( darya ) a big story we are following this morning. the f-a-a has grounded all boeing 737 max 8 and 9 jets following sunday's deadly ethiopian airlines crash.( james ) the grounding is impacting travel at our local airports. kron4's sara stinson is live at s-f-o with more. at s-f-o at southwest - the airline had 31 boeing 737 aircrafts in they emergency order was put in place by president trump.boeing nine are grounded right now in the wake of the crash of an

ethiopian airliner that killed 157 people.other countries had previously grounded these planes already - but the f-a-a said it didn't have any data showing the boeing max's were unsafe and were against the pr trump issued the emergency order wednesday saying new information has come to light in the ongoing investigation into the crash.satelite based tracking shows there are similarities between the deadly ethiopian airlines and the lion air crash that happened back in october 20- 18. as dozens of countries continue to search for answers - the investigtion will continue on in paris, france. for now the grounding will definitely be impacting flights, but this morning we will check in with passengers to see how they're feeling about this...live at sfo sara stinson kron four

( darya ) ( darya ) ( darya ) in the east bay ... one man is dead and a woman is injured after a fatal police shooting in san leandro. this happened just after 4:30 yesterday afternoon ... following robbery at a business called "thrift 14th st avenue. when sheriff's deputies arrived on scene they found the man and woman in an s-u-v. after trying to make contact ... the car in reverse towards deputies.

that is when deputies opened fire. the man in the car died at the scene. the woman is recovering at a local hosptial for her injuries. none of the deputies were hurt. ( james ) happening tomorrow... the alameda coliseum authority will vote on a lease agreement to allow the raiders to stay in oakland next season. the raiders new stadium in las vegas is set to open for the 20-20 season and the raiders have been looking for a place to play this season. one coliseum offical says the teams had reached an agreement late last year but it fell apart after the city sued the raiders for moving to vegas. the new agreement would also allow the raiders to start the 20-20 season in oakland if the vegas stadium is not complete. if the coliseum authority approves the lease... it will still need to be approved by the city council. james ) this is police dashcam video from iowa. an iowa state trooper was talking to 30-year-old kyle long while long was waiting to get his car towed out of ditch. long told the state trooper that he was heading from maine to mountain view to speak with google executives. the officer called police in mountain view and long was taken into custody before he got to google. police in mountain view said long had three baseball bats in his car. police say that he was upset after his youtube chanel was taken down. continue to follow the latest regarding california's death penalty. more than 700 inmates on death row are getting a reprieve. governor gavin newsom signed a moratorium on executions across the state ... putting death sentences on hold. the governor argues the death sentence is unequally and unfairly used on the mentally disabled and people of color. and then there's the financial impact. the governor's office says the death penalty system has cost california billions of dollars since 1978. of all the states, california has the most people on death row. california has not executed any inmate since 2006. the order does not provide for the release of anwsom says he is considering commutg supports repealing the

on the nation wide college admissions cheating scam. san rafael's marin academy confirms that two parents were among those charged in the scandal. one of those parents is mill valley resident bill mcglashan jr. he had been on the board of trustees of the college prepatory high school but has since resigned since the story broke. he is accused of bribing a usc associate director to get his son recruited as a punter... despite the fact that marin academy doesn't have football team. another marin academy parent is accused by the feds of paying rick singer --- the ring leader of the scheme --- to help his daughter cheat on the sat test. and bribing to get her onto usc's water polo team by fabricating her athletic profile. marin academy has issued a statement saying there is no indication o ( james ) two legal and highly stanford university

college admissions bribery scandals. erica olson and kalea woods are suing several elite colleges, saying they were denied a fair opportunity to get into the schools. federal prosecutors say 50 people took part in a scheme that involved either cheating on tests or bribing college coaches. of those 50 people, 13 are bay area parents. ( darya ) the arrest of an undocumented immigrant accused in the murder of a san jose woman has sparked a new debate on whether or not local law enforcement should cooperate with federal authorities. carlos carranza was arrested in connection with the murder of 59 year old bambi larson of san jose. ice says they arrested carranza nine times in the past ... but he was released because of local sanctuary policies. those same policies are meant to protect undocumented immigrants who are ánotá considered a threat to the public. we talked to a santa clara county council member who says it's a local

( darya ) one of the police one of the one of the police departments involved is union city police. kron 4 reached out to them for a statement, but they have not responded. ( james ) new this morning... the shell oil company will have to pay 165- thousand dollars because of refinery violations. the company reaching a settlement... for 16 violations over two years... that include sulphur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide emissions in martinez. the revenues generated by the settlement will be used by the district to fund monitoring and enforcement activities. ( james ) now to the north bay. road construction could cause some delays for people in marin county. an emergency repair project will tie-up drivers on the 101 southbound between spencer ave

and the robin williams tunnels. cal trans is working to repave part of the road... which is expected to last until monday... and they're shutting down several lanes because of it. ( james ) caltrans says the work on 101 will improve the riding surface and enhance safety. but, with all this construction... be prepared to add extra time to your commute. ( darya ) new this morning... a hit and run driver is now behind bars. police arresting 41-year old nakleh kare. for hitting a woman walking along olden gate avenue monday. police saying they tried to chase him down, but lost him in the pursuit. he was later arrested tuesday and booked into jail, where he's being held without bail. ( darya ) south bay police arrested a man in possession of several illegal weapons. last friday morgan hill police received a report of a person possibly impersonating an officer.

when they served a search warrant at the suspect's house. they found a cache of weapons. including several magazines. 34 year old daniel korsunky was arrested ... and booked into santa clara county jail on felony weapons violations. ( james ) also new this morning... investigators have determined the cause of the third largest fire in california's history. the deadly 20-17 thomas fire was ignited by a pair of southern california edison power lines that came into contact with high winds. that's according to a report from the ventura county fire department. one civilian and a firefighter died as a result of the wildfire. more than one-thousand buildings were damaged or destroyed and nearly 300-thousand acres were burned. ( james ) happening today --- former empire actor jussie smollett is due back in court today to enter a plea in his disorderly conduct case. smollett is accused of lying to police about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack by two men in chicago at the end of january. prosecutoes allege smollet staged the attack because he was unhappy with his salary on the show empire and wanted to promote his career. a grand jury indicted him on 16 felony counts. prosectors and smollett's defense attorneys agreed to let cameras into today's hearing. from 37 to the toll plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) in the east bay ... dozens of students walked out of class to protest the adminstration's handling of racist graffiti being found on the walls of a campus bathroom. students at diablo valley college in pleasant hill are voicing their concerns by organizing a walk out of class and a rally to protest the incident happened a week ago and students say they were notified days later. as campus police investigate the incident ... diablo valley college officials say they strongly condemn the hateful graffiti.
