to go down. the victim killed in the attack has been identified as kendrick castillo. witnesses say the 18-year-old student died, trying to stop one of the two armed suspects from shooting. giving classmates time to escape. he was just three days away from graduating. students will soon be able to carry guns on campus. governor ron desantis made it official. it allows more teachers to voluntarily carry guns on campus. but local school boards have to alloacto be armed. 5:01.
one man is in custody. the suspect is accused of selling firearms illegally. the weapons include pistols, rifles, shotguns and assault weapons. tools and equipment to manufacture firearms were also found inside that house. >> i've never seen so many weapons. that's such a big arsenal. it's kind of astounding. >> federal investigators say that authorities received an anonymous tip about a person selling firearms illegally. the investigation is expected to be a long, tedious process. as every serial number is researched to find out the history of each weapon. i'm anne makovec at the live news desk. and a chinese delegation is now on its way to washington, d.c. to continue the very tense trade talk negotiations between the u.s. and china. last night, president trump said china, quote, broke the deal he was negotiating. and that brings us closer to
the possibility of tariffs being raised. from 10% to 25%. that deadline is coming up on friday. back to you. all right, anne. thank you. looking live at capitol hill this morning, where partisan warfare over the mueller report has descended into what one democrat calls a constitutional crisis. the house judiciary voted to hold attorney general william barr in contempt after he refused to hand over a report. the white house calls it a, quote, blatant abuse of power. and claimed executive privilege. this goes to a vote now before the full house. and this morning, sources say the senate intelligence committee has subpoenaed donald trump jr. . the presidid vongis fifth amendment rights or may not appear at all. on said campaign trail. president trump returned to the white house last night after
attending his first political rally in florida in the 2020 race. he announced $448 million in relief. but had harsh words for the president. >> we gave to puerto rico $91 billion. that's puerto rico. you know what? i have a great relationship with the people of puerto rico. but it hasn't been fair the way they've treated all of us from the standpoint of their leaders. because they complained they want more money. >> we have mention the number is misleading. the washington post reports only $11 billion in aid has been given with $48 billion allocated. $91 billion over the next years. 3,000 people died hurricane maria. meanwhile, democratic rival, former vice president joe biden made an appearance at a taco joint. biden talked about immigration

in just six months, the santa clara golf club in santa clara will be shutting its doors for good. the land will be bulldozed to make way for massive development. covering 240 acres. >> it will be a city within a city of entertainment. food, retail, shopping, offices, residential. >> sorry that we'll lose a nice track. you know, 'sa good golf course design, once you've played it a couple of times. >> city leaders say this project will be built in phases. the course is set to officially close in october. a san francisco comedy club that has played host to greats like shapel are looking for a new home. the club said it is unable to renew its lease. it will be moving this august. as san francisco's oldest comedy club, it opened in 1988.
it supports upcoming comedians as well as looking for new headliners. we walk by there every day. >> yes, to get coffee. nothing funny in weather and traffic. >> nothing funny there. but the good news is, we at least don't have anything terrible to report. we have a few delays, but nothing out of the ordinary here at 5:15. live look at the toll plaza. metering lights are not yet on. but they will be shortly. you're starting to see that backup, under that 880 flyover. we will see the metering lights on. san mateo bridge. things are starting to slow down. in the meantime, important to note that midspan, chp is reporting that there is a traffic cone out there. that may be slowing thins down a bit. things will start to move a little quicker this morning. off to the richmond san rafael bridge. where we will start to see delays here shortly. they'll be moving out of the
way. a few delays, though, coming out. altamonte pass. that slowdown is starting to grow. down to 13 miles an hour through the triangle. everything seems to be smooth sailing until you get to the dublin interchange. nothing terrible beyond that. there is a little slow down behind this breakdown. one lane is blocked. and they're working to get that out of the area. in the south bay, there's an accident, northbound 101 at 880. so far, that lane is blocked but not causing any delays. a little beyond that, northbound 101, we are see something kind of debris in the roadway. but again, not really affecting your road time. there wasn't a slow lane blocked with a big rig. moving right along at a normal speed. your drive times, in through the altamonte pass looks good to go and in the green. i mentioned yet that use
your windshield wipers in the golden gate. you can see the foggy conditions and also patchy drizzle on our live, golden gate bridge camera. temperatures are running in the low to mid-50s. here's what you can do. areas of fog. patchy dressle. low clouds as a result of onshore flow. we'll see slow and gradual clearing today. mostly cloudy to partly sunny and seasonal daytime highs. we have a chance to see a few showers for tonight. and i'll show you the reason why. this low-pressure system will move past to the east. it's close enough to us with that counterclockwise flow around that low that we could see a few showers. so wraparound moisture is possible. to your weather headlines. tonight, 20% chance of a few showers with that unstable atmosphere. the possibility of isolated thunderstorm. and the best chance to see that will be the east bay and the south bay. but again, slight chance of roe

