( darya )( darya ) in the east bay... a man is dead following a shooting at a bar in downtown oakland. it happened last night just after 7:30 at a bar on ninth street. another man was hurt in the shooting and taken to a hospital. police haven't yet released any information on the shooter. home sent two people to the hospital and killed 6 animals. it happened last night on sara court .. that's near highway four in the delta. authorities say butane was being forced through marijuana leaves to create the cannabis oil. that's a concentrated form of t-h-c. two people inside the home were treated for smoke inhalation and burns. ( darya ) the son of oakland city councilwoman lynette gibson-mcelhaney was shot and killed sunday morning. 21-year-old victor mcelhaney was studying music at the university of southern california. los angeles police say he was killed in an attempted robbery less than a mile near the campus. police say three to four male suspects approached mcelhaney and one shot him.. the group then fled in a vehicle.. he was taken to the hospital where he later died.. ( darya ) councilwoman mcelhaney released a statement sunday night saying in part "victor was a son of oakland. he was a musician who drew his inspiration from the beat, soul, and sound of the town and he belonged in every nook

( darya ) new this morning. vacaville police say they have finally identified a woman who was found dead back in april of 1991. officials say the woman has been idnetified as cynthia merkley. her body was found in a field where the vacaville premium outlets were being built. until now, police did not know who she was or where she was from. police say she lived in santa cruz and santa rosa. autorities are hoping this new information will lead to figuring out what happened to merkley. ( darya ) happening today.... san francisco mayor london breed is announcing the city's new public defender. the appointment comes after the death of long time public defender jeff adachi. kron 4's sara stinson is joining us

live from city hall. i'm live at city hall where we're waiting for mayor london breed to announce who she will appoint as the new public defender.the person who will replace the late and longtime jeff adachi who suddenly died last month.adachi was 59 years old and in his fifth term as public defender.when mayor breed found out about his death she said san francisco has lost a dedicated public servant and our communities have lost a champion.everyone in the san francisco public defenders office were shocked to hear about his death, which is still under investigation - but foul play is not suspected at this time.breed hasn't given any hints to us about who she will pick to replace adachi before the november fifth election, but some think she could pick chief deputy public defender matt gonzalez. the 53-year-old is best known for his work defending the undocumented immigrant accused of shooting and killing kate steinle who was walking on the san francisco pier.however - it's still unclear who mayor breed will pick - she will announce adachi's replacement at 9:30 this morning here at city hall.live in san

( darya ) in the east bay ... tense moments caught on camera at oakland international airport ... after a man with a knife threatened sheriff's deputies. take a look. you can see the deputy pointing a gun at the man with the knife.the alameda county sheriff's office says the the man wanted to kill a deputy. the deputy tried to calm the man while continuing to point her pistol at him. officials says the man's goal was suicide by cop.the tense 3 and half minute ordeal ended with other deputies arresting the man without anymore trouble. the loud roar of airplanes may soon be a thing of the past for residents near s-f-o. new technology is being tested right now to reduce the noise of landing aircraft. kron 4's haaziq madyun explains how hit works.

aircraft was en route to nairobi when it lost contact six minutes after taking off sunday. eight americans were among the passengers. seven french and seven british nationals were also on board. the u-n issued a statement saying nineteen u-n staff members were among those killed. ethiopian airlines has decided to ground their fleet of boeing 737 max 8 until further notice. ( darya ) the max 8 jet has been involved in two crashes in less than six months, following october's lion air disaster which killed all 189 people on board.... forcing an investigation for the boeing jets now underway. the aircrafts are the company's bestselling passenger-jet... and officials will be looking at possible correlations between the two. china and ethiopian airlines have grounded all of max-eights until more is known.boeing has presented no evidence to suggest the two disasters are

create safe parking at churches and service organizations -- where people can park and sleep overnight. in addition to taking the r- v's off residential streets ... the plan is to also provide services to the thousands of homeless in need in the city. ( darya ) if a business is interested in allowing people to park in their lots -- all they have to do is register with the city. the city says they expect the ordinance to pass within the coming weeks. ( darya ) there's concern in half moon bay after a chunk of conrete broke away from the bluff at the pedestrian bridge. you may remember that a big section of the bluff gave way back in 20-16. metal barricades and sandbags are still set up to protect mirada

road...from exposure to high tides and storm events.. san mateo county workers put up boulders on the beach to break the surf..but with the rounds of storms over the years, high energy waves and coastal conditions have caused the boulders to shift..leaving areas along mirada road unprotected.. one woman in moss beach is hoping she can install a seawall in her backward where there's damage. ( darya ) half moon bay is considered an "erosion hot spot." city and county planners are evaluating long term solutions to stabilize and protect the coast.. ( darya ) in the east bay. the oakland unified school district is planning layoffs in the wake of the contract agreement with oakland teachers. the board voted monday to cut 22 million dollars from the budget to fulfill the new contract agreement with teachers. the district is planning to lay off more than 100 employees --- but the exact number has not yet been released. school officials must provide notice this month to the employees being laid off. they will take effect at the end of this school year in june. ( darya ) local high school and middle school students from oakland, san francisco, and marin county are planning to walk out of school friday morning to demand urgent action on climate change. they plan to rally at 10:00 a-m in front of u.s. representative nancy pelosi's office in downtown san francisco. from there they will march past the office of u.s. senator dianne

feinstein. the students are calling on both feinstein and pelosi to back the green new deal, as introduced by u.s. representative alexandria ocasio cortez. you may remember last month -- a group of youth activists recently demanded feinstein's support of the green new deal and were initially rejected in an interaction at her san francisco office that went viral. the students are also planning to rally at union square, where speakers will talk about the urgent need for the green new deal. hundreds of similar strikes by youth are planned in an estimated 75 countries. women in hollywood are having a moment. female directors...producers...actors -- all standing up to the status quo -- taking on commanding roles in an industry once ruled by men. viola davis is no exception. as shannon hegy tells us -- she may be a big star -- but she continues to give back to where it all began. it was here at jenks park in rhode island's central falls, that viola davis spent so much of her time as a child doing what she loved -- acting.

attacked by a jaguar while trying to take a selfie at a zoo in arizona is now apologizing. the video we are about to show you is a bit graphic. here you see her on the ground - in obvious pain. the wildlife world zoo says witnesses saw her crossing over a barrier to take a picture of the jaguar enclosure. that's when the animal reached out and attacked her arm. the jaguar let go after a witness distracted it with a bottle. the woman needed medical attention but is expected to be okay. the zoo director says this is not the first time the female jaguar has hurt a park visitor.
