this morning... the wildfires burning all across california. so far hundreds of thousands of acres have burned. this morning we are tracking three of the biggest fires in the state. that includes the carr fire burning up near redding and the ferguson fire burning near yosemite. we are also tracking the mendocino complex fire burning in lake and mendocino counties. that fire has forced thousands of evacuations. and here is a closer look at where the mendocino complex fire is burning this morning. it is made up of two serparate fires. right now those

fires have combined to burn more than 68-thousand acres and crews are struggling to gain containment. several communities in lake and mendocino county have been evacuated. more than 10-thousand buildings are being threatened this morning. so far 7 homes have been destroyed. right now firefighters say they do not expect full contianment for at least another week. kron 4's j-r stone spoke with evacuees and has the latest on the fire. a large ploom of smoke and tall flames shooting into the air. this video was taken just two miles west of the lake county sheriff's office on martin street in lakeport. sot i can't believe this is happening. i guess the lord will have to just take care of this because i can't deal with it.lavonne moore is one of thousands of people who have been evacuated from their homes near both the river and the ranch fires. she's with her family at the evacuation center at lower lake high school but says it has been tough.sot today this has been

a long day and it has been real smokey and the ashes have been falling.the fire fight is still a very active one. on highway 175 between hopland and lakeport flames could be seen just off of the roadway on monday evening. smoke pouring onto the roadway at times. concerning news for evacuees who tried doing what they could before leaving their homes.sotbut despite the grim look of the smoke....those like lavonne are optimistic.sot ( robin ) that was j-r stone reporting. and this morning there is major progress being made battling deadly carr fire in shasta county. that fire has killed 6 people and burnded
4:06 am
more than 100-thousand acres. and now there are concerns that the weather could make things worse for firefighters in the coming days. scott mclean is in redding with the latest. chief roger moore, redding, ca police: "this is scary to us. this is something we haven't seen before in the city."the monstrous "carr fire"-- continues to leave a path of destruction in california's shasta county. it's one of more than a dozen fires burning across the state right now-- but this one is so large and the temperatures are so hot that it's creating its own weather system and can be seen from space!josh lister, family lost home in fire: "it looked like an atomic bomb went off. after the fact. we got a few pictures from friends, but it was a firestorm when we left." while crews are gaining ground-- they say they're dealing with the perfect recipe for the flames to spread erratically-- low humidity, high temperatures, and high winds.those gale- force winds are whipping up what crews describe as "fire tornadoes" that are destroying
4:07 am
everything in their path.don hoff, evacuated home: "i saw to the right of me that vortex and that fire moving and i told my daughter get home now let's leave. that one scares me."cullen kreider, redding fire deputy chief: "some of our guys lost their homes as well. probably half of our department was displaced."and while crews battle the flames on the fire lines-- local authorities are dealing with reports of looting in those abandoned areas.at least 3- thousand firefighters are fighting to control the blaze-- as the community shows its gratitude. ( robin ) a bay area shelter is stepping up to help an animal rescue organization shut down by the carr fire. walnut creek's animal rescue foundation has already taken in close to 40 dogs and cats. and they are preparing for 100 more to arrive. these are just some of the animals taken in. the puppies and kittens had been waiting to be adopted at the haven shelter south of redding... but as the carr fire erupted... the shelter started to become overwhelmed with strays fleeing the flames. which is when the animal rescue

foundation stepped in to help. ( robin ) the pets who arrived last week could be ready for adoption as soon as wednesday after they have been medically cleared. ( robin ) and this morning we are hearing hearing stories of fire victims escaping the flames with little more than the clothes on their back. but as kron 4's rob fladeboe tells us... a south bay woman is now doing what she can to help out. jamie bruck/organized fire relief effort "....the turnout is just amazing...."after reaching out to friends on facebook on saturday, jamie bruck quickly ran out of room at home and is now accepting fire relief donation donations here at a an office park at 910 bern court in san jose. she has done this before for people in need but this time it's personal. jamie bruck "...i have family that was
4:09 am
directly effected by the fire so i thought i'd get out there and help any way i could..." what's needed most says bruck are everyday supplies like toiletries, diapers and other baby needs, dog and cat food, sunblock, energyrinks and masks to help guard against all that smoke. bruck says her grandmother, whose home is lost to the fire, escaped with virtually nothing.jamie bruck/organized relief effort '...just the clothes on her back and a box of important papers. i assume most families had the same amount of time..."gold rush express donated the space for bruck to collect and store the donations. she says that many ofthe people dropping off donations also know someone affected by the wildfires burning across the state. ".....theres a lot of people in high need right now and we wanted to see what we could do
4:10 am
to help them..."on tuesday, bruck and her team will accept donations in pleasanton at 7506 rosedale court and at main street designs at 2196 fist street in livermore. they head north to deliver those donations to the redding area on wednesday. in san jose rob fladeboe kron4news. world come to ride the cable cars in san francisco... but sometimes people can cause them to get into accidents. kron 4's stanley roberts explains in this edition of people behaving badly. this is something you don't see too often, a cable car actually backing up (traffic sounds) so let me try to explain to you what's going on, you see on the ground is the yellow like and the words let go let go is not a metaphor. it's command for
4:41 am
the cable car operator you see at the corner of washington and mason there is a turn for the cable car but to make the turn the cable car has to build up speed to 9 and a half miles per hours so the cable car can coast around the corner because for that short distance if they don't reach that speed they can't make the turn and then the cable car has to be pushed you got that (naw man i want rolling awww man) during the coasting time the entire intersection goes from flashing red to solid red, which means everyone except the cable car must stop and remain stopped until the light goes back for flashing but that's not what happens this is ed cobean from the sfmta the issue that we have is that when the cable car is coming on mason to make the curb on to washington the autos have a tendency to blow the red light on a daily basis and this is our largest collision area
4:42 am
that we have on our cable car system this intersection has a problem with people not stopping, for example this cable car is coasting the intersection is solid red and apparently there is a big white truck also coasting through the same intersection instead of stopping but check out this tower tours bus, maybe some should have told the driver what flashing red light means catching people rolling through the red light rather solid or flashing red is pretty common but the try to make it safe what we've done is refresh the painting on all 4 sides of the crosswalk we made it brighter wider and the thought process behind that hopefully that the auto will see the crosswalks and stop short and maybe help them see the red lights at the intersection and it is working a little bit but maybe some ticket books will help a lot in san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news (robin) coming up on the
