around the bay shows warmer weather continuing into tomorrow although temperatures will drop off. most locations will be above freezing. we will continue with mostly sunny skies as we head into wednesday morning but the afternoon will see the clouds increase. >> as for travel or around the bay we have a few majominor incidents. you are good to go if you are taking the bay bridge. the traffic is slow from all of the hour approaches. the san mateo bridges and very good shape. .as we take it over to the traffic maps south bond 880 in oakland there is an

accident involving two vehicles. a tow truck is headed to the scene. we're seeing the first signs of slowing, the yellow was indicating the speeds up 35 to 40 mi. per hour. certainly allow yourself extra time. this should be cleared shortly. >> the 13 year old girl who went into oakland's children's hosptial to get her tonsils out. is now on kron4's maureen kelly spoke to the girl's family - still grappling with how a routine surgery could take such a terrible turn. >> i love my daughter. she does not deserve this. >> her mother choked back tears as she described what happened to her daughter. you can see the 13 year-old in this picture when her

hospital gown. she had had surgery to remove her tonsils. her family stated that after the family she seemed fine but later when they returned, something was wrong. >> she was spitting up blood. i asked the doctor is this was normal. they told me yes, the blood was so much that it's started coming out of hurt nose. it was all over hurt clothes and her face. >> her grandmother who is a surgical nurse came out to help and she stated that the blood just kept coming and 2 1/2 hours later, the teenager went into cardiac arrest. >> there is no way that this could be happening. the next thing that i knew--everyone is running around crazy. i

did not understand why it had to go to this point. >> the family stated that she was brain dead. the hospital stated that they are sad that this has happened to her. they stated that this case is under review. they stated at this point they do not know and that a surgery could appear routine but it may be a complicating factor is that they did not know about. >> the family is left to struggle with what they have to do. they stated that their rush to take her off a life-support. >> i believe in god, i believe that he can occur up. >> this is a decision that they would have to make with their doctor but as far, they have not made that decision. >> they stated that will

keeper on life-support as long as she has a topopulse, >> 16-year-old clifton chatman has been identified as the person killed in the francisco. another man in his late teens or early twenties is police say they are looking into the possiblity that this was a robbery gone wrong. police say it's unclear if chatman and the other shooting victim were together or even knew each other. no suspects have been arrested. this area is known for gang- activity and police have surveillance cameras monitoring the area. so.it's possible that the shooting was caught on video. if you saw anything, call police immediately. >> a 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded near the geysers in sonoma county last night. the u.s. geological survey says it happened around 9:55 about 2 miles east

of the geysers. earthquake had a depth of >> today the u-s chemical safety board will present a stemming from last year's fire at the chevron refinery in richmond. the report is expected to propose recommendations for substantial changes. to the way refineries are regulated in california -- making the rules similar to those in the u-k, norway and australia. that fire forced 15- thousand people to get medical treatment. and it shut down one of the major crude oil units on the west coast for months. the city of richmond has damages from the fire. >> bart management and its two largest unions will continue contract talks today. they started negotiations on thursday over one clause in the labor contract. that is causing a major snag. the unions have already voted to ratify the contract, but bart management says the paid family leave act was

>> welcome back. boston area residents were hit with snow over the weekend. logan international airport says they picked up a little more than three inches of the white stuff on staurday. the city was expected to get up to six inches before a fast-moving-storm left yesterday. forecasters say residents can now expect the fresh powder to melt as rain moves into the area. >> some new york state residents welcomed in the holiday season with the sound of snow blowers this weekend. residents broke out the snow blowers as more than a foot of snow piled up between friday and sunday.

kill people. >> a friend of the gunman stated that he was a good person. >> what he assumed turned out to be much more. >> whenever he became angry, he would say that he just wants to cheshot people. he had threatened that he wanted to shoot the teacher. he felt like he had ruined his chances for college and his future. >> he stated that he was looking for him on friday and he could not find him so he shot a 17 year-old girl that he did not know, then he killed himself. the girl is still in critical condition but and,. classmates offered their prayers for davis. they even

did a candle light vigil. some who knew pearson stated that they saw red flags and they're not sure how this could have been prevented. >> this are all accounts, did not exhibit warning signs of mental illness. the school administration is trying to put this as a place of education. >> an ohio man suspected of killing a 9-year-old neighbor over the weekend is set to make his first court appearance monday. twenty-four-year-old jerrod metsker is accused in the disappeared saturday evening while playing outside in the smithville mobile home park where she lived. her body was found in a trash bin a few hours later. >> authorities in new jersey are looking for two men who carjacked a couple at the mall at short hills sunday

night, and shot the man in the head, critically wounding him. authorities say the husband and wife had just finished shopping when they were approached in the second floor of a mall parking deck. the carjackers took off in >> a man convicted of masterminding a fake navy veterans charity could spend the rest of his life in prison. the man who calls himself bobby thompson and who authorities say is harvard- trained attorney john donald cody, was convicted last month of stealing some $100 million. when he was arrested, authorities found fake ids and a suitcase with $980,000 in cash. prosecutors have asked that thompson be given 41 years in prison. he's 67 years old. >> california regulators have failed to collect half the fines levied on assisted living homes for improper care of elderly residents. payments often arrive late. u-t san diego reported the california department of social services has collected only half of the

2.9 million dollars in penalties it levied against facilities since july 2007. one reason is there is no penalty for late payment. the state says they have limited resources, and collecting penalties is not always at the top of their list. the maximum penalty for a violation is 150-dollars, even when a resident dies due to negligent care. >> an urban oil field blamed for causing chronic respiratory illnesses and nosebleeds in a south los angeles neighborhood will be modified. the los angeles times reports allenco energy co. plans to upgrade its air pollution control systems, inspect and repair tanks, and make other changes. the company voluntarily suspended operations in november at the request of california senator barbara boxer. since then pollution and reports of respiratory ailments have dropped. allenco is under investigation by multiple los angeles companies and agencies. the los angeles county

>> welcome back. developing story out of the east bay this morning, police are increasing patrols are on bart stations after a rash of robberies near uc berkeley. kron4 will tran is live at the ashby bart station with details. >> it is not just bart police, oakland, berkeley, and uc berkeley. it is just a team effort to make sure that this area is safe. three of more robberies were just in one week people were

just coming up, in one case, a man had his laptop stolen when someone came up to him and just slammed him in the back of of the head with that pistol. that was one of the incidents. so far, no fatalities it just minor injuries. but they still want to napa whoever this person or persons are. maybe several people might be involved and i had a chance to talk to the berkeley police department. >> these are just loaned pedestrians. thankfully, no one has been seriously hurt. it is very serious. by getting this information not you can see that bart police officers are just patient here and this is making people feel safer because bart stations,

damage in just minutes. >> this is the week before christmas and now more than two dozen people have been forced to leave their home. they're scrambling to find somewhere to sastay. officials stated that the fire started on the first floor. the fire was put out in 40 minutes but it still cost major damage. >> you cannot even walk-in because of the smoke. fire officials and stated that the water damaged left about 12 units uninhabitable. 31 people drop this building were affected. red cross was there to assist anyone but most people did have some were to go.
