( darya ) kron 4's sara stinson is live in with more on the attack ... and what bart plans to do to address rider safety. a new safety plan will be presented to bart board members tomorrow. this comes at a time where in the last month there has been several attacks on bart - some deadly - the most recent happened on the platform at the richmond

station. now police are looking for this man who they say assaulted a passenger causing serious injuries last saturday morning. we don't know anything about the victim at this time. bart police are now in emergency staffing mode - and the general manager wants to hire more officers to patrol bart stations. the increased police presence is a part bart general manager's proposed safety and security plan. bart officials want to focus on stations in san francisco and oakland where most of the crime occurs. retired bart police chief gary gee says hiring more officers might not be the answer to ending the violent crimes. sot: trt :19 "if passengers see officers on the train, they are going to feel safer but as far as the incidents that have occurred in the last few weeks, even having an officer at each of those stations and aboard the trains where these incidents occurred wouldn't necessarilyprevent those random acts of violence." some of the other features of the proposed safety and security plan includes making it harder to by pass fare gates, adding a second proof of payment team during evenings commute and installing platform emergency call boxes that connect directly to bart police. bart general manager grace crunican will present the plan to bart's board of directors tomorrow. in lafayette, sara stinson, kron4news ( sara )as the general manager of bart prepares to present a new safety plan to the board tomorrow.bart police are searching for a suspect in yet another assault this on the platform at the richmond station. take a look at the photo of a man police are looking for who they say assaulted a passenger serious

high in the atmosphere, but officials are predicting a change that will bring the smoke down to ground level in some spots. those walking around downtown livermore say, they have already noticed it. ( will ) people who smell smoke are advised to limit their outdoor exposure ... and remain inside with the doors and windows shut until the smoke clears.

( james ) and we have brand new and we have brand new numbers on that mendocino complex fire. it has now spread to 300-thousand acres. but the good news it... it is now 47% cpntainment... that is up from about 30% yesterday. 116 homes have been destroyed... and more than 10-thousand buildings are still threatened. ( darya ) ( darya ) another large and deadly fire we're following this morning is the carr fire in shasta county. it's burned more than 173- thousand acres near redding... and is 47 -percent contained... those are new numbers this morning. more than 1-thousand homes have been destroyed. and seven people have been killed... including two firefighters. ( darya ) the ferguson fire has burned more than 94- thousand acres in and around yosemite national park. this fire is now 43-percent contained. flames are affecting three of the park's entrances. officials say it's unclear when the park

will re-open. the fire has ánot reached the yosemite valley... but it has been closed because of the poor air quality.poor air quality. two firefighters have died fighting the fire. another 12 have been injured. ( darya ) and in southern california... crews are using aircraft to try to control a forest fire south of los angeles. this is video of a firenado from overnight. this fire started monday... and so far the holy fire has already burned more than 3-thousand acres. it is only 5- percent contained. no homes are immediately threatened, but crews say the smoke could blanket neighborhoods and create unhealhty conditions. are following this morning... the family of a missing bay area man is making a desperate plea for help. luis garcia was last seen working a construction job at the warriors new arena in early july. his car was found more than three weeks ago at candlestick point... the next day his cell phone was found on a pier under the san mateo bridge in foster city. investigators say it was covered in blood. his wife says she is not giving up hope.

( darya ) the state's top 20 high schools has been revealed. and 9 bay area schools are on the list.( james ) the list comes from niche-dot-com. niche used data from the u-s department of edcuation.( darya ) first in the bay area.... and number 2 overall... gunn high in palo alto. gunn is followed by neighboring palo alto high. the top east bay school was orinda's miramonte... which is 5th overall. ( james ) the father of missing iowa student mollie tibbetts, who is originally from oakland, is revealing new information about his daughter's disappearance. and this morning we have new video showing her the day before she disappeared. you can see her sitting on the floor laughing. and another new video shared by one of mollies friends shows her salsa dancing in a gym. it is not clear when that second video was taken. her father... rob tibbetts says he is still optimistic that the case will end with mollie coming home. her father believes it's only a matter of time before someone comes forward with information. her boyfriend, dalton jack, says he is trying to stay busy and leave the work to

( james ) another big story this morning... we're now hearing from the father of the man shot and killed while driving on the bay bridge.( darya ) 31-year old darryl stinnette junior was a music promoter from texas. kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in san francisco with the latest. lydia. ( lydia ) he was killed early monday morning. stinette's father says his son was on tour with one of his artists. he also told us that stinette junior was a performer himself. he used the name his mother gave him as a child -- "lil pooh."

