(vicki) another big story we're following tonight,.. a powerful spring storm is about to drench the bay area.... and it is one the strongest storms we have seen in years... as we take this live look at storm tracker four showing you areas already seeing rain....(vicki) this storm is fueled by a so- called "atmospheric river"... also called a pineapple express.. (steve) and tonight we have team coverage as we track this powerful storm... kron4's charles clifford is in the north bay monitoring flood concerns in the firestorm burn areas... and kron4's hermela aregawi is in the east bay seeing how the downpours will affect the roads. but first we start with chief meteorologist lawrence karnow he is tracking the timing of the storm. lawrence karnow: showers have started and we are getting ready for heavy rain. doppler radar is showing the rain
picking up now. but it won't become heavy until after midnight. flood watches have now been posted for the north bay mountains and valleys as well as the santa cruz mountains. we could see as much as 4 to 6 inches of rain with some isolated amounts as high as 8 inches. the major rivers are not forecast to flood but we will see some of the smaller creeks and streams rise rapidly and flooding is possible. the commute will be bad with heavy rain and ponding on the roads. it looks bad all day but worst in the morning. showers will turn to heavy rain tonight and tomorrow morning. rain will continue all day. it will become heavy again late on friday night into early saturday morning. there is a chance of thunderstorms too with the tropical air. highs tomorrow will be very mild and in the 60s. sunday should be dry with mostly sunny skies. there is a chance of showers again on tuesday and thursday.
(vicki) and with all of the rain headed to the bay area-- there are concerns of flooding in the north bay firestorm burn areas. kron 4's charles clifford is live in santa rosa with the details... charles? well, it's been raining all afternoon here in the north bay. not heavy rain but it's picking up as we head into the evening hours. of course, with signifigant rainfall expected over the next 24- 48 hours there's concern about mudsldies and flooding in teh burn zones from last fall's fires. lets' look at some video.earlier today, crews were out in the burn zones. . including coffey park. . cleaning out gutters, checking burms and doing what they could to ensure that water
keeps flowing. with a lot of vegetation burned away by the fires, the worry is that heavy rain could create mudslides or flooding as that rain runs on the surface rather than being soaked up. now, emergency crews here in santa rosa are also getting ready for the storm. the santa rosa fire department has their water rescue equipment on standby and they have extra staff on standby.also, officials are asking that anyone who lives in or near one the burn zones to keep their cell phones charged and on tonight and while this storm passes through. also, pay attention to media weather reports and nixle updates. santa rosa fire and other agenices here in sonoma county will be sending out alerts if need by. in santa rosa, charles clifford kron 4 news.

(vicki) kron 4's rob fladeboe spoke to the suspect's father today about what may have went wrong. plain clothes detectives were going door to door thursday in search of surveillance video that might provide some clues about the burglary on tuesday of a home here on husted avenue the owner of that home confirmed that his son, 44 year -old dustin hamilton was the burglar and that he stole two weapons, a long gun and a handgun. he also left a threatening note behind.sgt. enrique garcia/san jose police "....he made a threat, we believe it is a credible threat because he obviously has those guns in his possession to carry out that threat..."dustin "dusty" hamilton, shown here in a high school graduation photo, along side a his recent mug shot, has been battling a drug problem and living on the streets of san francisco, says his father. he says the hand-written note was ten pages long and turned over to

(steve) new details are emerging in the investigation into's tuesday's deadly shooting at youtube headquarters in san bruno. we are learning more about how the shooter - nasim aghdam ... got her gun. san bruno police say, aghdam legally purchased the weapon from a gun shop in san diego... back on january 6th. it was a nine- millimeter smith and wesson similar to this one. police say, it is the same gun she used to open fire on tuesday.. shooting several rounds .. before reloading another
magazine. she then kept firing before turning the gun on herself. the 36- year old man, who was critically injured during the shooting, is the only victim still in the hospital. his condition has been upgraded to fair. (vicki) just four percent of active shooter situations in the u-s are committed by women. that's according to the fbi. kron 4 reporter michelle kingston talked a psychologist about why it's so rare to see a woman behind the gun. shootings like the one we saw at youtube headquarters tuesday are often done by men ... not women.dr. brenda wade, relationship expert psychologist"little boys love to play with guns, not so much little girls. it's just part of a masculine persona and a masculine culture."nasim aghdam -- the woman behind this week's shooting in san bruno was upset with the company ... and its believed áthat was the motive behind the act that hospitalized three people.wade"they tend to look for the target that they feel was the source of pain." aghdam is one of very few women behind active shootings

