freeway shootings from over the weekend. and one of them was deadly. the most recent happened in livermore. a 24-year-old woman was shot in the leg while driving on 580. it happened yesterday evening. the woman was sitting in the passenger side of the car. she and another person drove off the freeway to call police. the woman is expected to be okay. police do not have a description of the shooter or the shooter's car. ( james ) the chp is also investigating a freeway shooting on highway 4 in concord. this shooting turned deadly. it happened saturday afternoon... and this morning we have learned the victim's name. the chp was investigating a silver honda that had drven off the road and hit a guard rail on eastbound highway 4 at port chicago highway. officers found bullet holes on the driver's side door. the woman behind the wheel died at the scene. she has been identified as 25-year-old destinee hillery from antioch. she was the only person in the car. ( james ) an east bay school official is fighting for his life after he was shot by his wife in a domestic dispute. paul shatswell
was shot inside his home on barrie drive early saturday morning.. police say shatswell's wife, 39 year old maria vides, shot him.. ..she's now facing attempted murder charges. shatswell is a principal at the pittsburg adult education center. the superintendent released a statement saying in-part "his impact is wide across our pittsburg community. along with the shock and grief, there will be many memories of his love of music, friends, family, pittsburg, and his passion for education." ( will ) breaking international news this morning... three people have been killed and at least nine injured... two we are hearing are in serious condition.... after a gunman opened fire inside a tram in the netherlands. a manhunt is underway for that gunman. the shooting happened around 2:45 this morning. dutch police say they are considering terrorism as a possible motive. dutch police have linked a 37-year-old turkish man to the
shooting. we will continue to we will continue to follow this breaking news and keep you updated through out the morning. ( will ) if you take 880 in hayward can expect delays thisweek as cal trans begins work on express lanes. crews are closing the southbound lanes between winton avenue and highway 92. all lanes will be closed between 11:59 at night through 4 a-m tuesday and wednesday. crews will be installing 880 express lanes signs. detour signs will be in place during the closure. northbound side of 880 will also be closed. ( will ) there's a vigil tonight honoring the lives of those people killed in that shooting in new zealand. its happening at the lake merritt amphitheater in oakland. organizers say this a chance to express solidarity with the people of new zealand and peope who are
targeted by white nationalism. the vigil against islamophobia starts at 6:30. there are a lot of questions after terorrist attacks. kron four spoke with a bay area counter terrorism expert for some persepective. ron brooks says while each terrorist attack is different ... they all have hate in common. the new zealand gunman identifies himself as a white supremacist, acting alone. brooks says these attacks are intended to strike terror, but that there is no one group committing these acts. he says people are learning how to follow through with these awful crimes on websites that are difficult for law enforcement to find. brooks stresses that we
must continue to live our lives in the wake of terror attacks. continue going to our places of worship, parks, schools and other public places... brooks says this shows the brooks says this shows the terrorists that the public can't be intimidated. ( james ) a training for law enforcement officials that some critics called too militaristic is ending in the bay area. its called urban shied. the 4-day event features drills, and a weapons expo...allowing agencies from around the country to train together on how to respond to emergencies and acts of terrorism. after a year long review, the board of supervisors voted to shift nearly 5-million dollars away from the program -- causing it to shut down. alameda county sherriff greg ahern started the program in 2007. he says it was a chance for multiple agencies to learn critical public safety measures.

