anyone who may need help. among the hazards they are looking out for are propane tanks, trailers and cars that were swept away by the flood waters. firefighters are also keeping an eye out for power lines. "this is the most flooded i have seen it here. we've had a couple of other floods but this is the highest and most devastating houses down in the hacienda area">>( darya ) as the river recedes ... forestville fire department officials say they are standing to help with any emergency. ( james ) many people who did not evacuate ... got trapped by the water .. and for the most part - the only way out of flooded areas has been by boat. yesterday on the kron4 morning news ... sara stinson encountered a rescue in forestville. a driver went around the roadblocks ... and tried to drive through the high water. the driver got stuck. the people inside the car were rescued by firefighters. they are now safe.
( james ) happening now ... west bound lanes of highway- 37 are still closed because of flooding. the closure is happening between atherton avenue and highway- 101 near novato. the concern now is the major rain system coming this weekend. officials say that could keep the westbound lanes closed through early next week. . ( james ) breaking overnight ... police in the east bay are investigating a deadly shooting in east oakland. it happened on edes avenue near nevada street. police say two men and two women were shot.
one of the men died at the scene. police say the man who died is from san leandro. the other three were taken to the hospital in stable condition. ( james ) happening today... the san mateo county district attorney will decide whether to charge five sherif's deputies in the death of a man who died after being tased by officers. chinedu okobi died back in october after a struggle with deputies. the sheirff's office says that okobi assaulted the deputies. after watching video of the incident... okobi's family says he was just walking down the street at the time of the incident. the district attorney has promised to release that video. the d-a will hold a news conference at 11:00 this morning to anounce the results of his investigation. ( darya ) new this morning... police have a sketch of the man they say attacked a woman in mountain view. investigators say this man attacked a runner on the stevens creek trail monday night. the victim says he introduced himself as "jerry"... before he attacked her... and also spoke with some sort of caribbean accent. police say he may also
have bite marks on either a hand or a forearm after the woman tried to defend herself. the victim was treated for serious injuries to her face, but is expected to be ok. ( darya ) in the east bay... dramatic body camera video released of a violent police encounter. it happened monday in pittsburg.officers were responding to a domestic incident involving the suspect and his father.police say the man was armed with a knife. after about ten minutes ... officers used a bean bag gun to disable to man. that's when police and a k-9 moved in and dragged the suspect to the ground. during the scuffle ... one officer suffered a minor cut to his neck.the suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.resisting weapon, and with a deadly for assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. the roads are open now for people thinking about heading up to tahoe for the weekend. officials say drive up there today ... because another storm is on the way that could close roads again. ( james ) it's a great snow season for skiers and snowboarders. this year heavenly, northstar, and kirkwood resorts are going to extend their ski season due the record breaking amounts of snow falling in the sierra. heavenly mountain resort will extend their season through april 28th plus 3-day-weekend may 3-5. northstar and kirkwood will extend to april 21. ( darya ) a big story this morning. p-g & e says it will likely be held responsible for causing the deadly camp fire in butte county. back in november ... the fire burned more than 153-thouasnd acres, destroyed almost 14-thousand homes and killed 86 people. in its latest earnings report ... p-g-&-e says it believes its equipment will be determined to be the likely cause of the fire. even though the company has filed for bankruptcy ... p-g&-e says it has set aside 10.5 billion dollars for claims from camp fire victims.
luck, good news, pge has money and it is reserving it just for you.">( darya ) the report also indicates p-g&-e is more than tw-thirds done with inspections of its power lines and equipment. ( james ) in national headlines ... the house intelligence committee says they are focused on finding out more about the president's potential criminal conduct. this comes after a closed door meeting with president trumps former attorney michael cohen. the committee wants to examine cohen's claims that donald trump junior told his father about the meeting with the russians at trump tower ... before it happened in june 2016. as well as claims that roger stone informed the president ... that wikileaks was about to expose emails from the clinton campaign. east bay congressman eric swalwell says the closed door meeting with michael cohen was very helpful and informative.

members. police say... tapia fled to durango, mexico... where he was tracked down with the help of the f-b-i. ( darya ) a big story this morning. the oakland teacher strike enters its 7th day. and it's not clear if the teachers union and the school district sides are getting any closer to reaching a deal. at 2 o'clock this afternoon ... teachers are going to picket at an oakland unified school district board meeting at la escuelita elementary school. teachers are demanding pay raises, smaller class sizes and more student resources like counselors and nurses. ( james ) (ááá2 shotááá) teachers in another east bay school district could join the picket lines. teachers in the san ramon valley unified school district are voting to authorize a strike as contract negotiations are entering their final stage. ( darya ) kron 4's will tran is in danville with more.
and more teachers in the east bay could soon strike. this is video as teachers walked out of california high school in san ramon yesterday. the demonstration happened during the lunch hour-- and d not disrupt classes. teachers also walked out during lunchtime at country club elementary. teachers with the san ramon valley unified school district are currently voting to authorize a strike as contract negotiations are entering their final stage. they are asking for smaller class sizes.. and more than a three percent salary increase.
( james ) republicans in congress have introduced a new proposal that could change your child's education.( darya ) kron 4's washington correspondent drew petrimo explains how it would work. students from across the country told stories of their lives being changed after receiving scholarships to attend better schools. "the school was like no school id ever been to before."they were there to speak in support of a new bill... that would use tax credits to encourage donations... for scholarships to private and charter schools. "education freedom scholarships will give hundreds of thousand of students across the country the power to find the right fit for their education."the bill is championed by education secretary betsy devos and alabama republican congressman bradley byrne.
"we consign too many children in this country to perennially failing schools."texas senator ted cruz was also on hand. he framed school choice as a civil rights issue. "every child in america has the right to have access to excellent education." flooding to our north has turned deadly. in humboldt county ... a man died after he was swept away by flood waters from the eel river. deputies say the man was trying to rescue his three children from his home in ferndale on wednesday. he waded through water that was about five feet deep ... before he got caught in a fast current. officials say three people drove a tractor through the high waters ... but could not reach the man. the children who were trapped inside the home were later rescued by officials.the man's identity has not yet been released.
