decision, please >> pam: day four of disappointment for bay area commuters. >> we're not close to an good evening, thank you for joining us. here's what we know. it is now well into day 4 of the bart strike. and still no deal has been reached. negotiations between bart unions and management areat issue - salary. health safety. kron 4's justine waldman is live outside the negotiation headquarters in oakland. right now here at the >> reporter: caltrans headquarters. both sides are trying to reach a contract agreement to get the trains moving again. this is video of the union leaders entering the building during day 4 of the strike. morning. bart management and the unions, seiu and atu, aren't even meeting in the same roomstate mediators are going back and forth relaying information. the seiu addressed its members at a high energy rally at lake merritttelling them that bart management is trying to break apart the union and impose a contract. coming up at 5:30 hear bart's response to the accusation that it is trying to impose a contract. bottom line, as of now there has been no significant

kron 4's dan kerman is there with details. >> reporter: there were some tense moments, things got a happy ending, thanks to san francisco police officer. this was a three story of the apartment building on pine street. >> my sister came out of the shower and smelled smoke. she said oh my gosh! there is smoke. i said oh my gosh! there is smoke and i know that there is an elderly resident thank

goodness that she is okay. this officer is an absolute the woman suffered minor injuries and the officer had smoke inhalation. this fire was put out in about 30 minutes. it prevented the spread next door just two different units for damage. and the unit down below. that suffered smoke and water damage. residents will have to find another place to love at least in the short term. dan kerman, kron 4 news. >> ofpreparations for fourth of july fireworks

5:30. ibart negotiations continue, with union leaders. as the strike continues. today, the bart workers gathered at the oakland station to continue their picketing. it is in its fourth day although commuters got a bit of a reprieve the because of today's holiday. bart is the nation's fifth largest rail system carrying 400,000 commuters each day. once the strike is over and it will take about 18 hours for trains to get up and running. live in oakland. where negotiations continue tonight. justine?

across the country, americans are marking independence day with tributes to the red, white and blue. in our nation's capital. crowds gathered today along constitution avenue for the annual independence day parade. the event featured a flag presentation by the continental color guard and a performance by the fife and drum corps. later this evening. top entertainers.including barry manilow and neil diamond. will perform on the national

mall. there will also be a 17- minute fireworks display. and the question on everyones mind. what will the weather be like for tonight's fireworks shows? meteorologist brian van aken is live in our weather center with a first look. brian. also ahead-- a woman's car is swallowed up by a large sinkhole. her dramatic rescue. next. and: a live look at ahead of tonight's fireworks. we have live reporters stationed across the bay area. to bring you all the major fireworks shows. join us tonight on kron 4 at nine o'clock for that. and we'll be back with more news, after the break. and new tonight at six o'clock. a dog is recovering after eating a meatball laced with poison. while out on a walk in a san francisco neighborhood. the latest on oscar's recovery. and the search for the culprit. that's tonight on kron 4 news at six. headlights northbound -- commute direction 680 near the hwy. 24 interchange that fast-moving wildfire in arizona is now 45 percent contained. the one that killed 19 firefighters - almost every member of an elite team called the "hot shots." some of the people who were evacuated are being allowed to return home tonight. but fire officials say they're worried about people who had refused to leave. they haven't been able to reach every area yet to check on them. the fire has burned 13 square miles and destroyed more than 100 homes. a woman in ohio says she still can't believe this happened to her. the huge sinkhole that opened up at a busy intersection -- swallowing her car. she was rescued - and has lived to talk about it tonight. but you can see from these photos just how frightening this had to be. that car is at least ten feet underground. the car was not only in a very deep hole -- it was starting to fill with water. look at the size of this sinkhole. imagine driving home on a quiet afternoon in toledo.and ending up inside this. pamela knox says she suddenly felt the ground begin to shake.and her car - begin to fall. >> "as the car was falling, i just kept calling on the name of jesus, i just kept saying jesus.jesus."

>> catherine: a giant sinkhole had opened.leaving pamela trapped inside. >> "it wasn't like boom.it was falling and falling." >> catherine: an outdated sewer is being blamed.notice the water gushing over the car. it's believed the sewer broke -- washing the ground away.and leading to the split in the concrete. >> "water started pouring into the back of the car and started filling up the back seat. and i had to remain calm so i didn't freak out." >> catherine: pamela's husband kenny was standing out the sidelines watching every move. >> "there could have been other cars behind her and it could have been a pile up i call it a miracle." >> catherine: pamela later found out that firefighters were afraid the ground would keep giving away. and she'd never get out alive. they got a ladder in just in time -- gently encouraging her to hurry out.. >> "they were my guardian angels that came to rescue

some of the members just walked out of the negotiation headquarters. you can see that they are taking their different path, not commenting to the media were giving us any indication that they are closer to any portions of the deal. this is the fourth day of the bart strikes. this is video that they were getting ready to start another marathon session of negotiations. these are the biggest unions are not even meeting in the same rooms. there are state mediators going from room to room

san jose police announced today a convicted felon is in custody. .after officers found a small arsenal of weapons during a probation check. officers conducted the compliance last night at a home in the four hundred block of jackie drive. and what you see is what they found. 29 firearms were found at the home. among them -- rifles, shotguns and automatic weapons. the unidentified felon cooperated with police and pointed out where all weapons were within the home. he was then taken into custody. if you're hitting the road this july fourth holiday weekend, you could be in luck. fewer people are expected to travel, and gas prices could be lower. of course, that all depends on where you live. pamela brown explains. >> reporter: whether you drive a gas guzzler,,, or not. it's a good bet you're paying extra attention to prices at the pump if you plan on hitting the road this 4th of july. >> "you never know what's going to happen. it goes up and down all the time." >> reporter: good news- right now they're going down. the national average for a gallon of gas is just below 3-50 a gallon.
