( robin ) breaking overnight... a 3-year-old was killed when she was hit by a car in the east bay. police say sophia pena died from injuries she got on the 400 block of shepard avenue in hayward. first responders found sophia in the road monday. she was taken to the hospital and later died of her injuries. police say the driver of the vehicle ádidá stay on the scene and cooperated with police. at

this time police say the cause of the collision has not been determined. ( robin ) san francisco giants legend willie mccovey has passed away. mccovey spent 19 of his 22 major- league seasons with the giants. many across the bay area are mourning the loss of one of the most beloved players in franchise history. kron4's j-r stone has more. number 44 is what can be read on the at&t park scoreboard right now. in memory of willie mccovey. giants superstar who has passed away wednesday at the age of 80. sotwillie mccovey played in the majors for 22 seasons. 19 of those with the giants. he slammed 521 home runs. a record for a lefty batter that would last up until 2001 when it was broken by barry bonds.

if you weren't around in the 60's and 70's you may know mccovey best as the player that mccovey cove was named after. giants ceo larry baer says his fondest memory of the slugger came as a kid.sotand it's the fun loving mccovey that led to the creation of the willie mac award. one voted on by players, coaches, and training staff and given to the most inspirational player. even in willie's later years, and even with limited use of his legs in a wheelchair, he would come the ballpark and support his team.sot

( robin ) halloween is technically over, although we're sure there are some people trying to squeeze a few more hours out of the holiday. for the people that got their trick or treating done a little earlier... this year marks the first "safe trick- or- treat" event in the city of san pablo. children there put on their favorite halloween costumes ... they were treated to candy... along with an official police escort to several stops this afternoon ... including the san pablo police department... a senior living center ... a bank ... a restaurant... and a liquor store. for candy... of course.

police department: "public safety is our number one priority. we want to make sure that we give our community a safe place where they can go out and trick or treat. we want to make sure that we are visible. letting all the traffic know that we are out here and to make sure and slow down, watch for trick or treaters and create a safe and fun atmosphere. this year we partnered with our business community as well as brookdale senior home"> ( robin ) throughout the bay area law enforcement was also out, making sure everyone had a fun, safe halloween. ( robin ) the south san francisco unified school district is being sued over sexual abuse allegedly committed by a middle school teacher. a parent filed the lawsuit ... claiming their 14 year old child was molested by westborough middle school teacher joseph toy.kron 4's michelle kingston explains why

shooting of stephon clark ...the pain is still very real for his family. so community members, along with city leaders and local businesses rallied around stephon clark's family wednesday to renovate his grandparent's home... the clark family held a ribbon cutting, to thank the people who helped beautify the family home. it's a home family memebers say their granfather built from the bottom up... but the family is still healing since the shooting happened in the backyard of that home... and his family is waiting for justice. department has finished its investigation into the deadly shooting... now its in the hands of the sacramento county district attorneys office to decide if charges will be filed against the officers. boarded a bart train at 24th and mission in san francisco and found the car completely ransacked. when she told the train operator he said it's routinesot diane wagner/bart rider 18-25he says the drug people come on the train and they flip over the cushions to find money.wagner says the train operator was friendly and apologetic but did nothing about it, nor did the station agent she told in castro valley the next day.sotthe message for bart is they need to clean it up and make it safe and secure because right now as a rider i dont feel safe sot we want to have people have a good experience riding the systemthat said, bart director bevan dufty says bart has more serious issues to deal with than people removing cushions, such as a recent incident when a bart rider pulled out a two chainsaws. sot bevan dufty/bart director 100-110in that case, bart police officers were on scene in two minutes so i would offer to you thats where they should be in a situation that is potentially violent or dangerous.dufty says trains

( robin ) when california voters passed the law that made marijuana legal for adults, they had high hopes that the golden state would reap financial benefits from the formerly illict industry. it had been predicted that the state might eventually collect a billion dollars a year in taxes. but so far.. that appears to be a pipe dream. kron4's maureen kelly takes a look at why we have fallen far short of what was projected. natsback in 2014 rapper michael quintinilla aka mic

center in modesto. it's a process that can take anywhere from 9 to 18 months. 26:40 i could paint a pretty picture and make it sound great but i call it a roller coaster ride, you have your ups and downs legalization advocates have long said that marijuana is california's real cash crop.....leading up to the vote that make adult recreational use legal....voters were told to expect that the next gold rush would be green....but while there are plenty of pot sales inside dispensaries.....so far the tax dollars that were expected to be generated aren't nearly as high as expected. when the state budget was drawn up....it was predicted that the excise and cultivatation taxes in the first six month of this year would total 175 million dollars.that figure may have been a pipe dream.the state office of tax and fee administration reports they've taken in close to 85 million from pot businesses in that time frame....which is less than half of what was hoped for. the sales tax totals during that same time was $53