three missing hart children .. has been suspended... this comes despite a cell phone being found near the crash site where sarah and jennifer hart's s-u-v plunged off a cliff. heavy rain is expected in the area over the next few days. the bodies of both sarah and jennifer, and their other three children, were discovered on march 26. authorities say the two were being investigated in the state of washington for child neglect. authorities believe the crash was intentional. (steve) ex-49er and raider aldon smith was arraigned in san francisco today. this after smith failed to show up to his arraignment last week. the former n-f-l player violated a restraining order that prevented him from contacting the victim in a domestice violence case. smith will be placed with an ankle monitor and secure continuous remote alcohol monitor (or scram), which detects alcohol consumption through sweat. the judge warned smith to refrain from contacting the victim in the case, and to to stay away from the nob hill apartment building where the alleged incident took place. (vicki) so far officials say lake tahoe is almost at it's water capacity, which is a little above six-thousand feet. officials also say people living near the truckee river could expect to see water levels rise up to six feet. fire crews say they are ready to serve when the storm hits. (vicki) the family of the 19-year-old man killed by police last month in san francisco continues to look for answers in his case. the family met with district attorney george gascon yesterday. a spokeswoman for the delgado-duarte's family says d-a discussed the
details and legalities of police shootings with them.... and that the family is focusing their efforts on state legislation introduced this week that would limit or restrict when officers can use lethal force. jesus adolfo delgado-duarte was killed on march sixth when officers responding to an alleged robbery found him hiding in the trunk of a car near capp and 21st streets. delgado- duarte allegedly shot at police, leading officers to open fire at him, shooting 99 rounds and connecting about 25 times. (vicki) the u-s military identified the four marines killed in a helicopter crash near el centro, california on tuesday. 28-year-old captain samuel schultz of huntington valley, pennsylvania joined the marine corps in may 2012. first lieutenant samuel phillips of pinehurst, north carolina was 27 years old and had been in the marines since august 2013. 33-year-old gunnery sergeant richard holley of dayton, ohio joined the marine corps in november 2003. lance corporal taylor conrad of baton rouge, louisiana was 24 years old. he joined the marine corps in may 2016. they were all aboard the helicopter when it departed at marine corps air ground combat center in twentynine palms,

(vicki) officials with yosemite national park are cancelling camping reservations this weekend due to a major expected storm. (vicki) the park along with surrounding areas that include roadways, campgrounds and other facilities will be impacted. a flood watch has been issued for the park starting friday night until sunday morning. park officials say any visitors looking for updates can find them on their main website. (steve) the department of water resources is monitoring the oroville dam.... as rain
begins to fall in northern california. officials are keeping a close eye on the partially rebuilt section of the spillway... this could be the first time it is used .... since its near collapse back in february last year. more than 180-thousand people were forced to evacuate .... when the dam's main spillway and emergency spillway failed. an airplane saved more than one hundred animals from a high-kill region in new mexico. (vicki) the dogs and cats were flown across state lines, where they will find new homes. reporter allison martinez has their journey. more than a hundred homeless animals are on their way to a new life. trysee wyche/animal rescuer "that's why our name is forgotten to forever because they are taken from their forgotten life whose owners didn't love them or left them in the shelter to die and we put them to their forever life." volunteers work tirelessly to rescue animals from the badly overcrowded shelters in southeastern new mexico. with more than 13- hundred euthanizations in roswell alone last year, these volunteers know they don't have a lot of time.today, they partnered with the dog is my co-pilot plane. to get death row dogs to colorado and utah where there isn't such a big

(vicki) conor mcgregor hs been arrested after a violent appearance at u-f-c's media day....(steve) mcgregor was throwing objects and breaking windows on a bus. one of the fighters inside the bus was injured. videos posted on social media showed mcgregor, at one point, lifting and carrying a barricade. mcgregor is not fighting this weekend -- he hasn't fought in the u-f-c since 2016. ...but he's upset that the u-f-c stripped him of the lightweight championship title this week. saturday's main event will determine a new champion in that weight-class. investigating this deadly shooting.from what witnesses tell us, the man that is dead tonight, was the passenger inside this black vehicle ..... opened the door and started running .police tell us, that suspect had an active felony warrant for illegal possession of a firearm, and had an additional warrant for a probation violation.at the time of the shooting undercover officers were on to the suspect .... who was armed at the time.authorities say several marked police cars responded to the area and tried stopping the suspect vehicle.when officers turned on their sirens and overhead lights, the driver complied and stopped here at the fremont boulevard and nicolet avenue intersection.that's when the suspect jumped out and started running towards the arco gas station.just before 7-o'clock, officers say the suspect pointed a gun at them, and that shots were fired.during the shootout, the suspect was struck and fell to the ground.
