7:35 am
meterologist john shrable is joining us with a special report which looks into this year's el nino forecast..( john ) one of the most common questions asked every year is how much rain will we get this season. chief meterologist lawerence karnow takes a look at what we could see. (track 1: 1st take) (video of hot, dry weather and natsounds of wildfires) it was a summer of scorching temperatures and some of the largest fires in california history. for 7 of the last 10 years, california has suffered through a severe drought. in fact, from 2011 to 2014, we've had the driest period since records began in the 1800s. (track 2: 1st take) (videos of dry brush and
7:36 am
fires) it's no surprise that parched land covered with dead trees and brush have provided plenty of fuel for wildfires to sweep across the state. (natsound of fires)(track 3: 2nd take) (el nino globe graphic) and with an el nino forecast to develop this fall and winter, hopes are high for a lot of rain.(natsound of rain)(track 4: 1st take) (el nino animation graphic) el nino is a warming of the equatorial waters in the central and eastern pacific. it can change weather patterns all across the globe.(track 5: 1st take) (natsound of flooding) when we think of an el nino, flooding rain and mudslides often come to mind.(video of floods & mudslides)(track 6: 1st take) but not every el nino is the same, and they don't always bring a lot of rain.(bite - 7:10)(brian garcia, warning coordination meteorologist nws) (not all el nino's are created equal. 2015 - 2016 was a strong el nino but is was classified as a dud because we

were hoping it would be a drought buster for us)(7:20) (track 7: 1st take) (imgó0298.jpg)(please burn a courtesy for noaa into the graphic)the waters at the equator have started to warm, and this year's forecast is for a weak or moderate el nino. so what does that mean for the bay area and the state? (bite - 6:15)(brian garcia)(in weak el nino years we typically see much more normal rainfall for the overall water year but we can get riods of heavy rain in any year. i don't think we've seen a strong rain year come out of a weak el nino) (6:32)(cover some of this bite with video) (track 8: 2nd take) (video of rain, then seasonal outlook graphic) computer models are ( john ) nobody knows exactly what causes el ninos, which make them nearly impossible to forecast accurately. all we can do now is watch, hope, and wait for the rain to return. don't know what was worse: the quality of the air or the football.. masks protected the 49er fans from the smokey air but not from the disappointment of another loss.. but there were some young fans there who really help you keep things in perspective.. kids who've lost everything in the fire burning through butte county were at the game. the 49ers bussed in the entire paradise high football team.. they were 8 and 2 and had to forfeit their playoff appearance.. which is the least of their worries now.. most of them are living in evacuation shelters.. they don't know when they'll get back to school or if they'll have homes to return to so for them, this was a chance to forget their troubles if just
7:50 am
for a few hours. rather than dwell on the 49ers problems, which seem insignificant now.. i'll fast forward to the last play.. where nick mullens throws the ball like he was aiming for the moon.. it sails past the end zone to end the game: 49ers lose to the terrible ny giants 27 to 23. all mullens could say is.. they all have to play better, himself included. what can tom brady say: he's a thrower not a runner.. remember when gizelle famously said my husband cannot throw the ball "and" catch the ball.. well he can't run with it either.. if you didn't see this play.. come to the tv.. bay area pal julian edleman throws it, brady catches it, takes off and then just falls over like a big tree. nobody even touched him. timber! the memes started popping
7:51 am
up immediately.. look at this woman go down with her popcorn. it is kinda fun to do the brady-fall.. ( darya ) the sky is falling.. that's what people who whine about the warriors want the storyline to be.. steph is out with an injury, the warriors are losing, the players are fighting! the real story is.. steph's not ready to play yet but he's going to be fine, the warriors lost to the clippers 121 to 116 in overtime, but theyr'e going to be fine... and draymond and k-d got in to a shouting match over the last play in regulation, but they're going to be fine.
7:52 am
nobody will say what it was about: maybe k-d was mad that dray didn't call time out.. ( darya )the way bigger mystery and joke this morning.. is what the warriors are now offering to the fans.. for 100 dollars a month, you get to go to every a home game.. the catch is.. you don't get a view of the floor.. you see the seating chart? you are here. you don't get one. no seat. you're just buying a ticket in to the building.so if you've ever been to a ballgame and had the obstructed view.. it's worse than that.. cuz you can't lean
7:53 am
around the post and take a peak at the action. the only way you can see the game is to watch it on one of those tv's they have in the hallway or the bar or restaurant area. there are currently 44,000 people on the warriors season-ticket waiting list, so i guess the team figures they can make a buck.. or a hundred bucks.. off of those of us who can't afford to buy even one ticket to one game.

