( darya ) in the east bay ... three homes are destroyed in a fire that broke out in the small community of bethel island. take a look at the fire consuming a home on the 27-hundred block of taylor road. the fire broke out just before 6 o'clock last night. the fire ended up destroying 3 homes before it was contained around 8 o'clock. fire fighters believe propane tanks may be involved in the fires.
evidence he's mentally incompetent to stand trial. today, they're scheduled to talk about the psychiatrist reports. ( james ) happening later this morning ... a crucial vote on whether the raiders will be playing in oakland next year. the oakland- alameda county coliseum authority will meet today to decide whether to allow the team to play at the colisuem for the 20-19 season, and possibly the 20-20 season. under the proposed plan, the raiders would pay 7-point-5 million dollars to call oakland home next season, and that number jumps to 10- point-5 million if they remain in the bay for the 20-20 season. the nfl says it cannot set its 2019 schedule until it finds out where the raiders will play their home games. ( james ) a heads up for commuters in the east bay... caltrans crews will be closing northbaound higway 680 just north of the benicia- martinez bridge. there will be various lane closures through out the day today. it will also be shitdown between 1 am and 5 a-m tomorrow morning. caltrans is warning people to be ready to use alternate routes during the closures.

( darya ) in the east bay ... four oakland police officers who fatally shot a homeless man with mental health issues ... have been placed on administrative leave. last march... 32-year old joshua pawlik was killed after police responded to reports of an armed and unconscious man lying between two homes. police say pawlik did not respond to their verbal commands. a federal monitor criticized the department's response ... saying the officers overracted to slight movements by pawlik. he also criticized the department's light punishment of the officers. bart plans to replace dozens of broken down escalators in san francisco. this after a nearly one-hundred- million-dollar contract was approved by the bart board of directors.( james ) kron 4's gayle ong has the details of this new escalator contract and what it means for riders. this is rush hour at the montgomery street bart station in san francisco..at 5:45 p-m thursday - people lining up..not for a train..but the stairs..this is why..
riders, constantly being met with an esclalator that's not working.">bart spokesperson alicia trost says this is one of 41 escalators in downtown san francisco that bart will repair, thanks to a 96-point- five million dollar contract approved by bart board of directors thursday. trost says current esculators at the embarcadero, montgomery, powell and civic center stations are made by different companies that are no longer in business... many of the units being replaced are the oldest in the entire bart system.the goal is to enhance rider safety and escalator reliability.trost tells us the nearly one-hundred- million-dollar price is actually under budget..

charging carlos carranza for murdering 59 year old bambi larson, inside her knollfield way home. carranza has been in and out of the criminal justice out of the criminal justice system several times. evidence includes surveillance video that shows him stalking larson and her neighborhood. carranza's dna was also found at the crime scene. ( darya ) in a statement, the family of bambi larson thanked police for their persistence in gathering the evidence necessary to arrest the person responsible for bambi's death. have new details about the man who was fatally shot by police in san leandro. he has been identified as 41-year-old charles ballard. he was fatally shot by police after trying to drive away from scene of a store robbery on wednesday. officials say ballard was a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history. he had an active felony warrant ... and investigators believe that may have motivated his behavior.

( james ) in north bay -- a student at santa rosa junior college is charged with rape. police say -- 19-year-old brandon cortes from petaluma ... sexually assaulted a female student on monday at the school's library. cortes is in sonoma county jail. his bail is set at 126-thousand dollars. (james) (james) the fallout from the college admissions cheating scandal is growing... two separate lawsuits have been filed now. lawyers are seeking 500-billion dollars in damages. kron 4's dan kerman has the latest. the class action lawsuit filed wednesday in san francisco superior court is filed by a bay area woman and her son against 45 parents, coaches,
administrators and admissions consultants.in the lawsuit jennifer kay toy says her son "graduated with a 4.2 grade point average.... applied to some of the colleges where the cheating took place and did not get in.... i'm now outraged and hurt because i feel that my son... was denied access to a college not because he failed to work and study hard enough but because wealthy individuals felt that it was ok to lie, cheat, steal and bribe their children's way into a good college." the lawsuit alleges negligent infliction of emotional distress, civil conspiracy and fraud. the lawsuit suggests 1- thousand people participated in the cheating scandal and than 1-million people people have been affected. as a result the suits seeks damages totaling no less than 500- billion dollars.in the meantime, a federal class action lawsuit filed wednesday
and amended thursday is filed on behalf of a 4 college students and their parents against admissions consultant rick singer and 8 universities including stanford that federal officials have tied to the bribery scandal. this students applied for admission to these universities they didn't receive what they paid for an "admissions process that was fair and free of fraud bribery, cheating and dishonesty." the lawsuit says anyone who paid an application fee to any of the universities but was denied admission get their application fee returned. ( james ) the shockwaves from this nationwide cheating scandal are still being felt....especially among students. city college... has a lot of students working on transfering to 4 year universities. those who have been keeping up to date on the college admission cheating scandal are shaking their heads at the news.
