coming to head-- the justice department charging fifty people in an elaborate scheme aimed at securing admission to prestigious universities... u.s. attorney andrew e. lelling/district of massachusetts: "we have charged three people who organized these scams, two s.a.t. or a.c.t. exam administrators, one exam proctor, one college administrator, nine coaches at elite schools and 33 parents." among the parents charged are several notable names, including ceos, a fashion designer, and actresses lori loughlin -- and felicity huffman -- who was arrested in los angeles.much of the indictment revolves around a man named william singer, the founder of a college preparation businessthe scam worked in two ways--through test scores and athleticsin some cases-- parents allegedly paying for third-parties on behalf of their children.in others-- singer contacted college coaches to help students gain admission as recruited athletes, regardless of their athletic ability.u.s. attorney andrew e. lelling/district of massachusetts: "for every student admitted through fraud an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected"in washington, i'm kristen holmes

(terisa) today-- former stanford sailing coach john vandemoer pealded guilty to his role in the scandal. kron 4's charles clifford has the details. well, here on the stanford campus on tuesday the administration and students are reacting to this latest scandal. so far it appears that only one person, the former head sailing coach, was involved in this scandal. he is john vandemoer and he is accused of accepting financial payments through an intermediary in exchance for giving positive reccomendations on the applications of two students. now, the university said on tuesday that vandermoer has been terminated. his profile was removed from the school's website. also the two students involved were never actually addmitted to the school.now, stanford is a difficult school to get into and difficult to stay in. students today say they are dissapointed by this scandal.sotyou hate to heard about these things. especially

when people work hard to get to the place where they are. when people cheat. it's quite dissapointing.sotobvioiusly this is unfair. the pessimistic side of me feels that this is super hard to combat so i'm glad the story is out there. i suspect it's happening much more than just here and more than we know. it's not a good feeling.the university also released a statement today saying, "based on the department of justice investigation to date, we have no evidence that the alleged conduct involves anyone else at stanford or is associated with any other team. however, we will be undertaking an internal review to confirm that."john vandermoer was expected to appear in court on tuesday and plead guilty to bribery charges. at stanford, charles clifford kron 4 news. (ken) in about a week -- disney and 21st century fox will be one company. the companies announced today that the merger of the two entertainment titans will take effect on march 20th. the 71 billion dollar deal was made official last summer. under the deal, disney will pick up the 21st century fox movie studio, a controlling stake in streaming giant hulu, and several cable channels including fox news channel and fox sports. the rest of what was 21st century fox will become a new company simply called "fox". (terisa) the european union is banning all boeing 737 max 8 and 9 model aircraft from its airspace following two deadly crashes. an ethiopian airlines flight crashed on sunday -- five months after an indonesian lion air jet into the ocean. the european aviation safety agency issued a statement today -- they can't rule out that similar causes may have contributed to both events. a team of u-s aviation

experts are in ethiopia to join an investigation on sunday's crash that killed 157 people. right now -- the u-s and canada are the only two nations that still allow boeing max planes. (ken)two brothers from shasta county were among the dozens of people killed in the plane crash in ethiopia.
