( james ) in the east bay... a man is dead following a shooting at a bar in downtown oakland. it happened last night just after 7:30 at a bar on ninth street. another man was hurt in the shooting and taken to a hospital. police haven't yet released any information on the shooter. ( james ) new this morning ... bay point firefighters say a cannabis oil explosion at a home sent two people to the hospital and killed 6 animals. it happened last night on sara court .. that's near highway four in the delta. authorities say butane was being forced through marijuana leaves to create the cannabis oil. that's a concentrated form of t-h-c. two people inside the home were treated for smoke inhalation and burns. ( james ) the son of oakland city councilwoman lynette gibson-mcelhaney was shot and killed sunday morning.

2year-old victor mcelhaney was studying music at the university of southern california. los angeles police say he was killed in an attempted robbery less than a mile near the campus. police say three to four men approached mcelhaney and one shot him.. the group then fled in a vehicle.. he was taken to the hospital where he later died.. ( james ) councilwoman mcelhaney released a statement sunday night saying in part "victor was a son of oakland. he was a musician who drew his inspiration from the beat, soul, and sound of the town and he belonged in every nook and cranny of oakland. we are beginning a new chapter in this reoccurring circle of violence...and it will take all of us together to make it through this tragedy." ( darya ) new this morning. vacaville police say they have finally identified a woman who was found dead back in april of 1991. officials say the woman has been idnetified as cynthia merkley. her body was

found in a field where the vacaville premium outlets were being built. until now, police did not know who she was or where she was from. police say she lived in santa cruz and santa rosa. autorities are hoping this new information will lead to figuring out what happened to merkley. ( james ) happening today.... san francisco mayor london breed is announcing the city's new public defender.( darya ) the appointment comes after the death of long time public defender jeff adachi. kron 4's sara stinson is joining us live from city hall. i'm live at city hall where we're waiting for mayor london breed to announce who she will appoint as the new public defender.the person who will replace the late and longtime jeff adachi who suddenly died last month.adachi was 59 years old and in his fifth term as public defender.when mayor breed found out about his death she said san francisco has lost a dedicated public servant and our communities

half moon bay after a chunk of conrete broke away from the bluff at the pedestrian bridge. you may remember that a big section of the bluff gave way back in 20-16. metal barricades and sandbags are still set up to protect mirada road...from exposure to high tides and storm events.. san mateo county workers put up boulders on the beach to break the surf..but with the rounds of storms over the years, high energy waves and coastal conditions have caused the boulders to shift..leaving areas along mirada road unprotected.. a resident who says there's eroding issues on moss beach is hoping she can install a seawall in her backward where there's damage. an "erosion hot spot." city and coty planners are evaluating long term solutions to stabilize and protect the coast.. ( darya ) san francisco's streets took a beating in the recent string of storms. public works' pothole-repair crews have been worked through the weekend to patch the city's streets for a safer and smoother ride. they focused on 19th avenue, park presidio boulevard and lombard street. public works fills about 350 potholes during a typical dry month; the number balloons when it rains. this past february, for example, crews filled nearly 18-hundred potholes. ( james ) in the south bay,. city leaders in san jose have come up with a plan for r-vs parked on the side of roads across the city. the proposal is to create safe parking at churches and service organizations -- where people can park and sleep overnight. in addition to taking the r-v's off residential streets ... the plan is to also provide services to the thousands of homeless in need in the city.

it is very challenging from being able to find a safe place to leave your vehicle over night to just trying to get your basic needs.">( james ) if a business is interested in allowing people to park in their lots -- all they have to do is register with the city. the city says they expect the ordinance to pass within the coming weeks. ( darya ) police are looking for the person who is throwing objects at cars on a south bay highway. it's happened over several months along a stretch of highway 152.... also known as the pacheco pass highway. authorities say someone has been throwing objects at moving cars. it's happened at least 10 times... and mainly at night... however, the most recent incident happened during the day. no one has been seriously injured... but authorities say some victims were hit by the shattered glass. c-h-p is encouraging residents to call right away to report the incident. international airport ... after a man with a knife threatened sheriff's deputies. take a look. you can see the deputy pointing a gun at the man with the knife.the alameda county sheriff's office says the the man wanted to kill a deputy. the deputy tried to calm the man while continuing to point her pistol at him. officials says the man's goal was suicide by cop.the tense 3 and half minute ordeal ended with other deputies arresting the man without anymore trouble. ( james ) on the peninsula. the loud sound of airplanes may soon be a thing of the past for residents near s-f-o. new technology is being tested right now ... that could create quieter flight paths for airplanes. its called a ground based augmentation system. sfo officials say its part of new type of landing technology that really uses gps to produce new types of landings at sfo. it could provide benefits for the airport and those who live along the arrival flight path.

( james ) in world news...search operations are underway after an ethiopian airlines flight crashed, killing all 157 on board. the boeing 737 aircraft was en route to nairobi on sunday when it disappeared from radar six minutes after taking. eight americans were among the passengers. seven french and seven british nationals were also on board. the u-n issued a statement saying nineteen u-n staff members were among those killed. ethiopian airlines has decided to ground their fleet of

( james )( james ) dozens of people gathered at the state capitol for a prayer rally honoring stephon clark. the sacramento district attorney's office and the state's attorney general - - both determined there was a lack of evidence to file criminal charges against the officers who fatally shot the 22-year-old man last year. the officers believed clark was armed - and they feared for their lives when they shot him in his grandmother's backyard. clark was holding a cell phone and not a weapon. the prayer rally follows a tense week of protests with denstrators

graphic. here you see her on the ground - in obvious pain. the wildlife world zoo says witnesses saw her crossing over a barrier to take a picture of the jaguar enclosure. that's when the animal reached out and attacked her arm. the jaguar let go after a witness distracted it with a bottle. the woman needed medical attention but is expected to be okay. the zoo director says this is not the first time the female jaguar has hurt a park visitor. reporter: "has this jaguar ever hurt anyone?"mickey ollson: "she had scratched a person once before when they crossed the barrier."( james ) zoo officials say the jaguar never got out the jaguar never got out of her enclosure and won't be put down. 19th and d streets.thats where police say they found two men with gunshot wounds in the middle of the street. a 20-year-old man died at the hospital..while a 25-year-old man, suffered non-life threatening injuries. police have not arrested a suspect. ( darya ) the oakland unified school district is planning layoffs in the wake of the contract agreement with oakland teachers. the board voted monday to cut 22 million dollars from the budget to fulfill the new contract agreement with teachers. the district is planning to lay off more than 100 employees --- but the exact number has not yet been released. school officials must provide notice this month to the employees being laid off. they will take effect at the end of this school year in june. ( darya ) a memorial service was held saturday to remember the lives of the women who were killed a year ago at the veterans home in yountville. the memorial was held in the town community center. the veteran's home

( darya ) the 11th annual sunday streets in san francisco kicked off in the mission district over the weekend. yesterday, the open street event shut down valencia street to all cars and allowed people to get outdoors and experience the neighborhood. the event transforms an area into a car- free community space for everyone to enjoy. sunday streets started as a mayorial initiative by our current governor gavin newsom back in 2008. the event coordinator says it's been a hit ever since. this is just one of ten events this year - the next one is march 31st on mission street.
