( robin )in the east bay... a family is pleading to keep the woman who killed their granddaugters in jail. megan hogg was sentenced to 25 years to life in 19-99. she was convicted of killing her young daughters. at a

parole hearing earlier this month.. it was decided she would get out as early as next year. but her family tells kron 4's hermela aregawi.. they are fighting to keep her behind bars. they were two, three and seven years old..their family describes them as silly.. and happy little girls.damali ross/victims' aunti lost a part of myself when they passed away. it's so devastating and so hard to explain to have somebody that you love took from you so suddenly and violently. to have to think about their last moments it's devastating.in 1999, the girls' paternal grandmother found their bodies in the daly city home they shared. megan hogg was convicted of suffocating her daughters to death and sentenced 25 years to life. mary jolivette/victims' grandmother.our job is to

protect our children to fight for them and to have the mother take your own children, there are no words for that. who does that? you have so much against you in this world and then to have your own mother turn against you like that, no, no.hogg's attorney's argued she was diagnosed with depression two years earlier.. and is deemed mentaly ill.but her family says... there were no signs that she would be capable of harming her own daughters.mary jolivette/victims' grandmother. every time we saw them they were dressed, well-behaved well treated no scars or anything.damali ross/victims' aunti would not have called megan a bad mother before this. she never showed any signs. so she hid it well. i don't know what the explanation is.(hermela aregawi)the da is asking the parole board to re-review hogg's case.. and is arguing that she's had some serious violations in prison. and considering the nature of her crime.. she isn't ready to be released. reporting live in contra costa county hermela aregawi kron 4 news.

( robin )this morning we''re hearing from 49er star... reuben foster's ex girlfriend... elissa ennis.in a statement from from her attorney... ennis claims her injuries were the result of a fight with another woman and that foster never hit her. she says she initially lied to police because she was "extremely upset" -- and told foster if he broke up with her she'd trash his career..." foster was arraigned on domestic violence charges earlier this month after allegations that he battered his former girlfriend.

d-a's office on these new developments. however... the prosecutor says his office is prepared to move ahead with the case... even if the victim refuses to testify. ( robin )an apartment that was under construction and caught on fire tuesday... is partly demolished. crews started tearing the building down thursday morning... but by the end of the day... authorities announced they could not finish because they need more time. they plan on returning today. the apartment next door is now working with a remediation firm to air out the building... so the air quality can improve.

investigators did remove a couple of security cameras on the site in hopes that they will provide information into the cause of this fire. ( robin )for your health this morning... a confirmed hantavirus infection has prompted a public health warning in the bay area. it happened in santa cruz county... where one person caught an infection caused by hantavirus. hantavirus pulmonary syndrome... often known as h-p-s... is caused by a virus found in rodent urine... droppings... and saliva. people typically contract the infection when entering or cleaning buildings where rodents are present. any surfaces that may be contaminated should be wiped with a 10-percent bleach solution or commercial disinfectant before further cleaning. ( robin )it's the beginning of a new era. north and south korea's leaders... have declared an end to their war... and signed a peace treaty. it's the first time the leaders of the split koreas have met in more than a decade. john lorinc

professor sot they did a surveillance and they waited for him to discard something into the public domain once they did that they could take that item whether it was a beer can or a cigarette or whatever take it back to the lab and try and generate a profile from thatkron 4 news has confirmed investigators used dna from crime scenes and matched it to a relative of deanglo who was registered on a genealogy website.which is a place for example people send in saliva swabs to learn about their ancestory. and then narrowed it down to possible suspects, using that person's family history.bicka barlow sot just raised more questions for me as to how they did it and what type of technology they usedbicka

barlow is a bay area based forensic consultant and attorney.and tells me, this could be the first time law enforcement used commercial dna databases to catch a killer.bicka barlow sot i think there are serious privacy and legal questions that surround thisit appears detectives matched the dna from the crime scenes, to the internet, to an item deangelo possibly tossed in the trash. for victims families, the hope is the dna evidence will lead them to justice. daugther sot him it is a lock you can't hid from dnajustine the sacramento district attorney would not say which genealogy websites were involved. both "23 and me" and "ancestry", which ( robin )we continue with more details on the golden state killer... also known as the east area rapist. alameda county d-a... nancy o'malley... was part of the investigative team and says after years of hard work... they finally got him.

