from the tracks now bart say they are recovering. we have heard from some commuters whose trains had been delayed as much as 45 minutes to create the trackway is clear and bart is in recovery mode. they say it should take about 30 minutes to unwind these delays. >>james:santa clara police are on the scene of an attempted robbery at a gun store. the break in happened at "reed's indoor range" just a few hours ago. to get you more news faster, kron 4 solo reporter mike pelton is live at the scene. the owner told me that the act. some video from the store you can see the windows smashed out front with glass everywhere as the

burglars made their way and the store around 4:00 this morning. the owner says they also made it through a heavy metal security. police caught the robber and it's all thanks to his security system. >>: it's proven to be a great system. atf has been down department of justice has been done. if this was in a secure system that would have gotten a lot more merchandise and it probably would not have been caught with this is a very sophisticated system and that is why they were apprehended. >>maureen: for obvious reasons he does not want to go into how the security system works. police got here as the suspects were leaving. according to the honored that's how they track down the three people responsible. they do hope to get a briefing from police over the next hour so an awfully large more information about the three people they now have in custody.

>>james: >>mark: today is the start of the "eye-80" challenege. it's a weeklong effort by the c-h-p and 10 other state highway patrols from california to new york. kron four's solo reporter jackie sissel is live from the east shore freeway this morning with more on what the goal is for the week. jackie? >> reporter: it is the second largest interstate and the entire country stretching from california all the way to new york. some 2,900 mi. it runs. if you're going to be driving over the next eight days york want to see a lot more black and white. it is called the high 80 challenge. highway patrol agencies are going to be running this by 80 challenge. it is promoting safe driving. according to some statistics they say at least one person died on i

80 in california every eight days. because of that they are increasing enforcement especially during a heavy summer driving system. we had a chance to talk to the chp it here in california and this is what they have to say about the high 80 challenge. >>: make sure that the motorist particularly the drivers are driving in the state is the manner possible observing speeds falling at a safe distance eliminating distractions so that they can drive to arrive alive at their destination from 2009 to 2011 some 30,000 fatalities occurred on i 80 across the nation. it starts today and it is going to run all the

welcome back. the dow turning negative. down 35 points despite news coming up that new home sales surged in the month of june. that's despite higher mortgage rates coming in. keeping our eyes on apple stock. apple stock is on the rise. apple's latest quarterly report confirm the iphone maker's growth has stalled.although the quarterly results did top wall st. expectations results were announced after the markets closed

yesterday.and it showed that the tech giant has fallen quarter. still, apple earned six- point-nine billion dollars in the quarter. but it was a 22 percent drop from last year. revenue totalled 35-point- five billion dollars. the big surprise was the number of iphones sold.over 31 million.although consumers have been buying older model, less expensive i- phones apple hasn't released a breakthrough product since the ipad 3 years ago. >>darya:the maker of salsas sold at dollar tree and deals, dollar express and dollar bills stores nationwide is recalling the product after large glass pieces were found in some jars. olam tomato processors inc. announced the recall yesterday of its mild

and a vehicle that has stalled on the tracks earlier but as a result the system got back up on the pittsburgh of a point line leading to san francisco. actually trains some passengers reported a 45 minute train delays. all that has been done and a bart is in recovery mode but if you are entering the system now you could experience 10 to 15 minute delays on the pittsburgh bay point line. it will take a little while before those delays work themselves out. on to the freeway is no hot spots here at the bay bridge. we're looking at about an 18 minute drive times. no problems on the bay bridge currently and for the san mateo bridge ride still a good commute for the golden gate bridge right

still foggy looking at your east may commute we picked up a little more slowing on 680 southbound still pretty normal the drive times now 24 minutes hercules the berkeley. >>james:more charges could come this week for a 20 year old y-m-c-a worker accused of molesting at least four children under his care. nicholas lhermine of morgan hill appeared in court yesterday afternoon. he's accused of molesting at least four girls ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old.

ler-min-a worked for the y- m-c-a in morgan hill for four years. police say in several cases, he was alone with the children and took photos of them after he violated them. y-m-c-a officials say that it is against policy to allow a worker to be alone with any child. ler-min-a was also a soccer coach for the y-m-c-a. his mother is an administrator for the facility. >>mark:former new england patriots tight end aaron hernandez will make another appearance in court today. a probable cause hearing for hernandez is scheduled this afternoon in attleboro

district court. he has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death last month of odin lloyd. prosecutors say hernandez orchestrated lloyd's killing because he was upset at lloyd for talking to people hernandez had problems with at a nightclub a few days earlier. hernandez's lawyers say the case against him is circumstantial and he wants to clear his name. >>darya:the father of slain florida teenager trayvon martin will be on capitol hill today for a hearing addressing the challenges faced by african-american boys and men.

tracy martin will give the opening remarks at the first hearing of the newly formed congressional caucus on black men and boys. >>james:president obama is trying to refocus the public on the economy, arguing in a new series of economic speeches that building the middle class will boost the nation's bottom line. the first of those speeches is today in galesburg, illinois. that speech will happen around 10 our time. the speech is expected to focus on technology and globalization, and the idea that hard work can get a person ahead.

queen elizabeth is meeting her new great grandson for the first time today. she arrived at kensington palace to greet the two day old prince. catherine, dutchess of cambridge, was discharged from the hospital yesterday. he's now home with his parents. in front of a sea of reporters and onlookers, the proud father prince william held his son and addressed the media. >>"very emotional." >>"yeah, it's very emotional. such a special time. i think any parent, i think, probably knows what this feeling feels like." >>"it's very special."

