a new warning for contra costa county residents... more insects and birds have tested positive for west nile virus. so far 13 groups of mosquitoes.. 8 dead birds and 13 chickens have tested positive for the virus. that's compared to last year when officials found the virus in just three groups of mosquitos and five dead birds. so far the virus has been found in nine areas of contra costa county.. oakley.. martinez.. holland tract.. discovery bay.... quimby island... brentwood.. bryon... antioch and concord. morning... two people are dead and three others are injured after two separate shootings in oakland. this is a picture of the scene of the first shooting on the 95- hundred block of 'e' street. one person died in that shooitng and another was injured. then about 90 minutes later... another person was shot and killed near 11th avenue and international boulevard. one man died in that shooting and two others were injured. right now it is not clear if the shootings are related. the gunmen are still on the loose. ( james ) in the north bay.... a man is under arrest this morning after two people were stabbed outside of a restaurant. it happened at la-perla tapatio on santa rosa avenue in santa rosa. police say jose lopez-mendoza stabbed two security guards after he and his friends were kicked out for being intoxicated. both of the victims are expected to survive. lopez mendoza was also taken to the hospital after he was found with large amounts of blood on his hands. he is being charged with attempted murder. ( james ) in the south bay... two teenage boys are under arrest after leading police on a chase that ended

in a crash near a south bay high school. the car was reported stolen early sunday morning in santa clara. the 15-year-old driver lead police on a chase that ended near wilson high school. the driver lost control and drove through a chain link fence and crashed into a tree. the driver suffered a broken leg. the 16-year- old passneger was not injured. both are facing charges of grand theft auto and evading police. ( darya ) the body of a 79-year-old man was found in an alley in menlo park. the body was found yesterday morning in the alley of the 100 block of willow road. the man had a visible head wound. police say as of right now... there is no sign of foul play. ( darya ) in national headlines this morning ... the fbi is searching the home of the gunman who killed two people at an online gaming tournament in jacksonville,

florida. police say the gunman killed himself as they were closing in. that was the sound of gunfire ... as the attack was partially recorded during a live online stream of the madden football gaming tournament.one of the two video gamers killed was from woodland hills in southern california. 11 people were also injured in the attack ... as crowds scattered in all directions, trying to get to safety in the populated outdoor marketplace.

( james ) in walnut creek... an apple store that's only been open for a month is targeted by thieves. police say the thieves were able to walk in... steal macbooks and i-phones... and escape in a black mercedes that was waiting outside. a shopper used their phone to get video of the getaway car. police say no weapons were used. just last week... thieves robbed an apple in

corte madera. they got away with 19-thousand dollars worth of merchandise. ( james ) police in berkeley are looking for this man after he was caught on camera breaking into cars. this happened near the u-c berkeley campus. the man broke into two cars and then was seen looking into several others. he was last seen in this 1998 nissan pathfinder. ( darya ) happening today... the c-h-p is partnering with the nevada highway patrol to participate in the i-80 challenge. it is an effort to reduce distracted and reckless driving along i-80 from san francisco all the way to the nevada-utah state line. the effort will start today and last through september 3rd. c-h-p will increase safety operations along the route. wb 80 is less then 30 min from the maze to sf. s680 at pacheco blvd pacheco blvd ( darya ) a big story this morning... mourners have paid their last respects to mollie tibbetts. the 20-year-old university of iowa student -- who was from the bay area -- disappeared in july while she was out jogging. her body was found last week in a cornfield. a now suspect -- cristhian rivera -- is in custody. tibbetts' funeral service brought hundreds together... a mix of family, friends and community members. ( james ) coming up... an arrest is caught on camera in the bay area... now it's stirring up controversy.

the suspect.elaine wallace/vallejothe guy is screaming. he's screaming for help and in so much pain. did you see that blood that was on his skull? that was horrific to watch.the vallejo police department says officers responded to a call from a 14 year old girl reporting that she was stuck in a man's car.. and that he would not take her home.they say.. when they approached that car.. the suspect 22 year old angel bagos ran away from the scene.. and to the front part of mod pizza which is where the video was taken.the man who captured the arrest on his cell phone says.. officers tackled bagos so hard into the door that the glass and wood broke.but police say.. bagos tripped on the sidewalk as officers trying to take him down to arrest him.elaine wallace/vallejohe was just a little guy. there's no way he could trip from this curb and do that much damage to that door..police also say.. that bagos refused to comply when officers ordered him from underneath his body.. so one of them used a flashlight to repeatedly hit him in his back

area and left arm.elaine wallace/vallejothere's no way that the police should be in a position like that. first of all, it's two cops. the guy is on the ground. and while the guy is spending all that energy beating him, the other cop was taking his precious time putting him in handcuffs. and we don't know what happened before because of where the video started . but that does not have to do with the end result was, them beating him like a meat cleaver. he was screaming like an animal screaming and they had no sympathy. they just kept beating him. ( james ) investigators say say a tesla driver who said he áthoughtá his car was in autopilot mode... crashed into the back of a firetruck in san jose. c-h-p says says the tesla rear-ended a fire engine that was stopped with its emergency lights

turned on along highway 101 on saturday. 37-year-old michael tran told officers "i think i had auto-pilot on." tran was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. it was unclear whether autopilot was activated. tesla says in a statement that it has not yet received any data from the car, but they are working to figure out what happened. ( darya ) verizon says it has changed its policy after a bay area fire chief filed a lawsuit claiming the company slowed down their data speeds while they were battling the mendocino complex fire. the lawsuit states that slowing the internet speed was actively impeding firefighters' ability to provide essential emergency services. just days after the lawsuit was filed ... verizon says they will ánow lift restrictions on public safety customers, providing full network access.