different crops but now the e.p.a. is moving to ban it outright. that is a victory for farm workers who have been exposed to the deadly neurotoxin for decades. voters just made denver the first city in the country to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms. the initiative may be used to have possession of mushrooms 21 or older. the lowest priorities. colorado was one of the first two states to legalize recreational marijuana. >> obesity is rising among people who live in the country,w the city followed weight 2007s in the country. finds obesity is on the rise, worldwide. and 55% of the increase has come from rural populations. researchers say that that's partly because cities offer more options for healthier food

to see a showng . good morning to you. 5:30. those metering lights are on at the bay bridge. that means things are slowing down. they're backed up beyond that 880 overpass. you can see that traffic is starting to grow. so far, no trouble spots to report, at least on the bridge or approaching the bridge. now to the san mateo bridge, where chp has removed the traffic cone. everything seems to be moving along. not too many brake lights. but a traditional heavier flow for this time of morniwhich will continue to increase. now off to the richmond san rafael bridge. we are starting to see a little heavier volume making your way into marin. we are seeing slowdowns in the southbound direction. this is early for this. that's because where you see it dropping to 43 miles per hour, and a little slower. that's because they are doing traffic control down to two lanes on southbound 101 down to
one lane over the bridge. but at least there, it looks pretty good to go. >> i'm ann macko vick at the -- makovec at the news desk. we are looking alt what seems to be a projectile in north korea. turns out there were two unidentified projectiles launched. and south korea believes they s this is another compication in the stall -- complications in the stalled negotiations with the u.s. and testing other new weaponsfields last week. back to you. >> thank you. new details about a deadly motorcycle crash on a scenic mountain road in santa clara county. they found the motorcyclist in palo alto. the winding road is popular for bikers. but it is dangerous. the chp tells us that the victim is in her 20s.
her identity has not yet been released. cause is under investigation. in solano county this morning, chp is investigating a deadly chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles on highway 12. officers call it a mass cacialtsd incident. -- casualty incident. the chp say its all started when a white van slammed into four other cars. one driver was killed. several others are injured. new revelations this morning about a disturbing discovery inside a bathroom at sfo. the body of a well-respected east asian scholar, which ties to stanford were found. mingw chen died in a bathroom facility. but what's more disturbing, he wasn't discovered until 17 hours later. >> from the airport's perspective. you know, we typically leave it up to the airlines to manage you know, the situation whenever the passengers don't actually board the flight.
>> the autopsy reports showed that chan this clagged arteries in his heart. in a statement, they confirmed the death in the lounge. but did not say why it took so long for someone to find him. testimony in the ghost ship fire continues today. yesterday, a fire marshal took the stand. said the rvs and trailers inside that warehouse were a safety violation. he went on to say that propane tanks inside them, could fuel the flames. the defense fired back, saying that the code violations were not the culprit. 36 people died in that fire in 20 escape. this morning -- 2016. this morning, the owner of the flint stone house is striking back. florence feng has fired a counter suit after she got sued for lacking the proper permits for having a dinosaur exhibit in her backyard.
she accuses the city of race discrimination. >> i will bet you anything, during this lawsuit, we will find more district treatment than you can imagine because she's trying to sue. >> she didn't have a permit. i don't know why she's doing a counter suit, though. >> the city attorney issued a statement saying, quote, the town of hillsboro strongly denies that it has a policy of discrimination against asians or any other racial or eghtsd nick group -- ethnic group. take a look at this person. police say this guy walked into the bank of america on mcdowell boulevard, just before 4:30 yesterday afternoon. he passed a note demanding money and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. officers confiscated 20 pounds of meth. also seized an ak-47.