( james ) a majority of the bay area continues to be under a "code red" meaning the air is unhealthy to breathe. ( darya ) kron4's will tran has more from santa rosa where schools are canceled today because of the smoke. wildfire smoke from the camp fire in butte county continues to blanket the bay area with unhealthy air today and the haze is expected to linger, air quality officials said. the hazardous smoke

wildfires as generally dry conditions have prevailed so far this year.( darya ) but a developing 'el nino' could be good news. meterologist john shrable is joining us with a special report which looks into this year's el nino forecast..( john ) one of the most common questions asked every year is how much rain will we get this season. chief meterologist lawerence karnow takes a look at what we could see. (track 2: 1st take) (videos of dry brush and fires) it's no surprise that parched land covered with dead trees and brush have provided plenty of fuel for wildfires to sweep across the state. (natsound of fires)(track 3: 2nd take) (el nino globe graphic) and with an el nino forecast to develop this fall and winter, hopes are highor

a lot of rain.(natsound of rain)(track 4: 1st take) (el nino animation graphic) el nino is a warming of the equatorial waters in the central and eastern pacific. it can change weather patterns all across the globe.(track 5: 1st take) (natsound of flooding) when we think of an el nino, flooding rain and mudslides often come to mind.(video of floods & mudslides)(track 6: 1st take) but not every el nino is the same, and they don't always bring a lot of rain.(bite - 7:10)(brian garcia, warning coordination meteorologist nws) (not all el nino's are created equal. 2015 - 2016 was a strong el nino but is was classified as a dud because we were hoping it would be a drought buster for us)(7:20) (track 7: 1st take) (imgó0298.jpg)(please burn a courtesy for noaa into the graphic)the waters at the equator have started to warm, and this year's forecast is for a weak or moderate el nino. so what does that mean for the bay area and the state? (bite - 6:15)(brian garcia)(in weak el nino years we typically see much more normal rainfall for the overall water year but we can get periods of heavy rain in any year. i don't think we've seen a strong rain year come out of a weak el nino) (6:32)(cover some of this bite with video) (track 8: 2nd take) (video of rain, then seasonal outlook graphic) computer models are now forecasting a 70 to 75% chance of el nino conditions this winter.(video of rain) (track 9: 1st take) (video of dry brown hills and reservoirs) but how much rain we see here and across the
9:38 am
state is still unknown. (track 10: 1st take) (videos of light rain in puddles) a look at past 'weak to moderate' el nino events give us a little clue. the average of the last 25 weak el ninos brings slightly below normal rain for the state. (track 11: 1st take)(video of heavy rain) while the average of the last 25 moderate el ninos bring a little above normal rainfall.(natsound of heavy rain)(bite - 17:55)(heather phillips, vine hill ranch) i think we all like to see the wet weather within reason but yes i think we're ready to get a few wet ones now)(18:07) ( john ) nobody ( john )
9:39 am
( john ) nobody knows exactly what causes el ninos, which make them nearly impossible to forecast accurately. all we can do now is and wait for the rain to return.

worse: the quality of the air or the football.. masks protected the 49er fans from the smokey air but not from the disappointment of another loss.. but there were some young fans there who really help you keep things in
9:48 am
perspective.. kids who've lost everything in the fire burning through butte county were at the game. the 49ers bussed in the entire paradise high football team.. they were 8 and 2 and had to forfeit their playoff appearance.. which is the least of their worries now.. most of them are living in evacuation shelters.. they don't know when they'll get back to school or if they'll have homes to return to so for them, this was a chance to forget their troubles if just for a few hours.rather than dwell on the 49ers problems, which seem insignificant now.. i'll fast forward to the last play.. where nick mullens throws the ball like he was aiming for the moon.. it sails past the end zone to end the game: 49ers lose to the terrible ny giants 27 to 23. all mullens could say is.. they all have to play better, himself included. what can tom brady say: he's a thrower not

a runner.. remember when gizelle famously said my husband cannot throw the ball "and" catch the ball.. well he can't run with it either.. if you didn't see this play.. come to the tv.. bay area pal julian edleman throws it, brady catches it, takes off and then just falls over like a big tree. nobody even touched him. timber! the memes started popping up immediately.. look at this woman go down with her popcorn. it is kinda fun to do the brady-fall.. that's what people who whine about the warriors want the storyline to be.. steph is out with an injury, the warriors are losing, the players are fighting, the sky is falling! the real story is.. steph's not ready to play yet but he's going to be fine, the warriors lost to the clippers 121 to 116 in overtime, but theyr'e going to be fine... and

draymond and k-d got in to a shouting match over the last play in regulation, but they're going to be fine. nobody will say what it was about: maybe k-d was mad that dray didn't call time out.. or maybe they were fighting about wh'os bobble head is better.. if they sky is falling i got this umbrella! the way bigger mystery and joke this morning.. is what the warriors are now offering to the fans.. for 100 dollars a month, you get to go to every a home game.. the catch is.. you don't get a view of the floor.. you see the seating chart? you are here. you don't get one. no seat. you're just buying a ticket in to the building.so if you've ever been to a ballgame and had the obstructed view.. it's worse than that.. cuz you can't lean around the post and take a peak at the action. the only way you can see the game is to watch it on one of those tv's they have in the hallway or the bar or restaurant area. there are currently 44,000 people on the warriors season-