( james ) new this morning... a surfer had to be rescued after being stranded on rocks near the cliff house restaurant in san francisco. this happened around 7:00 last night. the surfer was not injured but a helicopter had to be called in because the rough waters made a boat rescue impossible. ( will ) a 12-year-old boy in vacaville was stabbed over the weekend while trying to stop a fight. it happened friday evening in the 300 block of mono drive. police say two men were arguing with another man when the child tried to intervene.
the 12-year-old was cut on the arm..one of the men was also stabbed.. they both are expected to be okay. ( will ) a bike accident in the south of market neighborhood of san francisco left a 30 year old berkeley woman dead earlier this month. now the accident has pushed the city to create another protected bike lane. ( james ) kron 4's noelle bellow has the story. we can't just keep piecing and adding little bits and little bits. it's just a bandaid on a bigger problem bicyclist fiona tay says the death of tess rothstein hit her hardits acutally really personal and im really angry it was just 60 feet away from where the protected bike lane startedon march 8th, rothstein was riding her bike down howard when she was struck and killed. witnesses say she had veered away from the bike lane to avoid being struck by the open door of a parked car. just days after her death, the city removed parking on the block rothstein was hit -- creating a temporary protected lane.. we can get a protected bike lane in pretty quikcly after someone is hit and killed charles deffarges is the
senior community organizer for the sf bicycle coalition the outpouring of greif and and support for protected bike lanes city wide has been enormous and we are mobilizing that to city hall with supervisor matt haney for demand for protected bike lanes city widewe want protected bike lanes for the full length of folsom and howard from the embarcardero to 11th. deffarges says right now projects like this can take years..many are wondering in the mean time -- what rights do bicyclists even have in the city?bike traffic is somewhat unique in sf.legal analyst steve clark says rothstein's family will likely have a civil case, but unless theres some level of intentional harm that was done, the chances of drivers being prosecuted is slim. i think what the case here would be is the da wouldnt have much to deal with because it was not involving the operation of the vehicle. mearly opening the door. with 10's of thousands of people riding their bikes in the city everyday, the coalition says enough is enoughwe understand the importance of enforcement -- but this is a design issue and we're pushing for better infrastructure. if there was a protected bike lane there, we wouldn't have to have the convo of who's at fault, who's guilty, in south of market noelle bellow kron 4 news

it was stuck 14 feet below a concrete walking deck. the pipe was only 4 inches wide. it took firefighters and animal control about an hour to get the kitten out of the pipe. the firefighter who rescued the kitten is now considering adopting it ( will ) a san francisco man is accused of tossing a puppy down a trash chute..causing severe injuries. last month, rocky was was found buried under feet of garbage in a dumpster at an apartment complex. the dog was dehydrated and suffered from a severely broken back leg... unfortunately, veterinarians determined the leg had to be amputated. 59-year-old ronald jones is accused of beating the dog and throwing it down a 3 story trash chute.. rocky spent 4 days and 4 nights without any food or water...
( james ) the california department of fish and wildlife is searching for the person responsible for separating two bear cubs from their mom. the 5-week-old cubs were found on highway 96 in yreka saturday. while officers investigate, the cubs are being looked after at a rehabilitation center in south lake tahoe. officers tried to find the cubs mother but didnt have any luck. right now they are staying in a crate..and being fed four times a day. soon, theyll move to a larger habitat, where they will have room to climb, play and learn to be more independent... they will have surrogate parents for the next year.
santa anita park has decided it wants to phase out the use of a very common medication called álasix.á. it is a diuretic given to racehorses that also helps their lungs handle the intensity of a race. the agreement between stronach group and the thouroughbred owners of california ensures that next year's crop of 2 year old horses will not receive the lasix medication. ellen jackson has been a trainer for more than 30 years. she believes removing the use of lasix is inhumane. jackson says what they really need to be doing is fixing the track surface. ( james ) 22 horses have died at santa anita park since the winter meet began in december. starting immediately; race day administration of lasix will be cut in half. races are expected to pick back up

( will ) a woman is searching for answers now that her mother's remains have finally been identified.. caitlyn cj johnson had been looking for her birth mother for decades.... she was taken away from cindy bilardi because of her mother's
substance abuse and homelessness. bilardi was last seen by her family in 1989.... then in april of 1991 some contruction crews breaking ground at the premium outlet mall in vacaville came across the body of a woman. police had been trying to identify her since then... new technology allowed for a better read of a fingerprint that investigators initially ruled unusable. police say bilardi would often hitchhike from san jose to santa rosa....but it doesn't explain how she turned up in vacaville.

( james ) happening today ... a memorial and vigil for stephon clark. it was one year ago today that clark was fatally shot by police in sacramento. family, loved ones, and members of the sacramento community are coming together to remember clark. over the weekend a number of events were held in his memory. and today ... sacramento's black lives matter chapter plans to march in the meadowview neighborhood where clark died. ( james ) 22-year old clark was fatally shot by police last march in his
grandmother's backyard. police said -- they thought clark was holding a gun. it turned out -- he was holding a phone. ( will ) robert turbin is an n-f-l running back, and a superbowl champion. and he's having a big impact off the field. i spoke to the east bay native who continues to give back to his high school.
