think a storm's coming it is moving closer. >> we have live team coverage out in cocoa beach, florida. first meteorologist mary lee is tracking dorian's latest track. >> that's right. dorian is now a major hurricane out in the warm atlantic waters. we've been watching this storm intensify and will continue to intensify and strengthen as we go through the holiday weekend. so right now the enhanced satellite imagery of hurricane dorian. now let's show you the latest stats. right now packing maximum sustained winds with hurricane dorian of 115 miles per hour. it's moving northwest at 10 miles per hour. and then strengthening into a category 4 storm impacting the bahamas by this weekend and still a category four storm as it nears the florida coast. likely making landfall along the florida coast by late monday night into early tuesday as a category 4 storm and we're talking about category 4 storm

that is a catastrophic hurricane with a strong storm surge, dangerous flash flooding, hurricane forced winds. this is not a good situation. i'll be watching this very closely for you. nicole killion is in cocoa beach m this storm. >> the storm continues to churn out here in the atlantic and won't make it for a few more days. >> it's hard to say exactly where hurricane dorian will make landfall. forecasters say the powerful storm is going to hit along florida's atlantic coast monday or tuesday. for now, most people are staying put including keen in a williams. >> we have a generator and stuff like that. so i feel like we're all set. >> so you're going to ride it out. >> the path i'm looking at we're not near the eye wall at all so i'm not as concerned with that impact. >> i had a half a tank of gas so

harm's way. mobilizing 2,000 troops today and even more tomorrow. >> florida's governor says possible evacuation orders. he said those residents who are in the evacuation zones is tolle orders. kpix 5. >> and we will have continuing coverage of hurricane dorian throughout the weekend on air, online, and at kpix.com. i'm emily turner at the live news desk where we have some breaking news that's happening in san jose. you're looking at video just into our newsroom. fire crews on the scene of oak grove high school. there was a structure fire there. now it was isolated only to a custodial building and not affecting students at this point. it did burn some stuff. it caused a bunch of damage. crews are on the scene right now trying to make sure it is contained and it is out. there are no hot spots. currently they are working on overhauling that building. we'll have more a little bit

later in the day. i'm emily turner back to you. two fires in los gatos this afternoon. the two alarm blaze at the double d's sports grill broke out at about 1:30 in the morning and it just recently re-opened after a 2016 fire. the overnight blaze damaged several connecting businesses and the building on village lane and there were no injuries there. three people are recovering after a house fire a few hours rlier on overlook road in los gatos. crews say the fire started in front of a single family home. one of the two residents went to the hospital with what was described as moderate injuries. the cause of both fires is under investigation. we'll have much more on this story coming up on the kpix 5 news at 5:00 and online at kpix.com. a student at palo alto's gun high school is being questioned after allegedly making online

threats to shoot up his campus. the 14-year-old boy was taken into custody last night for a mental health evaluation. and the d.a. will decide if he will face charges. heating up in sacramento and so is an effort to put the measure to voters instead. anne makovec is here with the latest on the organizations to take sides. >> that measure is being debated right now in a senate committee and just a few steps away from passage after making it through the state assembly. as employees, they'd be entitled to things like worker's comp., paid sick leave and minimum wages. and there would be powerful incentives for an employer to control the number of hours they work. th a today we heard from the national limo association which supports it and warrants of the alternative. >> what if all businesses decide

you know what we're all going to hire independent contractors throughout the state. what happens to the state economy then? what happens to the taxes? what happens to the worker's comp.? what happens to the health care at this point because nobody's covered? >> but at least three companies uber, lyft, and door dash are contributing $90 million that would take the measure to voters should it pass in sacramento. lyft sent out a statement in part saying they're working on a solution that provides drivers with strong protections that include earnings guarantee a system of worker-directed benefits and first of its kind industry-wide bargaining. door dash says we're confident that california voters support t go of thousands of drivers. uber and lyft are now proposing an alternative a minimum wage of $21 an hour. new at noon, the search is wig-g bank bber.a

a lk this guy. the san mateo county sheriff's office tweeting out these pictures. they say that the suspected thief sported a long, black wig, a medical mask, sunglasses and possibly even a fake nose. if you have any information you're asked to call police. also in san mateo county police are looking for at least 8 suspects who robbed this apple store last night and took off with about $70,000 worth of products. it's the third time this month that store has been hit. two people have been arrested after they were caught on camera stealing puppies from a san francisco animal shelter. surveillance video caught three men snatching two husky pups and one pit bull pup from the family dog renognd someone reposted them offering the huskies for sale. >> the people who stole these dogs probably did something

fairly stumd in stealing them from a shelter -- stupid in stealing them from a shelter that has a wide base support. >> the third man seen in the video and the pit bull remain unknown at this point. as work resumes on a major bart project. bart is replacing a stretch of tracks. this means the two eastbound lanes on highway 24 are shut down as a result and starts tonight. delays of 40 minutes or more can be expected tomorrow through monday. there will be disruptions every other weekend through october. bart officials saying that the mess will be worth it. >> when all this work is done it's going to be a much more reliable ride, it's going to be a safer ride and we think we can get a lot done this labor day weekend. for us, it increases the productive hours we have to do by 67%. >> despite the shutdown free shuttle bus service will be

mid 70s for san jose as well as for santa rosa. so satellite and radar view we have a ridge of high pressure to our south and a low pressure system out in the pacific to our west. looking at that on shore flow, we started off the day with low clouds and areas of fog. now we're catching that clearing for most of us. high pressure's going to continue to build in as we look ahead to the holiday weekend and with it we'll see those temperatures on the rise. taking you hour by hour on future cast and you can see that sun as we head through tomorrow morning very similar. low clouds and areas of fog along the coast and for parts of the bay and then that sun as we head through the afternoon. temperatures even warmer for your saturday, sunday and for your monday on labor day. if you're suffering from allergies. not the best news here. looking at medium high levels for today but increases for saturday, sunday, and gate gets even worse for monday, labor day. one of the worst pollen counts we've seen in quite some time skyrocketing into the high
