kron 4's ali reid joins us live from san ramon valley high where the vigil is about to start. ali? a large crowd is expected at tonight's vigil, so it will be held in the school's football field.students, friends and people from the community are starting to gather here at the school.also, the memorial in front of the pool where ben curry drowned ...continues to grow.he was found at the bottom of the deep end yesterday afternoon.friends say the 15 year old was kind, and funny. he also loved sports and was an avid basketball player.friends have been dedicating sneakers to the teen.the cause of death is still formally underinvestiga tion. however a suicide prevention hotline number is posted on his memorial.a family friend and classmates are trying to process the freshman's untimely death.sot sotsota friend of the family

sheriff's office"he said that he did not feel safe and that he felt it was in his best interest to carry a gun while operating a bus."stephen williams has worked for ac transit for more than a decade ...and told his supervisor on tuesday he did not feel safe and would be taking a gun on his bus.investigators say his supervisor immediately called police -- who arrested williams at the bayfair bart station in san leandro around 3 in the afternoon on tuesday. ray kelly, alameda county sheriff's office"we understand people have reasonings for doing what they do but in this case, it's illegal and we cannot have bus drivers carrying loaded firearms on them."williams was carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun and was charged with a misdemeanor.we asked his union -- local 192 -- why he might've felt the need to carry a weapon.they tell us they're unsure and have been trying to contact him since the arrest.law enforcement say williams has no prior record and are also unaware of why williams felt he needed a gun while driving passengers on his bus.ray kelly, alameda county sheriff's office"this is an issue between ac transit union and their managment and it's not an issue we are interested

(pam) turning now to our four zone forecast...(ken) chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with a look at the conditions tonight. lawrence karnow: we enjoyed plenty of clouds and drizzle near the coast this morning. the afternoon turned mostly sunny all the way to the coast. tonight will be mostly clear early before a return of patchy fog and coastal drizzle. a high wind watch has been posted for this friday and saturday. we could see some winds gusting over the mountains as high as 55 mph. on the satellite image you can see a few clouds off the coast and high pressure ready to build in over the next few days. as high pressure builds in we can expect offshore winds to bring clear skies and warmer weather to the bay area. highs tomorrow will be warmer with 70s and low 80s inland, 60s and 70s around the bay and 50s and 60s but becoming mostly sunny at the coast. the warming trend will continue on friday and saturday with plenty of sunshine to the coast but occasionally gusty winds too. mother's day should be a little cooler but nice. there is a slight chance of showers toward the middle of next week.

(pam) to the east bay .... where fremont police are searching for a suspect in a violent robbery. it happened near alder avenue, near oak street, on tuesday. that is where police say... a man knocked a woman to the ground... then forcefully tried to rip her chain from her neck. the suspect then crouched down... and was able to take the chain before running off. police are now reviewing surveillance video.. to try and track down that suspect. (oncam) laptop thieves have struck again in the east bay... this time in el cerrito. last thursday, police say, two suspects were loitering outside a starbucks on san pablo avenue.... around 4-50 in the afternoon. when a person stood up to throw out their garbage... the two stole her mac book pro... and fled the store to a getaway car. right now, there is no description of the suspects. (ken) it's getting so tough for residents to find parking spots in certain un- incorporated areas of san mateo county... that officials are discussing a plan more common in big

cities....residential parking permits. kron4's maureen kelly reports. here you can see what's been driving some neighbors nuts. lots of cars crowding their streets....making it so people who live here have a hard time finding a spot.oh it's tough on the street it's almost impossible first thing in the morning and after five those who live here point to different reasons that are contributing factors to the lack of street parking.workers coming from out of the area to park here on this street in selby park neighborhood in the unincorpated area located between redwood city and atherton.and i see 1020, literally different cars parking and people walking down the street to the landscaping area and that's where they take off from there's a lot of people not does this block for the followingthe bay area's housing crunch also seems to be a contributor to the parking crunch.(joe lococo, san mateo public works dept) with house and getting more and more expensive it's not unusual for people to live in a single house that might be children who are staying adult children who are staying with their parents a long time so if you have more people living in a single house you have more cars the past the deputy director of the county's public works department says the idea of instituting a residential parking permit program has been brought up by

neighbors here....and in another area called menlo oaks south of atherthon. it could entail issuing two permits per household and limiting the number of hours those without the permits could park on the streets. but even those who agree parking is tough around here...aren't too happy about it. i have three cars so, shrug.this idea is very much in the planning stages....the department of public works plans to hold a study sessions with neighbors to talk about how the program might work next month.maureen kelly kron4 news coming up at eight..