>>mark: welcome back to the kron4 morning news. an out- of-control natural gas well off the louisiana coast has caught fire, hours after a blowout that prompted the evacuation of 44 workers. officials stressed that the blowout wouldn't be close to as damaging as the 2010

b-p oil spill. no injuries have been reported in the blowout that was reported yesterday morning. it is unknown what caused the gas to ignite. it also wasn't clear how and when crews would attempt to extinguish the blaze. >>james:new this morning, russia's state news agency says u-s leaker edward

snowden has documents to enter russia. he has applied for temporary asylum. snowden has been in a transit area of the moscow airport for a month. that's after the u-s revoked his passport. the u-s justice department has charged snowden with espionage for leaking the existence of u-s government surveillance programs. >>darya:house lawmakers are scheduled to vote on a key amendment today that would severely limit the national security agency's electronic surveillance program. but the white house and other supporters of the program say that ending the massive collection of phone records from millions of americans would put the nation at risk from another terrorist attack. the head of the nsa has urged lawmakers to reject it. seven republican committee chairmen have also issued a similar plea in a letter to their colleagues.

eastshore freeway in berkeley. c-h-p says they want to focus on making sure drivers are obeying the speed limit, avoiding distractions and using their seatbelts. the challenge officially starts today and will end on july 31st. hot >>mark:san francisco is finally getting free wi-fi. at least in 31 city parks. six years after a deal to blanket the city fell apart, supervisor mark farrell and google are expected to announce a plan today to bring public wireless internet access to parks, recreation centers, and plazas throughout the city. its going to cost google 600-thousand dollars. the wireless capability should last for two years.

google is expected to make the announcement at the google event today at 9 a-m. >>darya:the national transportation safety board says the nose gear of southwest airlines flight 3- 45 collapsed backward and into the body of the aircraft after a hard landing at laguardia airport in new york. these are new pictures released by the n-t-s-b on twitter. the agency says the plane skidded 2,175 feet before coming to a stop on the edge of the runway on monday. the landing gear went into the fuselage with only the right axle still attached. and here's new video of the crippled southwest airlines plane being towed into a hanger at new york's laguardia airport. investigators recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders yesterday. they'll be analyzed by the n-t-s-b.

sixteen passengers suffered minor injuries. the plane was coming from nashville, tennessee. southwest is reaching out to passengers from the flight to apologize for the incident and any inconvenience it caused. the company refunded all of the passengers' air fare and sent them travel vouchers. today marks two weeks since toddler daphne webb was reported missing from oakland. the father of the 21- month-old john webb says she was taken from a car outside a supermarket on july 10th. webb was arrested for child endangerment but was later released and the charges were dropped. then on july 17th family and friends gathered for a

to get you more news faster, kron 4 solo reporter mike pelton is live at the scene. mike. mike >>: it appears the suspect turned their attention to the front window with a finally gained entry. the owner tells me the suspect took seven guns before eventually getting caught. five handguns and two rifles. here's some video from earlier this morning bridge you can see glass all over the place from the shattered window. the suspect also broke through a heavy metal security gate. thanks to his security system the owners as police arrived quickly and shut up as the suspect left in a car. he said the suspect tossed some of the guns out the window before police and eventually took all three of them into custody. >>: it can happen to anybody, any business at any time. but because of our sophisticated system that were apprehended. and they

interstate or the last 2 mi., anywhere you slice it, as you said, it is the second largest interstate and the entire country stretching from california to new jersey over 2,900 mi.. as you were saying today, if you drive that's along that corridor today or the next eight days you will see a lot more black and white out on the rolls because of what they called the high 80 challenge. this is increased enforcement promoting safe driving. this it during the summer months and that is when more people are on the road. they said there are a lot of fatalities on this road anyway. in fact they say once that happens every eight days on interstate 80 in california and that is what they are trying to prevent. because of that, they are promoting safe driving. they're going to be looking for people who are speeding, cboe the fractions, distracted drivers and obviously be wise. we had a chance to talk with the chp here yesterday and he describes the by 80 challenge.

hundreds of thousands of baby einstein jumpers are being recalled. the consumer product safety commission says it has received reports of 61 injuries involving baby einstein 'musical motion activity jumpers' made before november 2011. the agency says people suffered bruises and lacerations when the yellow hot sun attached to the jumper snapped backwards.
