(á2 shotá)( james ) it was a big week on capitol hill and a big week for president trump who was in vietnam meeting with north korea's leader while at the same time his former personal attorney and fixer michael cohen was testifying before congress - mostly testifying about the president.(áboxesá)( darya ) washington correspondent alexandra limon breaks it all down for us, alex? michael cohen's public testimony was surprising and explosive at times...
9:20 am
because cohen is a guy who was loyal to the president for years and was the president's fixer - that's how cohen described his job. but this week he told congress that president trump is a racist, a con man; and a cheat. on one hand i've heard some reaction from lawmakers here on capitol hill that there was very little new information in cohen's testimony. and on the other some republicans say cohen is a liar and a criminal, and not a credible witness - in fact cohen is going to prison because he admitted to lying to congress among other things. but cohen did provide some evidence...beyond his words... for example a check signed by president trump...after his inauguration.... cohen said the check was a reimbursement for hush money cohen had paid to an adult film actress near the end of the 2016 election...to keep her quiet about an affair she allegedly had with the president. besides the public hearing...cohen also testified
9:21 am
at two closed hearings...befo re the senate and house áintellingenceá committees. it's unclear what he told those lawmakers. this was all happening while president trump was in hanoi vietnam. at a second summit with north koreas leader kim jong un. some lawakers said they were concerned the president would lift sanctions on north korea or give in to the dictators demands without much in return - to shift attention away from the cohen hearings.but that did not happen. in fact, talks broke down and the summit ended early... the president says kim jong-un was demanding a complete end to us and world economic sanctions against north korea, but the north koreans were only offering to close a nuclear research facility... far short of the u.s. demand that north korea must ágive up its nuclear weapons.
