(steve) chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us with more on what's happening all over the bay area. lawrence this storm is causing some major airports delays? lawrence karnow: the rain was on and off again and heavy at times. there are still showers showing up on doppler. we can expect showers tonight and it will be heavy at times. also the winds will get blustery as these storms move through. rainfall amounts will be high over the next couple of days. we could see 3 to 5 inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains, and 1 to 3 inches across parts of the rest of the bay area. on the satellite

new tonight at ten...the rain is being blamed for this crash in antioch.it happened just after 6:00 on east 18th near hargrove.according to contra costa fire...several vehicles were involved.a total of four people were taken to the hospital. two with moderate injuries, two with major injuries.you can see firefighters using the jaws of life to remove one person from the vehicle.authorities say they responded to several vehicles accidents in that

(grant) it's gone from bad to worse in austin texas. the state capitol....and surrounding region...paraly zed...by a region...paraly zed...by a series of package bomb explosions. but a possible blast reported just tonight night... turned out to be unrelated...according to police. tonight's blast injured a goodwill worker. kristen holmes is in austin with the latest. bryan jaimes/ fedex worker: "i was like what if i loaded up that truck? i mean that... it really does kind of get you kind of scare a little bit." federal investigators are now callling it the work of a serial bomber at least five explosions the latest package bomb happened late monday night at a fedex facility in schertz, texas... about an hour outside of austin. michael hansen/ schertz chief of police: "one employee that

was standing near the explosion later complained, complained of ringing in the ears... we were very fortunate that there were no injuries. two people have already been killed, several others injured in the previous attacks. the previous four package explosions all happened in the state capitol of austin. and it was there, that an additional suspiciouspackage, was found at another fedex facility tuesday, hours after the detonation in schertz. michael hansen/ schertz chief of police: "it's very early in the investigation, obviously, but we're confident that neither this facility nor any location in the schertz area was a target."more than 350 special agents from the fbi, atf, and forensics investigators from quantico, virginia have descended upon the area, hoping to find those responsible, and put an end to the attacks. rep. mike mccaul/ -r- texas: "hopefully finger prints and surveillance photos, and we can finally take him down. this is terrorizing the city of austin right now."in austin, i'm kristen holmes.

(grant) texas attorney general ken paxton spoke live on a different network tonight and said, law enforcement officials on the ground in austin tell him, the latest incident at the goodwill store is believed to be connected to the same bomber. so there is conflicting information tonight coming out of austin.. this is a story we will continue to follow tonight. (grant) back here in the bay... ross gordon laverty is accused of mailing at least one explosive device to a home in east palo alto. the person who got the package back in october....was suspicious... so he opened it in his back yard... it exploded...and he was injured but survived. laverty appeared in san francisco federal court recently...plea ding not guilty... he faces 20 years if convicted. (steve) the c-h-p is still searching for suspects in two freeway shootings. the latest incident happened just last night along interstate-580 in oakland..near edwards avenue.

and there was saturday evening's shooting on interstate-80 in hercules ....that left a woman and a five-year-old girl injured. chp says they do not have any suspects at this point and they are asking for the publics help if anyone has information.(sot) "i know it's scary, but there are tools to help you...like using your defensive driving skills."(steve) and if defensive driving skills dont' work... c-h-p says don't freak out....pull over... and call authorities for help. (steve)the c-h-p says... it has made an arrest in one of the latest freeway shootings.. an 18 -year-old man is charged with firing a pellet gun at another driver along interstate- 580 in san rafael, during the height of last night's commute. the highway patrol says, it was an apparent case of road rage. he's been identified as cristian torrez-perez... he

was pulled over at this san rafael gas station less than 4 hours after the incident. investigators say a pellet gun and ammunition was recovered in the car. torrez-perez was booked into county jail. (pam) car break-ins in san francisco have dropped significantly between the first two months of the year ... that's the claim from s-f- p-d.. the department says... police stepped up patrols to address the ongoing issue. between january and february, police say, numbers dropped by nearly one- third. kron 4's ali reid joins us live from san francisco, where auto burglaries are a big problem... some 30-thousand last year alone. ali, are police focusing on any one particular area? car break-ins are a serious problem in the city.not only are people that live here are afftected by it, tourists are also being warned before visiting san francisco.in 2017, the number of auto burglaries spiked 24-percent from the previous year.its a little concerning knowing theres so much crime around here but it's nice knowing that local police has feet on

(steve) we now know the name of two people killed... when their vehicle crashed into a tree in san jose. it happened friday on casselino drive.

authorities have identified the victims as 15-year-old isabelle gonzalz and 22-year-old brandon gomez hunsperger. there police say a honda accord was traveling ....when the driver... hunsperger...lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. both victims died at the scene. two other vicitms ...a man and a woman were in the car during the crash...but will both be ok. police believe pot and alcohol...played a role in the crash. (pam) united airlines says ... it is putting a stop to shipping unaccompanied pets on flights... at least for now. the policy change is effective immediately .. united is suspending its so-called "pet-safe" program ... where animals fly in cargo. but the airline will honor any reservations made through march 20th. this follows a string of mistakes .... and even deaths involving animals.including the little french bulldog which died last week after a flight attendant insisted it be put in the overhead bin.

