now revealing a possible motive behind a deadly shooting in mill valley. they've also identified the two victims as a father and daughter - and the gunman as a 71-year-old man who took his own life. good evening i'm grant lodes. (vicki) and i'm vicki liviakis. the daughter has died -- the father is hospitalized. investigators say the shooting was the result of a landlord- tenant dispute involving an eviction. kron 4's terisa estacio is live in mill valley tonight... with what we are learning about the victims. estacio reporting mill valley) we are learning the father and daughter who live close by were here at the apartment complex to serve an eviction notice on a tenant. and when they go here, shots rang out (estacio) the daughter - has been identified as as sabrina elizabeth lew. her father, leonard lew age 84 remains hospitalized in intensive care. the gunman is victor lugo age 71. it was 3:44

thursday when dispathcers received a 911 call, that there has been shooting at 939 e. blithedale. the resident said two people had been shot emergency crews were there quickly, and ambluance took two victims to the hospital. a perimeter was set up and then swat team members forced their way into aparatment 5 and that is when the found the gunman, lugo dead with a self inflicted gunshot wound. today, residents say they are still numb about this crime in their neighborhood, and feel awful for the victims. sot/tc: megan merrill, neighbor. i came out and saw a man shot, and i saw authorities carrying a woman who was lifeless looking. it was really bad, i am sad to hear she died, she was only 30. sot/tc: pilar arnao, neighbor. it is very sad, my heart goes to the family. (grant) another big story we are following tonight-- the chief of police in gilroy messed up...and he may be in hot water... after his loaded gun, badge and laptop were stolen. kron four's rob fladeboe is live in gilroy...rob you talked to the chief...what's his explaination. (vicki) a world-renowned speed climber has been rescued from yosemite's el capitan. hans florine fell and had to spend the night on top of the famous rock-- and then posted about his rescue on social media. florine posted a photo of himself on instagram with the caption: "well, there is a rescue going on, on el capitan. and it's me. i think i broke my leg. rescuers please be safe." rescuers hauled florine to the summit of el capitan last night-- but it was too late for a helicopter to get him out. rescuers instead hiked to the top to give him medical treatment. helicopters treatment. helicopters arrived to take florine and his climbing partners off el capitan this morning. (anchor) time now to check on our weather... with chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. lawrence karnow: it was the warmest day of the week today with some temperatures moving into the 80s inland. it is a nice night if you're heading out. patchy fog will return tonight with a chance of drizzle near the coast. high clouds will also be on the inrease tonigh as high pressure begins to move eastward. on the satellite you can see the clouds off the coast. those will move into our skies late tonight and tomorrow. we won't see any rain from these clouds but we'll likely have cooler temperatures. highs tomorrow will be in the 60s around the bay, low to mid 70s inland, and 50s and 60s at the coast. we will see a little more sunshine on sunday with mild to warm temperatures. it will begin to warm again on monday before cooling down again toward the middle of next week.

(grant) breaking news... former president george h.w. bush has been released from the hospital. he spent 13 days recovering from an infection that spread to his blood. a family spokesman says the 93-year-old bush was released today from the houston hospital. he was hospitalized just a day after he attended the funeral of his 92-year-old wife, barbara. bush has a form of parkinson's disease along with a history of pneumonia and other infections. (grant) new at five.... former president, barack obama, is endorsing u-s senator dianne feinstein for re-election this fall. in a statement released today, obama calls feinstein quote "one of america's most effective champions for progress." the two have fought for affordable health care, gun safety and slowing climate change. feinstein, who calls san francisco home, is seeking her fifth full term in washington. the 84 year old faces a challenge from state senator kevin de leon. the primary election will

(vicki) president trump is once again calling for training teachers who volunteer to carry concealed weapons on school property.the president says it's just one of several ways to protect america's classrooms. reporter mark meredith is in washington with more. nat of the event president trump told supporters at a n-r-a convention in dallas that he's committed to protecting the second admendment. looking for more victims. kron 4's sara stinson has the story. ... "this all came to light after a 16-year-old girl reported that an employee here at fantasa performance and art center sexually assaulted her several years ago when she used to attend the after school program here. detectives then discovered she wasn't the only victim. " captain: "from the courage of this one victim we were able to find a few other victims." milipitas police say they now have four additional cases all involving raymond chen - all young girls who previously attended the center."you know these are those incidents where it's a parents worst nightmare, but again the victim had a lot of strength to come forward."on april 21st chen was arrested and booked into the santa clara county jail."i think the community is much safer with him behind bars and i don't think he will be getting out anytime soon." now this investigation is ongoing as milpitas police officers believe there could be more victims."the reason this case is still ongoing is we are seeing if there are any outstanding victims that will come forward after this."