this morning, a suspect is in custody. happening today, sentencing is set in new york in the case of a woman whdollars from banks and hotels. anna siroken was convicted on multiple counts of arson. siroken's attorney said she faces up to 15 years in prison on the most serious charge. the november wildfires have become the most expensive in state history. insurance claims have topped $12 billion. most of that traces back to the camp fire killing 85 people in november. this morning, the town ever paradise is littered with remains of homes and businesses. firefighter says it was a perfect storm of high winds and dry fuels. >> never thought it would
occur. >> yesterday, six-month anniversary of the fire, we join the california board of forythe devastation there. state regulators there want to see how fire preparation and response can be improved. >> i'm a forester. and i love trees. but not every single one needs a hug. so having too many on the landscft well-intended regulations get in the way of fire suppression and recovery. like those that prohibit the removal of trees and burned trees from property. the board says it will review it and create a comprehensive statewide wildfire plan. trump administration and capitol hill republicans try to dismantle the affordable care act. it says the uninsured rate for americans age 45 to 64 jumped to 10 pntdz 3% -- 10.3% last
year. the uninsured rate remains stable for younger adults. san francisco based uber. the ride hailing company will start trailing with a valuation of $80 to $90 billion. joining us now is analyst jill schlesinger. jill, this is significant ask one of the most anticipated i.p.o.s of the year. >> yeah. here, all the real estate agents are getting psyched. because there's going to be more instant billionaires gobbling up more real estate in the state. uber's business is based on an app. by the way, it's also a business that uses gig workers. meaning uber doesn't have to count those members as full- time employees. even with that advantage, according to the offering document, uber lost more than $3 billion in operating losses in 2018. that works out to about an average of 58 cent on each of
its 5.2 billion rides last year. analysts say it could be more than a decade before the company turns a profit. investors don't care. saying this might be the next facebook. this will be in the top three tech fieldless. it could be roughly twice as much as ford. more than combined southwest, american airlines together. >> this t doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad investment. tell us why. >> well, look. the company is positioning itself as the amzon of transport -- amazon of transportation. by the way, uber seems to have also adopted the amazon approach of expanding user base. and revenue growth in new market. and doing it at a loss before it can find money before more profitable.

see a few showers and isolated thunderstorm later today. details coming up. i'm anne makovec at the live news desk. and we have breaking news out of hayward now. this is a live picture of the aftermath of a fire overnight. several homes have burned down. we're hearing at least five. now, these were either under construction or model homes. a mix of the two. so nobody was living in the homes at the time. so that is good news. this is holy oak. but you can see significant damage there on some of the home frames. at this point, we don't know if this was possibly arson or any sort of accident. but we're going to be finding out more information. we'll keep you posted throughout the broadcast. back to you. >> thank you. 5:44 now. let's take a live look outside this morning. lots of bicyclists will hit the street. we'll see these guys getting

pretty darn good. headed across the richmond san rafael bridge. everything looks good to go. and we aren't seeing any major delays this. is the highway 4 connector ramp. it is moved to the right shoulder. doesn't seem to be causing any delaysa the this hour. but we are starting to see delays northbound 101. now, also in the commute direction northbound on 17 at summit road. this has been moved to the right shoulder. but because of the nature of this road, take this, it's narrow, windy. we are starting to see some delays in that direction. also, off to the altamonte pass, where we are down to 12 miles per hour at the tracy triangle. you are good to go at the dublin interchange. starting to creep up as we get busier and busier. mary? >> thanks, emily. it's a cloudy and foggy