( darya ) a bay area attorney who spent nearly a week inside a texas detention center says the u-s has a human rights crisis. shikha hamilton returned from an ice facility that held mostly fathers and children. hamiliton was one of 16 people who volunteered to give leagal counsel to the detainees. she says many came with hope... and then lost it within the walls of the detention centers.

( james ) in the east bay... richmond has dealt with a number of violent shootings this summer but over the weekend... the community gathered for a game of softball to promote peace and stop violence. that game happened at nichol park. it was the people of richmond against former gang members from los angeles. all the players are volunteers -- the main purpose is to promote peace and to stop local violence.. ( james ) this was the 4th annual soulful softball game. organizers say it's the kind of gathering needed to help stem the rising crime in the city of richmond.

( james ) happening today... the c-h-p is hosting a summit on marijuana traffic safety. the summit will center on the legalization of marijuana and its impact on impaired driving. it starts this morning at 8:00 at the alameda county office of emergency services. the event is free and open to the public. ( darya ) firefighters in stockton had to forcibly remove a man from their fire engine after they said he tried to steal it. the incident happened early saturday morning... police say the man was pushing a lit garbage can up the driveway when fire crews arrived before he hopped in the front seat of the truck. after a short struggle.. they were able to get him out of the truck before he could take off. the man was arrested and faces chares for trying to truck.. battery on a firefighter and arson. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) the twin peaks tunnel is back open after being under construction for two months. a relief for commuters and for busine owners near the tunnel. some businesses had to work around the construction equipment that took up parking spes. the city's municipal transportation agency was replacing trcks and drainage systems. this comes two weeks after 51-year- old patrick ricketts died after he was hit by a steel beam working inside the tunnel. into the back of a firetruck in san jose. c-h-p says says the tesla rear-ended a fire engine that was stopped with its emergency lights turned on along highway 101 on saturday. 37-year-old michael tran told officers "i think i had auto-pilot on." tran was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. it was unclear whether autopilot was activated. tesla says in a statement that it has not yet received any data from the car, but they are working to figure out what happened. hundreds of volunteers came out to the international house at u-c berkley to assemble over three thousand back to school kits full of items like notebooks, folders, colored pencils you name it anything a lowincome child may need heading into the school year. "california is now the 5th largest economy in the world yet there is 2.3 million students in the public school who can't provide for their own school supplies and the schools don't supply them anymore. plus, there are 5 million homeless children."in effort to help those in need of supplies - supply bank dot org has been hosting this event for eight years. "it started as a grass roots event out of a fraternity at berkley and it's turned into the largest school supply donation event in the united states." volunteers come out from a variety of organizations."a couple hundred kaiser volunteersnd later on today there will be a couple hundred more from supply bank and the city of berkley and other interested parties will come here for 3 or 4 hours."as each school supply gets packed into the totes - volunteers say it's rewarding to give back. james ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is in concord with the latest. byron is the latest area of contra costa county to be added to the list of places where mosquitoes have tested positive for west nile virus this year.so far this year, 13 groups of mosquitoes, eight dead birds and 13 chickens from around contra costa county have tested positive. mosquitoes with west nile have also been found this year in oakley, martinez, holland tract, discovery bay and quimby island. dead birds testing positive for west nile have been found in brentwood, discovery bay, antioch and concord.since 2005, 63 contra costa county residents have been diagnosed with west nile. in 2006, two people died from the disease.in addition to warning people to wear mosquito repellant and stay indoors when mosquitoes are active at dawn and dusk, officials are reminding horse owners to get their animals vaccinated.reporting live in concord, lydia pantazes kron 4 news.

( james ) in the south bay... two teenage boys are under arrest after leading police on a chase that ended in a crash near a south bay high school. the car was reported stolen early sunday morning in santa clara. the 15-year-old driver lead police on a chase that ended near wilson high school. the driver lost control and drove through a chain link fence and crashed into a tree. the driver suffered a broken leg. the 16-year- old passneger was not injured. both are facing charges of grand theft auto and evading police. ( james ) the body of a 79-year-old man was found in an alley in menlo park. it was found yesterday morning near the 100 block of willow road. police are looking into the cause of death, but right now say there is no sign of foul play. ( darya ) investigators say say a tesla driver who said he áthoughtá his car was in autopilot mode... crashed into the back of a firetruck in san jose. c-h-p says says the tesla rear-ended a fire engine that was stopped with its emergency lights turned on along highway 101 on saturday. 37-year-old michael tran told officers "i think i had auto-pilot on." tran was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. it was unclear whether autopilot was activated. tesla says in a statement that it has not yet received any data from the car, but they are working to figure out what happened. ( darya ) happening today... the c-h-p is partnering with the nevada highway patrol to participate in the i-80 challenge. it is an effort to reduce distracted and reckless driving along i-80 from san francisco all the way to the