star william daniels, 91, and his wife, 89-year-old bonnie bartlett, were able to scare off a would-be robber who broke into their home on saturday. daniels invited inside edition to his san fernando valley, california, house to see the scene of the crime.daniels said he and bartlett awoke to the sound of glass shattering as the thief kicked in the bottom of their back door. "we hear 'pow, pow, pow,'" the actor said. morning... when it comes to online shopping, food dominates sales... that's according to a new report, showing a growing number of people are buying groceries and prepared food online. mary moloney gives us a closer look. your groceries, delivered!and your favorite restaurant dishes-- brought to your door! skipping the grocery store and restaurant and buying online instead appears to be a growing trend.a new report from credit-cards-dot-com shows that for many, the biggest online expense is food. the survey looked at credit card purchases and found-- 26-percent of surveyed adults are buying groceries online every week.while about one-in-five surveyed are buying prepared food and drinks on a weekly basis.the reason for the high rate of spending may be the rewards credit cards offer for restaurant or food-related purchases.compared to other purchases, food takes up the biggest chunk of cash every

( james ) new this morning... three teenagers are recovering after being shot in the south bay. it happened near the seven trees community center in san jose. police arrived on scene and found two girls and a boy with gun shot wounds. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. the teens were hanging out behind the community center when a gunman walked up and started shooting. police do ánot believe that this is gang related. the shooter is still on the loose. willie mccovey statue where tributes continue to pour in...here you can see pictures, candles, giants gear all in honor of the giants legend.the giants announced his death saying the fearsome hitter passed peacefully yesterday afternoon.the hall of famer made his major league debut with the giants in 19-59 and was with the giants for 18 years out of his 22 year career.in recent years - mccovey also known as stretch had been getting around in a wheelchairbut that's didn't stop him from coming here to a-t and t park as he regularly watched games in his suite.he even got to see the final game of the season this year.this growing memorial shows you mccovey will always be loved by giants fans and this statue ensures he will never be forgotton.a public celebration of life will be announced soon. "he lived in the same house on the peninsula for 40 years, i think going back to almost when he was playing and just as he was last few years as a player so he was very much part of the community. he came here in 1959 hailed from alabama, and he never left. it was pretty much a beautiful story, you

( darya ) in the south bay... a man is charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed a woman on the cabrillo college campus in aptos. when deputies arrived, they found the manager of the cafeteria holding down steven wooding. a 19-year-old student was stabbed while she was sitting in the cafeteria. she was able to run away to an area outside where she waited for paramedics to arrive. she is in stable condition. wooding has a history at the college. the school has a restraining order against him for harassing behavior. he was previously arrested for an assault of a staff member in 1994. he spent several years in a psychiatric institution for that crime. ( james ) on the peninsula... a parent has filed a lawsuit against the south san francisco unified school district... after they say their child was sexually abused by a teacher. the parent claims their 14- year-old was molested by westborough middle school teacher, joseph toy... and that the school failed to report the incident after being notified. the lawsuit cliams toy would put the 14-year-old victim on his lap, kiss his head, and place his hand under his shirt... where he rubbed and patted his stomach area. the lawsuit

( darya ) happening now... a warning before you hop- on one of those "lime" scooters found across the east bay. they could catch on fire. the company released a statement saying the manufacturer is recalling some of the scooters because of an issue with the battery. they say the defect could result in the battery smoldering, or in some cases, catching fire. lime did say the issue impacts less than one-percent of their scooter fleet. they say all affected scooters have been removed from circulation. no injuries have been ( james ) another big story we are following... the california democratic party headquarters in sacramento was evacuated wednesday after a suspicious package arrived. investigators swarmed the scene... including the f-b-i. nearby buildings were also evacuated before investigators concluded the area was safe.

( james ) on the peninsula... a parent has filed a lawsuit against the south san francisco unified school district... after they say their child was sexually abused by a teacher. the parent claims their 14- year-old was molested by westborough middle school teacher, joseph toy... and that the school failed to report the incident after being notified. the lawsuit cliams toy would put the 14-year-old victim on his lap, kiss his head, and place his hand under his shirt... where he rubbed and patted his stomach area. the lawsuit also says a parent previously caught toy being inappropriate with another student .. and took a picture of the teacher

( darya )in the north bay... a 16-year old has been arrested in marin county for threatening to shoot students at novato high school. novato police say the teen sent threatening messages to other students where he also commented on their sexual orientation. even though the teen and his parents deny he had any intention of hurting other students... he was still booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of criminal threats and committing a hate crime. police officers were on campus for added security. ( darya )and... an elementary school teacher from san rafael has died after being hit by a drunk driver while riding her bike. this also happened in marin county. debra di-benedetto taught at dixie elementary school for the past 20 years. grief

counselors have been on campus to help the students and the school observed a moment of silence in her honor. the driver has been arrested and booked on suspicion of dui causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter. di- benedetto was 63 years old. ( james ) a mother is furious because of a "fight club" at her children's daycare organized by teachers in saint louis. a ten-year old took this fight club video with his ipad from the next room. one teacher is excited, while the other teachers puts hulk fists on preschoolers. mother nicole merseal cannot watch without crying. police report says the director immediately fired both teachers and called the child abuse hotline. the st. louis district attorney's office declined to prosecute the teachers because they say there was not enough evidence that any laws were broken.