(philippe) a little rattled...lt. wayland gee/alameda police- "they were shaken up by it." and, still a bit stunned...lt. wayland gee/alameda police- "quite surprised by it." two waitresses who survived an attack and robbery tuesday night after work are not yet back on the job... but the restaurant manager says they will be soon. though neighbors in the area are concerned about a second violent incident happening within a span of two weeks.

francesca velasquez/lives and works in the area- "(philippe) do you walk alone out here by yourself? (francesca) i do, sometimes. but i shouldn't." the two victims... 59 and 62-years-old were walking to their parked cars on pacific avenue off webster street at around 10-15 that night... when they were jumped by four to six teenage boys... and, men in their early twenties.lt. wayland gee/alameda police- "the suspects then pushed the females down to the ground, struck one of them and took their purses." no arrests have been announced. just two weeks ago... a 61-year- old woman died from injuries sustained during an attempted robbery caught on video near another restaurant up the street from tuesday's robbery. lt. wayland gee/alameda police- "it does sound similar, um, and it occured in the same business district, uh, blocks away from each other, um, but our investigation does not indicate that the two are related whatsoever."ray delmore/neighbor- "the police here, i think, could step up a little bit more in their patrols." lieutenant gee says officers are paying closer attention to this part of town. in alameda, philippe djegal, kron four

the 80-year-old was on trial for drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand ... 14- years ago. she says bill cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her at his home in 2004.the comedian could face up to thirty- years in prison. ( robin ) bill cosby did not testify in court. after the guilty verdict... he had an outburst. as the terms of cosby's bail were being debated...the prosecution said cosby should await sentencing in jail because he is wealthy and has a private plane. at that point... the comedian shouted an obscenity at the district attorney... saying he did not have a private plane. more about the man of many names: golden state killer, the east area rapist and the original nightstalker.. in the 19-70's...deangelo was a police officer he worked in auburn near sacramento... but was fired after he shoplifted from a store. then deangelo spent most of his working life in roseville. for 27 years... he was a mechanic at the save mart grocery distribution center. he retired last year. save mart says it is cooperating with the investigation. ( robin )back in 19-81... he claimed the lives of a santa barbara woman and her boyfriend. reporter kay recede, talked to the daughter of that victim, from her texas home. cheri domingo had always been a nurturing loving mother to debbi... but debbi admits — as a teenager in 1981 — their relationship hit a rough patch... we spoke to her from her texas home through facebook(debbi domingo, mother was killed by east area rapist)'i just yelled at her, why donút you just stay out of my life? and i hung up the phone and i

( robin )we are learning the identity of a woman killed in a crash involving an unlicensed teenager driver. susan williams died in the collision. it happened on lakeville highway tuesday morning. police say... javier lopez was driving on the road when he crossed double yellow lines... and hit williams' car head on. williams was a marine biologist... and distinguished professor at u-c davis'

( robin )napa police have arrested a man wanted for exposing himself to minors. police say ronald fryer of napa was booked into jail yesterday. they've been investigating reports that a man was watching children walk to school around oran court. fryer was eventually arrested ans now faces indecent exposure charges. ( robin )in san mateo... a man has been arrested for exposing himself in the parking lot of a high school. it happened at hillsdale high school. police were called to the school tuesday - after a parent reported seeing a man in a car inappropriately touching himself. officers found and arrested 60- year-old benito diaz. ( robin )p-g-and e will pay nearly 100-million dollars in penalties tied to the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. the california public utilities commission unanimously approved the fine thursday. p-g-and e will pay six million dollars each... to