(steve) and another airline is in hot water tonight-- after a mixup with a puppy. delta says a puppy is safely back home in idaho... after a flight mixup lead to a cross country trip. here is a picture of the 8 week old puppy. delta says the dog left richmond, virginia, and was due to fly into boise on saturday night. but there was a mixup somewhere in between. the owner actually received the wrong puppy at the airport in boise. the misplaced puppy was flown across the country to the wrong airport -- landing in las vegas and salt lake city before finally arriving to its owner on sunday. francisco today... ahead of the day he is granted a wish. and, that wish is to meet his favorite athlete -- stephen curry.(pam) kron four's philippe djegal was at the airport when the little boy and his excited family arrived ... (philippe) five and a half years ago... seven-year- old jonathan page was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder called methylmalonic acidemia. it prevents his body from properly digesting fats and proteins. it resulted in jonathan suffering a stroke and the deterioration of his motor functions. the disorder has a high mortality rate.loree page/mother- "there are kids that have lived in their thirties. there are kids who have, um, passed away at an early age. however, we're gonna take whatever god shows us. and, we're just going to live life to the fullest." and, loree oliver says the non-profit organization "dream on three," is helpoing to make that happen. by arrainging her son and the rest of her family to fly in to san francisco international airport... before meeting jonathan's favorite athlete

(steve) thousands of people are under evacuation orders as a powerful storm approaches southern california. these are photos from santa barbara county where as many as 30-thousand people have been ordered to leave their communities. the storm could bring up to 10 inches in the foothills and mountains. that's a concern for people living in communities already hit hard by january mudslides.

(pam) severe thunderstorms and tornado watches forced people to take shelter in sections of the south- eastern u-s. some isolated spots got hit very hard.. and crews had plenty of downed trees to deal with today.. reporter andrew spencer takes a look at the damage. the hail was ruthless in cullman county, alabama. you can see where massive hailstones pelted windshields -- the cracks spidering through the glass. the hoods of cars covered in dents like golf balls, having been struck repeatedly by hail the size of your fist......one crashing through the sunroof of this s-u-v and leaving shattered glass on the seats.outside the cullman county detention center: more signs of damage -- rear windows busted out,

side mirrors torn off, and more dented hoods and shattered windshields.a man in falkville, alabama, captured video of what appeared to be a tornado -- one of several reported in alabama and georgia.much of the damage through alabama could be seen before the sun went down, monday. tore apart the signs of many businesses in russellville......and damaged a number of homes in ardmore, leaving heavy damage in spots but leaving other areas mostly unscathed.the toppled concrete blocks of a wall wrecked outside alabama's jacksonville state university are a sign of the damage at pete mathews coliseum, where officials say the roof was heavily damaged. possible tornadoes and otherwise strong winds struck in parts of tennessee, georgia, and alabama. in many spots, crews worked in the overnight hours to clear trees out of major roadways....and where trees downed power lines, many lost electricity as well.i'm andrew spencer, reporting (steve) (steve) also in national news: a school resource officer is being praised for stopping a shooting at a high school in maryland today. authorities say a 17-year-old student shot and wounded two other students before the officer engaged him.now investigators want to know what led to the shooting. c-n-n's brian todd reports.

nat sound:it's believed to have lasted for less than a minutenat sound:a 17 year old student opened fire in the hallway of the school just before eight a-m.sheriff timothy cameron:"today at approximately 7:55am great mills high school student austin wyatt rollins- age 17- produced a handgun while in hallway f in great mills high school and shot a great mills high school student- a female, who was 16 and a great mills high school student, a male who was 14."authorities say austin rollins shot the female student before engaging in a round of gunfire with the school resource officer blaine gaskill. officials say it's not clear whether rollins was killed by gaskill's shot or if he committed suicide. sheriff timothy cameron:"dfc blaine gaskill fired at the shooter, and what is described to me is almost simultaneously the shooter fired."the sheriff's office tells cnn that gaskill- a current swat officer- was just assigned to great mills high school last august. tonight, investigators are looking into the relationship between the shooter and the female victim as a possible

motive- sheriff timothy cameron:"there is an indication that a prior relationship existed between the shooter and the female victim. we are working as we speak to determine if that was and if so the extent of that and if it was part of the motive for this shooting." last week students at great mills high school walked out of class as part of a nationwide, student-led protest against school violence.student:"we just had a walk out just a week ago about gun violence. we're just trying to make sure that we don't have to deal with this and we're dealing with this a week later." brian todd: "officials tell us so far they have not discovered any previous warning signs, any signs of disturbing behavior on the student's social media accounts, on his phone, on his computer, or in his car. but they tell us they are still combing through all of that evidence. we are told the shooter's family is cooperating with investigators. brian todd, cnn, great mills, maryland."