memories of the bay area natives killed in a plane crash in southern california. friends say floria hakimi was an advocate with several non profit groups in the bay area including mom's against poverty for which she served as a board member for many years. floria's work with the non profit benefited children both here and across the globe.. she raised money to help build an orphanage in iran, and schools in africa. ( darya ) a friend of 29-year-old nasim ghanadan says they attended san francisco state university together.. he says

she taught farsi to children. ( james ) in the east bay... the community is mourning a man who was fatally shot in east oakland. 30-year-old lnefarius mcginnis -- also known as "coach phee" --- was shot and killed on july 25th. mcginnis attended oakland public schools and worked for the school district as a coach and mentor. mcginnis would have turned 31 this month. he is survived by his wife and two daughters. they're just 9 and 2 years old. so far... police has not released any information on the gunman. ( james ) a rohnert park mother is sentenced to five years probation... after her two daughters drowned when she crashed her car into the petaluma river. alejandra hernandez-ruiz was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. the crash happened back in august 20-16. a witness found her standing on top of the car while her two daughters were still inside. authorities say she had meth and marijuana in her system at the time. police released the 27-year

( james ) new this morning... one person is in custody after a shooting in san francisco's bayview neighborhood. one woman was injured. it happened on the 15-hundred block of jennings street... which is near george washington carver elementary school. the woman was shot in the leg and ankle. ( darya ) in the east bay... the community is mourning a man who was fatally shot in east oakland. 30-year-old lnefarius mcginnis -- also known as "coach phee" --- was shot and killed on july 25th. mcginnis attended oakland public schools and worked for the school district as a coach and mentor. mcginnis would have turned 31 this month. he is survived by his wife and two daughters. they're just 9 and 2 years old. so far... police has not released any information on the gunman. ( darya ) a rohnert park mother is sentenced to five years probation... after her two daughters drowned when she crashed her car into the petaluma river. alejandra hernandez-ruiz was charged with two counts of vehicular

manslaughter. the crash happened back in august 20-16. a witness found her standing on top of the car while her two daughters were still inside. authorities say she had meth and marijuana in her system at the time. police released the 27-year old from the sonoma county jail to home confinement... so she could be treated for an aggressive cancer. to whole foods . . . amazon, known for bringing items to shoppers' homes, is adding a curbside pickup option at whole foods for prime members. shoppers will be able to order eggs, milk and other groceries on the prime now app, park in reserved spaces at the store and then workers will place the items in their cars. curbside grocery pickup is a feature that walmart, kroger and other grocers have been expanding to make shopping more convenient and boost sales. at walmart, for example, the service has been a major driver of its online sales growth.

( darya ) a big story we are following this morning... the family of a missing bay area man is making a desperate plea for help. luis garcia was last seen working a construction job at the warriors new arena in early july. his car was found more than three weeks ago at candlestick point... the next day his cell phone was found on a pier under the san mateo bridge in foster city. investigators say it was covered in blood. his wife, who is three months pregnant, says she is not giving up hope. 880 to 101. golden gat bridge drive time less than 30 min from 37 to the toll plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( darya ) in the east bay... the community is mourning a man who was fatally shot in east oakland. 30-year-old lnefarius mcginnis -- also known as "coach phee" --- was shot and killed on july 25th. mcginnis attended oakland public schools and worked for the school district as a coach and mentor. mcginnis would have turned 31 this month. he is survived by his wife and two daughters. they're just 9 and 2 years old. so far... police has not released any information on the gunman.

( darya ) a rohnert park mother is sentenced to five years probation... after her two daughters drowned when she crashed her car into the petaluma river. alejandra hernandez-ruiz was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. the crash happened back in august 20-16. a witness found her standing on top of the car while her two daughters were still inside. authorities say she had meth and marijuana in her system at the time. police released the 27-year old from the sonoma county jail to home confinement... so she could be treated for an aggressive cancer. ( james ) happening today... jury deliberations begin in the lawsuit against monsanto. the "round-up" maker is accused of causing a bay area man's cancer. dewayne johnson is a former groundskeeper for the benecia unified school district. he says he used roundup on a regular basis. he says he developed a rash on his body... and was later diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and his body is covered with lesions. he's asking for more than 39 million dollars in

warning for parents and children as you start your back to school shopping. a brand of crayons could have traces of asbestos. ( darya ) the 'u-s public interest research group' issued the warning. they say the "playskool" brand of crayons tested positive for asbestos. those crayons are commonly found at dollar tree stores. ( james ) the group is now calling on dollar tree to recall and remove the crayons from store shelves. they also want the store to contact customers to warn them about the possibly harmful crayons. asbestos can lead to lung cancer if inhaled or ingested.