san bruno and san carlos. 12 million will go to the state's general fund. p-gand-e will also forgo 63 point five million in revenue it would have otherwise collected from its customers in 20-18 and 20- 19. the commission already fined the company more than one billion dollars over the 20-10 explosion that killed eight people. ( robin )a judge is allowing a free speech lawsuit against u-c berkeley to move forward. although she says there's no evidence the school discriminated against conservative speakers. this is video from past protests at the campus over the booking of conservative speakers. the lawsuit was filed last year after a scheduledcampus talk by ann coulter didn't happen... .. that was in the wake of violence before a scheduled talk by another conservative guest. ( robin )4 your money this morning... more bad news for wells fargo. the labor department has urged the bank's board of directors... to investigate its 401-k practices. in a recent filing, wells fargo said its board is investigating whether the bank made "inappropriate referrals or recommendations" to 401k plan participants. specifically.... the review is looking into "rollovers" of 401k plans into individual retirement accounts. that means yet another part of wells fargo is under scrutiny for potentially predatory practices and ripping off ( robin )starbucks says the arrests of two black men in philadelphia... so far have not hurt their sales. the company's c-e-o made the announcement during a conference call with analysts thursday. this after 2 african american men were arrested at starbucks when they refused to leave. starbucks said it would close all of the company-owned stores in the u-s for one

afternoon to provide racial bias training. the costs from protests and the may 29 training won't show up until next quarter. but johnson said the measures the company is taking "will pay long-term dividends for starbucks." the 49ers selected the number 9 draft pick during last night's 1st round of the n-f-l draft. the team chose mike mcglinchey. mcglinchey is the second offensive tackle from notre dame... taken in the top ten this year. he will join joe staley and new 49ers guard, weston richburg. this is the thrid time the 49ers have made a top ten ( robin )meanwhile, the raiders traded with arizona.... down from the 10th pick to the 15th.. .and they picked offensive tackle, kolton miller from u-c-l-a similar to the 49ers... the raiders are bolstering their offense line with miller. the former bruin is from roseville... near sacramento miller will compete for the starting job at right tackle. he's expected to become donald penn's replacement when the veteran left tackle retires. highway 237 in north san jose. when firefighters arrived on scene they found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames and very heavy smoke. firefighters were able to enter through the rear of the structure and they found the body of a 20-year old man who died in the fire. they were also looking for a 4-year-old girl but she was found safe at a relative's house. firefighters were able to bring this fire under control fairly quickly and keep it from spreading. reporting live in san jose, lydia pantazes kron4 news. afternoon in sacramento. joseph deangelo was arrested on tuesday. he's accused of killing 12-people and raping 50 women in the 1970's and early 80's. investigators say they used d-n-a from crime scenes and matched it to a distant relative of deanglo. that relative was registered on a genealogy website. their d-n-a was used to narrow down possible suspects. sacramento's district attorney would not say which websites were involved. both "23 and me" and "ancestry" -- which are bay area based -- denied having any connection to the case. ( james ) the man convicted of killing his girlfriend and putting her body in a suitcase will spend the next 25 years in prison. lee bell was sentenced yesterday for the murder of pearla louis. louis's body washed up along san francisco's embarcadero almost 8 years ago. bell's d-n-a was found on the suitcase. louis was last seen arguing with bell at a hotel where the two were staying. during the sentencing hearing... bell got the chance to speak to the louis family. he said he was "exceedingly sorry" that pearla died because of him. arrested for exposing himself in the parking lot of a high school. it happened at hillsdale high in san mateo. police were called to the school tuesday... after a parent saw a man in a car inappropriately touching himself. officers found and arrested 60-year-old benito diaz. ( darya ) a judge is allowing a free speech lawsuit against u-c berkeley to move forward. but she says there is áno evidence the school discriminated against conservative speakers. this is video from past protests at the campus over the booking of conservative speakers. the lawsuit was filed last year after a scheduled campus talk by ann coulter didn't happen. ( james ) the man who escaped a psychiatric hospital in hawaii and flew to san jose... is fit to stand trial. randall saito walked out of the hawaii state hospital in back in november... took a taxi to the airport... and boarded a plane to san jose. 3 days later... police arrested him in stockton.

set to begin next week on the golden gate bridge towers. officials will inspect the condition of the steel to determine if any repairs are needed. scaffolding is being installed on the sidewalks around the towers to protect pedestrians. the inspection work is expected to last a week with scaffolding being removed by may 11th.