(vicki) also in the south bay.. palo alto police are asking for the public's help identifying a man who broke into a home. a woman says the thief entered through her sliding glass door while she was out running errands. when she got home she realized her jewelery safe and suitcase were gone. she reviewed her home surveillance video and saw this man. officers reviewed the footage and say the man knocked on the front door before moving to the backyard. police warn this is a common technique for burglars. (grant) in the east bay... chevron has agreed to pay the city of richmond 5 million dollars. the settlement is a result of a crude unit fire that happened back in 2012. this is video back in 2012. this is video from that fire. thousands of people were sent to the hospital because of toxic smoke. the city of richmond will use the 5- million dollars to improve public safety... education...

(vicki) in the north bay... police say they have arrested a suspect wanted in a marijuana related home invasion this week. the robbery happened wednesday morning at a home in santa rosa. police say two men tied up the victims.. held them at gunpoint... and took a large amount of marijuana. detectives arrested florida resident, ruben hernandez, in oakland with a minivan described in the robbery. hernandez posted bond and was released yesterday. police are still looking for the second suspect. (grant) on the peninsula... there has been a string of car burglaries in san mateo. half a dozen cars on ottawa street had broken windows. its not just on one side of town... 14 cars were burglarized throughout san mateo one night about a week ago. police have increased patorls in neighborhoods. since then they've made several arrests. lawrence karnow: it was the warmest day of the week today with some temperatures moving

(grant) a paroled sex offender who led police on a wild 3-hour motor home chase in southern california tuesday...with an infant and toddler in the r-v... is in custody..(vicki) and we're learning more about how he managed to avoid arrest for two more days.. catherine heenan is here with the latest... (catherine) it's not every day you see a police chase involving a motor home...but this was the scene in los angeles county this week... what's even more surprising is the fact that stephen houk (howk) was 'not' caught that day. he eventually drove into an orchard, got out and ran off...leaving two children inside the r-v - who are ok. he's now telling police that he then

ran on foot for three more hours...shaved his beard...and hopped on a freight train. while on the run he also managed to get a meal...and even a nap at a library. eddie hernandez/los angeles county sheriff's department he got some rest, he found a nearby homeless shelter where he got some food. he got some information from the locals there that there was a train that left nightly from bakersfield towards arizona. he found the train yard, jumped in the train and was headed toward arizona. at least that's what he believed. howk was arrested yesterday in barstow -- after being found hiding in a rail car. he was on parole for felony sodomy of a child in oregon... deputies had initially tried to talk to him about a report thathe'd threatened a girlfriend. he now faces a string of new charges including kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. his bail has been set at a million dollars.

(vicki) a southern california grocery store is getting sued after implementing a no-spanish language policy. federal officials say an albertson's in san diego created a hostile work environment for hispanic employees. the u-s equal employment opportunity commission filed the lawsuit yesterday claiming store managers publicly punished employees caught speaking spanish. the suit also claims employees were not allowed to speak spanish during breaks or when helping spanish-speaking customers. albertson's has not released a statement. (vicki) nearly 90-thousand hondurans who have called the u-s home for at least two decades could be forced to leave the country. that's because the trump administration announced today that it would end protections for those immigrants. those protections have been around since hurricane mitch devastated parts of honduras back in 19-98. u-s citizenship and immigration services says those affected by the decision have 18 months to either leave the u-s or make other arrangement to stay -- provided they qualify for visas some other way.

(grant) the u.s. economy continued to add jobs last month, and the unemployment rate is now at its lowest level in 17 years. but there are a few warning signs in today''s jobs report from the labor department. karin caifa looks at which areas are hottest for hiring, and the numbers that may give wall street pause. president trump friday morning touting an economy that continues to add jobs, and an unemployment rate now below four percent.president donald trump: i thought the jobs report was very good. the big thing to me was cracking four. that hasn't been done in a long time. the labor department said the u.s. economy added 164,000 jobs in april, a little bit less growth than economists expected but better than march. employers have now added jobs every month since october 2010, steadily bringing down the u.s. unemployment rate from 9.4- percent at the start of that streak, to 3.9-percent in april -- the lowest level since december of 2000.wall street is still eyeing a few numbers cautiously.hourly wages are still sluggish, ticking up just four cents last month but that slow

(grant) placer county sheriffs were called to action yesterday after a bear was found inside a home.(vicki) the homeowners say they found a bear relaxing in their kitchen, happily helping himself to tasty treats. the discovery happened at a north lake tahoe home. the bear was in the middle of chowing down some fruit and bread when officers arrived. sheriff's deputies were able to safely chase the bear out of the house with no injuries or property damage. they are warning people in bear country that this is the time of year when bears come out of hibernation and are often very hungry. advocacy group has a stern warning for parents -- stop 'oversharing' intimate photos of your young children. the group says, pictures of things that might seem cute to you -- could fall into the wrong hands on social media.. catherine heenan is here with the story.
