nathurricane lane slams the hawaiian islands with life=threatening downpours, powerful winds and high surf.. this is not just going to be over the next 24 hours ...torrential rains. forecasters are predicting over 30 inches in some parts you could see higher amounts isolatea million and a half locals and tourists told to seek shelter.more nat (vicki) category 3 hurricane lane is moving closer to hawaii. and the islands are being hit more. thank you for joining us i'm vicki liviakis pam moore has the night off.(ken) and i'm ken wayne. some parts of the big ready seen as inches of rain. and this is just the beginning. we
lawrence and and lawrence we're already seeing impacts from the storm...but is the worst still to come? lawrence karnow: a major hurricane is now headed toward the hawaiin islands. it is expected to weaken as it approaches tonight but we can still expect hurricane force winds and very heavy rain and flash floodiing. it is very hazy with smoke and fog around the bay area today. highs were cooler than normal with numbers in the 70s in the warmest locations inland. on the satellite you can see a low pressure sysytem to our north. that is keeping us cooler and also bringing some the smoke into the bay area. highs tomorrow will be similar with 70s and low 50s and 60s at the coast. below normal weather is expected over the next 7 days.
(ken)(anchor) two convicted robbers now face murder charges in the death of a beloved east bay restaurant owner.the beating was captured on security camera.(vicki)we learned today how police tracked down the two suspects kron 4's justine waldman is live in our newsroom now..she also has reaction from the victim's family on the arrests. (justine) the family said news of the suspects arrested, only begins to give them a small sense of closure. the suspects were arraigned today. in addition to the murder chargesthey are charged with two special circumstances: murder by lying in wait and murder during the course of a robbery. the surveillance video showing the assault on cindy le (lay) is sickening.in april, the 61 year old was attacked outside of her restaurant in alameda around 11pm she died a few days later.long time customers still miss her. sot oh she was just a delighton monday, alameda police arrested two ex- con's for her murder.38-year old paul paez and 39-year old donte holloway both from oakland.police tracked them down using surveillance video, dmv databases, licence plate readers and cell phone data. court documents show that paez followed le after closing her
restaurant in oakland to alameda.and he allegedly tried to steal her purse, when she resisted, he punched her in the face.which made her fall and hit her head on the sidewalk.holloway, the documents say, hit le and her daughters boyfriend who was with her, in the head with a metal pipe.documents show the holloway admitted to be there and swinging the pipe.sot it doesn't make it any better what happened happened we just want justice cindy's family asked that we not share any picture of her...but did send a statement to kron 4 after learning about the arrests: "this tragedy has been extremely difficult and painful for our entire family. however, the amount of love and support we have received from this community has helped ease our sorrows and helped restore our faith in humanity." "our family is still grieving over the sudden, and violent loss of our beautiful mother, wife, and sister. we now put faith in our legal system in obtaining justice for our loved one." ocean - that's mixing with the fog and being carried into the bay area.. this is the sight from all over the bay area -- it's turning buildings into silhouettes.. in this view of san francisco you can barely see..and it's not the usual fog.. according to sarah zahedi spokesperson of the bay area air quality management district,we are seeing smoke from the wildfires being trapped in the fog -- making the air quality unhealthy.. in these conditions, zahedi recommends taking extra steps to protect your health

expected to weaken as it approaches tonight but we can still expect hurricane force winds rain and flash floodiing. it is very hazy with smoke and fog around the bay area today. highs were cooler than normal with numbers in the 70s in the warmest locations inland. on the satellite you can see a low pressure sysytem to our north. that is keeping us cooler and also bringing some the smoke into the bay area. highs tomorrow will be similar with 70s and low 80s inland and 50s and 60s at the coast. below normal weather is expected over the next 7 days. canceling flights as hurricane lane approaches hawaii. united airlines is calling off its flights to and from maui on friday. the airline added two additional flights from honolulu to san francisco today to help get people off the islands. hawaiian airlines is also canceling all friday flights by its commuter carrier...ohana by hawaiian. (ken)in the east bay, city officials in el cerrito say they want to improve safety along a popular trail.(vicki) ahthe city wants to intall 10 new security cameras along the ohlone greenway, which runs from berkeley to richmond. kron 4's charles clifford was in el cerrito today and has details. well, the ohlone greenway is four and a half miles long. it's a popular trail for walking, running, and biking. it's also used by commuters
going to and from work. but, the trail has seen some problems over the years include in a homicide this past april near masonic avenue in albany. now the city of el cerrito wants to give the trail a safety upgrade.nats back in 2009, , the city of el cerrito installed 9 cameras along the ohlone greenway. they say the network has dettered crime and helped with the apprehension of suspects in crimes committed near the greenway. but after nearly a decade of operation, the camera's are showing their age. the plan now is to upgrade the existing cameras and install 10 new cameras between conlon avenue and san pablo avenue, at cutting boulevard and at fairmont avenue.the el cerrito police department say they are teaming up with other local law enforcement agencies to expand the network.soti didn't even know there were cameras along here.along the greenway on thursday, the new camera where welcome news.soti think surveillance cameras work well. sotsafety wise, i think it's a good idea.in addition to the camera's, people we talked said they would also like to see more police presence along the greenway.sotwhat i would like to see are police officers on bycicles. or small motor cycles. i think one time isaw a cop along
