of the east bay. a dramatic scene in san pablo ... where a police chase ends in a crash.( darya ) kron 4's lydia pantazas is live at the scene.lydia? chp was involved in a pursuit along i-80 around 3-34 a-m chp deemed the situation dangerous and shut the chase down. around 3-43 police received a call of an overturned car and a severed hydrant in the area of kirk lane and san pablo ave in the city of san pablo. chp

arrived on scene to find the car that was being sought in the pursuit. ( james ) thanks lydia. we will check back with you through out the morning. ( darya ) the san jose state university police department is seeking witnesses or survivors in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

luis venegas was arrested on march fifth and is currently at the santa clara county jail. venegas is a fourth year student at san jose state. he is charged with sexual assault... assault with the intent to commit sex crimes... false imprisonment and sexual battery. university police are working with three survivors... and all knew venegas. ( darya ) the university of california at berkeley police responded to an attempted robbery and an armed robbery this week. the attempted robbery sunday happened on hearst avenue when a man walking near euclid avenue was approached by a car with its lights off. three men jumped out of the car and attacked the victim. one attacker tried to grab the man's backpack but the victim was able to hold onto his bag and the attackers fled the scene. the victim was treated for minor injuries. campus police on then responded to a report of an armed robbery that happended monday in berkeley's people's park. an attacker took a kitchen knife and threatened the victim while stealing items.police said the victim and the attacker did know each

other... and the victim was not injured. ( james ) san francisco police officers will soon be able to use tasers. the san francisco police commission made the controversial decision back in november. they voted yesterday on a policy that will regulate how officers can use them. tasers can be used when someone has a weapon other than a firearm... with intent to hurt others. they can also be used if a person is violently resisting an arrest. san francisco officers could start using the tasers as early as december. ( james ) san leandro high school is closed today. the school was put on lockdown yesterday... after a threatening message was found in the boys' bathroom. someone wrote -- "i'm shooting the school tomorrow at one." school officials checked classrooms to make sure students were safe... before contacting parents. but as a precaution... classes are canceled today. ( james ) in morgan hill... a student is arrested for making violent threats at ann sobrato high school. the school district says a classmate found the threat -- on a hadnwritten note -- tuesday morning and turned it in to administrators.

police say students and teachers were ánot in danger. but they did arrest the student who made the threat. ( james ) police and the school district aren't sharing details about the nature of the threat. but they are encouraging parents to talk to their children... and they say áall threats will be taken seriously and prosecuted. ( darya ) the mother of a teen killed last year by two fremont police officers is filing a federal lawsuit. elena mondragon was pregnant when she was shot and killed a year ago. it happened in hayward... as officers were trying to arrest her boyfriend. he was wanted for multiple armed robberies. the family's attorney says

police used poor judgement... and didn't have to shoot. the two officers who fired at mondragon were recently cleared of any wrongdoing. ( darya ) the one-year anniversary of mondragon's death was yesterday. family and friends gathered in front of city hall in hayward. mondragon was inside a stolen car at the time of her death. fremont police were tracking her shot into the car... but they hit mondragon. ( darya ) the family did ask investigators to release all of their video of the shooting. of the shooting. but said there was no dash cam video of the incident... and a body camera worn by one of the officers wasn't turned on. ( james ) campus police in cupertino will now wear body cameras. foothill-de anza community college police received a grant for the cameras from the department of justice. they are the only college police department to get the 27-thousand dollar grant. the body cameras are expected

( james ) berkeley police arrest a peeping tom... after he was caught on home surveillance video. police say a woman caught pedro jacobo looking into her home. this happened on delaware street... near the north berkeley bart station. the woman bought cameras for her home... after she says she saw jacobo peeping earlier this month. police say he went back to her home on monday. jacobo now faces prowling and theft charges. not sure anyone would even feel comfortable visiting the facility .... considering what happened. the board of directors is looking into the failures in security protocols... that allowed a veteran to walk in with a gun and kill three people who work there and then himself. the gunman once lived there. right now... the people who live at pathway home are staying in hotels... until the future of the non- profit organization is figured out. ( james ) haley rekdahl is a residental clinican at the pathway home. she was with nine other people for a retirement celebration... when she says albert wong walked into the room. haley said she worked with albert wong a lot when he was a resident. when he walked into the room he called her out ... telling her she could leave. she waited in another building as the situation unfolded.

( darya ) the california department of public health is now warning people... not to eat recreationally harvested shellfish... in sonoma county. the agency put out the same warning last week in marin county. it covers oysters... clams... scallops and mussels. recent samples detected a toxin in the shellfish. one person was sent to the hospital in marin county after eating the shellfish. state- certified commercial shellfish are still safe to eat. peninsula... two men are behind bars -- accused of spraying gang related graffiti at more than a dozen locations in south san francisco. the arrest happened at estrada's meat market on linden avenue-- when police got reports of two men spraying graffiti. they arrested 28-year-old wolfgang lopez and 29-year-old ignacio contreras... during the investigation-- police found more than 15 nearby spots with freshly painted gang graffiti. ( james ) one of the five passengers killed in sunday's helicopter crash in new york was a former basketball player in stockton. tristan hill played for the san joaquin delta community college team between 2007 and 2009. his last season was a memorable one too... as the mustangs reached the state final four.

into homes wearing a ski mask... shine his flashlight into victims' eyes...tie them up... and rape them. he assaulted two people in fremont and two in san jose. he also assaulted 9 in contra costa county. the east area rapist could be 65 or 70 years old now. the f-b-i has the rapist's d-n- a... but they've never found a match. ( darya ) new this morning... a man is in custody after setting off an explosion in his garage in morgan hill. dennis fritsinger was mixing chemicals on monday and set off the loud explosion. police responded to the home and found what appeared to be laboratory chemicals in the garage. people living in the neighborhood were evacuated for 3 hours while the bomb squad searched his home. fitsinger was booked into the santa clara county jail for possessing and manufacturing a destructive device. ( james ) police are looking for a driver who hit a police officer... then drove away. it happened near the gene friend recreational center on 6th street in san

( darya ) good morning and thanks for joining us... i'm darya folsom.( james ) and i'm james fletcher. that breaking news we are following is out of oakland where two people have died after being pulled out of lake merritt. kron 4's will tran just got to the scene. will what do we know. ( will ) at approximately 4:15 am the communications section received a call from a citizen reporting there were two people who appeared to be drowning in lake merritt. oakland police officers and oakland fire department responded to the scene. it was reported that the first responders went into the lake attempting to rescue the victims. one male victim was located and first responders administered cpr, he was

transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.the female victim has been located and pronounced deceased at the scene. this is an on - going investigation. anyone with information is encouraged to contact the oakland police department homicide division at 510-238-3821.