people with kidney failure.. one person has died in california. (ken) a close encounter for one kayaker who came very close to a great white shark. kron4's rob fladeboe met the man and heard how he escaped danger and why there is no shark warning following the sighting. rob fladeboe/seacliff state beach :....it's rare to see a shark from the beach here at seacliff state beach but they are spotted all the time from the air and yesterday was no exception..."giancarlo thomae/fell into water near shark "...i saw him briefly, about 30 seconds before but i had no clue he was still there....""marine biologist giancarlo thomae was paddling his kayak near the cement ship on tuesday looking for sharks when he found one, getting a little closer then he had planned.giancarlo thomae "....my glasses fell off and i leaned over too far and off i went..."the scene was captured from a helicopter. thomae says thatdark shadow is a great white shark, about the same size as his10 foot kayack.

chris gularte/specialized helicopter "....this year they seem to be about one or two feet longer, they're obviously larger, there are more people in the water with the nicer weather so it's kind ofinteresting..."thought to be attracked to the area because of abundnt food, sharks are hard to see from the surface but from 500 feet overhead, there is no mistaking them. thomae showed me the jawbone of a shark he thinks is about the same size as the one he was smimming with on tuesday. he does not think he was in any danger, however... giancarlo thomae "....these juvenile sharks that have been hanging around the ship are primarily fish eaters, in fact, they're teeth are designed for that, so they are not generally after big mammalian prey, so they are not going to come up and take a bite out of a boat that's as big as they are. but if you know there are sharks in the area i would not recommend you just go out and try to paddle with them..."rob fladeboe "....there are no shark warning signs posted here because this was not considered an official sighting and it didn't occur close enough to shore to put anyone at risk. in aptos rob fladeboe kron 4 news

) new at eight.... an oklahoma mother worst nightmare almost came true, after a stray bullet hit her child's crib. it happened outside of moore, oklahoma, saturday afternoon. the stray bullet struck the 18-month-old's crib ... just centimeters from hitting baby - axel. andrea johnson says, she first heard a loud nose and started looking around the house to determine what it was. it was not until she went upstairs to check on her son ... that she found the wood splinters. worried her son may have swallowed wood, she looked around and found the bullet. andrea johnson/mother: "when i pulled his crib back is when i saw something on the ground bent down picked it up and realized it was a bullet and that's when i just absolutely lost it." police say,

the bullet traveled through an outside wall, then through the high ceiling area in the living room, through a second interior wall, and it was stopped by a bar in the baby's crib. police say, the bullet came from a high powered rifle.. they believe an intoxicated neighbor may be at fault. (pam) a south carolina school trip took an unexpected detour. kids were taken to a gun show... and some parents were outraged.(ken) the trip was for elementary school kids to take a look at what life would be like in middle school. but they ended up at an armory. and without their parents permission. one substitute teacher on the trip...captured photos of the incident. students being shown different types of guns.... one woman says her son was on the trip...and she was shocked by what he said next.

camera video, you can hear one of the airbnb guests stopped by rialto police joking about the neighbor who called 911. natsot/guest:"it's code black, there's too many black people in a white neighborhood."three of the four people leaving the airbnb were black.one of them the granddaughter of reggae legend bob marley. but police say it wasn't their race that raised suspicions of the neighbor.rather the fact that she didn't know the home was being used as an airbnb. you can hear her tell officers that. natsot/neighbor:"i wasn't being nosy, i was just being observant." interim chief mark king says there has been an uptick in property crime in that part of town, and he appreciates the neighbor reporting what she thought could have been a burglary. he hopes the body camera video shows that his officers treated the airbnb guests with respect, while they figured out the situation. chief mark king/rialto police :"because as you all know, we're experiencing a very extreme difficult time here in america with police community relations." he plummeted the equivalent of five stories. the 26 year old fractured his neck and back. but now he is walking again...something he wasn't sure would happen. caserta strongly denies these allegations but there are now calls for his resignation. according to reports, a personnell file for city council member dominc caserta.. who is also a high school teacher. . was sent to the staff at santa clara unified school district on monday. the file, which has since been removed, apparently showed that caserta has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct during his career as a teacher. several incidents allegedly involved innappropritate sexual behavior towards students.soti was quiet distrubed.the allegations have shocked santa clara mayor lisa gillmor. she has now asked the city attorney to provide options for dealing with problem and has scheduled a public meeting on the issue for next tuesday. sotto discuss these option we could take against council member caserta and also give him the opportunity to explain to the public and answer some of these allegations. if necessary we can take action such as asking him to resign.