here.el cerrito police also say that the cameras along the greenway will be compatible with contra costa county's new freeway safety initiative, a network of video cameras being installed along interstate 80 and highway 4. finally, now date has been released for when the new cameras will be up and running. in el cerrito, charles clifford kron 4 news. (vicki)(vicki) take a look at these pictures. police say these five suspects robbed the corte maderaapple store wednesday around noon. police say the five rushed in and the five were only in the store for about one minute and managed to grab about 19 thousand dollars worth of goods and then fleed out of the store.sgt. alberto duenas, central marin police authority. it was at noon yesterday, wednesday when we go the call, 5 individuals in hoodies, african american, they grabbed apple products about 19k worth. they went in fast, about 1 minute then out. these pictures. police say they are woking on several tips and this latest crimes comes on the heels of several other thefts at apple stores. (ken) preliminary autopsy results show that iowa college student mollie tibbetts was killed by "multiple sharp force injuries" the autopsy also officially confirmed the body found in a corn field was that of the 20 year old tibbetts. a suspect was arrested in her slaying tuesday. he is now charged with first degree murder. investigators allege cristhian bahena rivera abducted tibbetts while she was out for a run. he then allgedly killed her and later disposed of the body on a farm. still ahead at eight.. a controversy brewing on the peninsula...ove r the plan to put up a "bikini barista" shop
up in san mateo would have their baristas serving in bikinis. this has some members of the community concerned. (ken) and the risque attire might not meet the zoning codes. kron 4's gabe slate spoke with city officials to learn more. just south of redwood city, on the corner of el camino real and dumbarton avenue in an unincorporated area of san mateo county there sits a small drive thru coffee shop called caffino that recently closed. a new owner, pink pantherz expresso is trying open a similar business, a drive thru coffee shop, but with a twist. the baristas at the pink pantherz expresso coffee shops are known for wearing very revealing bikinis. they are bikini baristas. sound from david j. canepa - san mateo county supervisor - fith district "i can understand neighbors being concerned" san mateo county supervisor david canepa says the city has taken quite a few concerns from community members. there are schools nearby and kids will be walking by the business. sound from david j. canepa - un fith district "we have heard from the community they have spoken up against this" sound un- san mateo county resident "coffee is coffee i don't care, as long as not naked" tricia young has

(vicki) she calls it a case of mom shaming. mai martinez reports. corey widen/mother: "i think it's a crazy waste of resources."that's how corey widen views the d-c-f-s investigation launched after someone spotted her daughter, dorothy, walking the family dog alone.shortly after the 8-year-old got home, a wilmette police officer rang the doorbell.dorothy widen/ 8- years-old: "i was like really scared. i saw the police just there. like the police's car and i heard the like sirens going off."corey widen/mother: "she said, 'are you the one whose daughter just took a little white dog for a walk?' and i said, 'yeah.' i said, 'why did she do something wrong?' she said, 'no. how old is she?' i said, 'she's 8.' she said, 'ok because we got a call it was an unattended 5 year old.' i said, 'oh no she's 8-years old.'"widen says the officer said that was fine, and left, but that wasn't the end of the family's trouble.corey widen/mother: "so apparently whoever call the police didn't think the police were a good enough
judge of what was ok and not ok. then they called dcfs. the police did not call dcfs."an investigation was launched and widen hired an attorney to clear her name.the matter was resolved in less than 2-weeks, but widen says she was left with many questions and felt mom-shamed.corey widen/mother: "you never know who did this to you, and it turns your life upside down like that. i'm a homeschool mom and i'm always with my kids. you can accuse me of a lot of things, not supervising them, is not one of them. my entire life revolves around them."as for who will walk marshmallow in the future...mai martinez/reporting: "do you plan to let her walk the dog alone anymore?"corey widen/mother: "absolutely. she still is walking the dog. it's her one and only chore. it's my decision, and it's my family. she's my daughter, and i haven't done anything wrong so i'm not gonna change anything i did." (vicki) the department of children and family services is not commenting on this story. the mom says she has learned other mothers have found themselves in similar situations. she hopes the department will evaluate how and why investigations are launched. (ken) in texas... a man is seen trying to push someone else's child inside his vehicle. the man says he
wanted the kid to be punished for allegedly stealing. jerry canto said it all started when he saw three kids running.. the driver of a white camry was apparrently chasing them. canto said two kids ran but the youngest was near the camry and it appeared the man was pushing the boy inside of it. canto says he grabbed a hammer and approached the man. the man claimed the boy stole from his food mart just down the road. "he's a kid" "he stole from my store" "i don't give a áááá he's a kid" "i'm taking him to the cops" "i don't got nothing" "you are going to the cops" "no"jerry canto/witness "i tried to tell him to leave the kid alone and he was screaming 'you stole from my store.'"(ken)store.'"(ken) a clerk from the store did confirm the boys stole from the store and it was captured on video. jerry said the child went home. no word on whether or no word on whether or not the store owner could face charges.