(pam) in parkland, florida: a former neighbor of the florida high school shooter ... is speaking out tonight about how she tried warning police about - nikolas cruz. rocxanne deschamps says, just before nikolas cruz's mother ... lynda cruz... died in november... deschamps promised to take care of the 19-year-old. however... she says, cruz has mental issues and obsessions with weapons. deschamps begged cruz to get help ... but he refused. her calls to police about suspects' behavior resulted in no action. (sot) (pam) cruz eventually moved in with another family... before the february 14th florida school shooting... where 17 people were killed. mistakenly killed by one of his officers.justine damond was shot by officer mohammed noor in 20-17, after she reported a possible sexual assault in her neighborhood. the chief spoke earlier today.i want to say i am sorry. i know that those three words will not bring justine back, but i want you to know that i am deeply saddened and truly sorry for her death and for your tragic loss (grant)officer noor's partner... said damond spooked them... when she appeared in front of their cruiser as they responded to the report. but prosecutors say officer noor had no reason to use deadly force in that situation. damond's family members, who live in the u-s and australia, said the charges against the officer.... bring the case one step closer to justice. north beach fire on saturday night. (steve) today he said, it was inappropriate for him to raise his concerns at the scene of the fire. the fire. fire officials released a statement yesterday... outlining their efforts to contain the fire. crews say, once they knew nobody was inside, they fought the fire from outside ... because it was too dangerous for firefighters to be inside the building. a preliminary investigation has determined that the cause was accidental. the building that burned... on columbus and union... was made up of 28 -vacant apartments and six businesses. (pam) tonight: a 12-year-old boy is still in a south carolina hospital after his leg was trapped in the suction line of a lazy river pool ... and was under the water for at least 10- minutes. marissa tansino talked with the women who was the first to jump in the water to help. "when i jumped in the water to try and pull him out, his lips were already blue." tiffany perez says she and a man who

attempted to help her pull the boy out of the water were unable to free him after she says his left leg was stuck in a suction line.north myrtle beach spokesman pat dowling says a three foot by three foot grate covering a suction line part of the lazy river had been removed, and the boy's leg was sucked into the six-inch line, holding him underwater,tiffany perez:"the maintenance worker told me that he shut the pumps off but it does not happen right away so it takes a while for the system to actually shut down." perez says first responders got to the scene moments later and they worked fast.within about a minute she says they pulled the boy out, his leg blue and purple.tiffany perez: "the gentleman that helped me, his wife, she ran upstairs to the front desk with their one year old to get help and she actually called 911 also. and i was trying to look after her kids as well, and trying to keep them - so i was absolutely terrified." ted hucks, presidents at hucks pool company, says grates are used as protection to help prevent someone from getting stuck underwater.ted hucks: "the grates are designed so that the flow rate doesn't exceed one and a half feet per second so that it can't hold a person's body to the floor of the pool."tiffany perez. "i did what i could do. it still doesn't feel like it was enough. it really doesn't. i still, all night i haven't slept because i feel like

there's something more i could've done."i also reached out to avista resort. jim eggen, a representative for avista, says the resort can't comment at this time, but he says it's sad what happened and they just want to help the family. (steve) researchers say male birth control pills are moving closer to becoming a reality. the results of the study were presented at the annual endocrine society meeting in chicago. researchers said a proposed hormone pill could reduce testosterone and other hormone levels responsible for sperm production without causing any serious side effects. a safe and effective male birth control bill has been a longtime goal in medicine. but for decades, such pills have been exclusively used by

women. researchers said the sample size for this study was small, so there would need to more research to assess any potential side effects. vistasin fact they has just cleaned up the garden the day before and more trash was beginning to pile up so they are cleaning it up again we found needles and saturday we found knives in here but it's not just an issues of dumping trash people are putting the snag on the plants . in this case someone stole most of this cactus over across the street all that is left is a hole where someone dug another plant up .. and get this see the please be respectful sign they started out with 8 signs the signs are gone but not forgotten they have been popping up around the neighborhood so we have some suspicions that they have been stolen and people are putting them in their yards and yes people have been letting their dogs do what dogs do bestthe city installed a garbage can in hopes that people will stop trashing the garden but people are still tossing litter into the garden and get this even buses are driving up over the curb and crushing the plants (sound of bus passing by) we would like people to understand that this is all volunteer labor in layman's term don't trash the community garden and don't trample the poppies and don't steal the plants right here you can see where it was chopped down we think that some publicity and some shaming can help the situation
