( darya )(ááálandingááá) a big story this morning. a 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head in oakland. this is a picture of the boy. his name is navaun jackson. his family says he accidentally shot himself in the head ... after finding a gun under a bed. the gun was unlocked and loaded. his family says navaun is now on life support ... after going through hours of surgery. but he has no signs of brain activity. there was heavy police presence in the oakland neighborhood where the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. it happened at a home on the 24-hundred block of ritchie street. a man and a woman have been detained by police ... but its unclear at this time what their relation is to the boy. kron4 spoke to a man who says he's the brother of the man who lived in the home where the boy was shot. he

says the young boy was his brother's friend's son and that they were visiting when the young boy left the living room and went to a bedroom in the home. ( darya ) here is another look at 4-year-old navaun jackson. his family will hold a his family will hold a news conference at 11 o'clock this morning to update us on his condition. we'll be sure to update you live on kronon. ( james ) in the east bay. berklely police officers are investigating a stabbing near the u-c berkeley campus. police were called to the 17-hundred block of shattuck avenue and found a man stabbed in the torso. another man was also found with a head injury after he was apparently hit with a chain. police believe the two men got into an altercation just before the incident. both men were taken to the hospital.

( james ) in the north bay ... classes will resume this morning at vanden high school in fairfield ... after officials closed the school because of a racist threat. the threat was made tuesday and the school was closed yesterday morning. the threat was made towards students at the high school. the district superintendent says police identified the students who made the threat ... and took disciplinary actions. ( darya ) as vanden high school investigates the threat ... a fairfield family is considering legal action against the school district and the students who they say made other racist threats. edward russell posted this video on his facebook. he says earlier this month ... there was a swastika spray-painted at vanden high school earlier this month and his 17-year-old son was named in the graffiti. the sign has been mostly cleaned up. but russell says he was disappointed to learn the students responsible were not expelled ... and that the school did ánotá treat the case as a hate crime.

( darya ) now the n-double-a-c-p is getting involved. they say there is a culture of racism at the school and the travis unified school district. our calls and messages to the school and school district were not answered. ( james ) new this morning. president trump is ordering the f-b-i and the justice department ... to launch an investigation into the jussie smollett case. this comes two days after all the federal charges were dropped against the actor. here is what trump tweeted out this morning. it says " fbi doj to review the outrageous jussie smollett case in chicago. it is an embarrassment to our nation!" the "empire" actor was accused of staging a hate crime on himself in january and filing a false police report in chicago. the actor maintains his innocence. there is a hearing on the case happening later this morning in chicago ... where smollett's record could be erased or sealed.

( james ) a local company that makes round up weed killer ... has been ordered to pay a bay area man 80 million dollars. a federal jury ruling that the company's product played a factor in causing the mans cancer. 70 year old edwin hardeman reached the settlement. he says using the product for more than 26 years ... caused his ánon-hodgkin's lymphoma. the company that makes 'round up' ... denies those claims.... but lawyers for hardeman say the jury has spoken and hopefully sent a clear message with this decision. ( james ) hardemann says the verdict hasn't sunk in yet... and thanked the jury for their time in deciding the outcome in this complicated trial. ( james ) new this morning... a woman is dead after a motorcycle crash in fairfield. this happened

around 8:45 last night eastbound on highway 80 at interstate 680. the victim was a passenger on the motorcycle... when the driver somehow lost control of the bike... and crashed... ejecting both people off. the woman... died at the scene. the male driver in critical condition... and arrested for d-u-i and vehicular manslaughter. police believe speed was a factor in that crash. ( darya ) a health warning for parents this morning. some local clinics have discovered what's being dubbed as "super head lice". that means the latest cases are resistant to most common treatments. this after a new report says the san francisco area saw a 20- percent increase in lice activity this winter, over the last year. the centers for disease control and prevention says head-to-head contact with an already infected person is the most common way to get head lice. though not life threatening... c-d-c says early detection is key. darya ) a treatment usually lasts for an hour to three hours. as for prevention, doctors suggest to make sure your child never shares their comb, brush, hat or scarf with anyone, not even a sibling. ( darya ) in the south bay... we now know the name of the man whose body was found in coyote creek. the santa clara county medical examiner's office... identifying him as 40-year-old rafael marquez. a hiker found marquez in the lake near monterey and metcalf roads last week. police said there is no indication of foul play. they also say he may have been homeless... because he did not have a listed permanent residence. ( james ) one of the worst mass murderers in bay area history has died. authorities say one goh died on march 20th at the

california state prison in sacramento. the cause of death has not been released. goh was serving seven life sentences after pleading no contest to the deadly shooting rampage on the campus of oikos university in 2012. seven people were killed and three others wounded. goh told police he had a grudge against the school because it refused to refund his tuition after he dropped out. he was convicted in 2017 and was given a life sentence for each of his murder victims. ( darya ) state lawmakers are pushing for a state-wide ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products. people behind the proposal want to tackle the skyrocketing use of flavored e-cigarette among teens ... by banning retail and vending machine sales of flavored tobacco. this comes as the c-d-c reports between 2017 and 2018 ... e-cigarette use among high school students increased by 78-percent, while use by middle school students increased 48-percent.

( james ) happening today... a meeting to talk about a possible breach of contract between the city of santa clara and management behind levi's stadium. the city owns the stadium ... and says they did not approve of a 643-thousand dollar bill used for maintaining the grounds. the city has issued a "breach of contract" letter to 49ers management for the bill and requested an audit of the santa clara stadium authority's spending. the 49ers government affairs division did not respond to a request for comment. the meeting to discuss the problem is tonight at 7 at santa clara city hall. this comes after years of bad blood between the santa clara stadium authority and the

at the safeway in mountain view say even though they weren't here on friday march 22 when the unidentified person allegedly shopped around the store -- hearing about another measles case is concerning. gahh no -- scary! since the vaccination was created -- there's been a 90% reduction in measles cases and deaths. yvonne maldonado is the chief of infectious pediatric diseases at stanford. she says overall -- we should be concerned about measles making a comeback measles is a killer disease, it kills children, it used to be one of the top killers of children in the world not that long ago. she says unlike the flu or other illnesses where touching an infected surface is the big risk -- the measles virus likes to linger in the air.. if you think about dust moats you see floating around, they don't just fall to the ground they float around that's what happens with these micro droplets health experts believe the droplets stay floating in the air for up to two hoursit could be direct,

( james ) a search is on hold for a husband and wife -- believed to have fallen into the sacramento river. crews stopped recovery efforts for now because they say the water there is just too dangerous. employees of a tow truck company say -- their bosses went missing tuesday. they believe the couple was involved in a crash that sent their tow truck over the bridge's guard rail. ( james ) rescue crews found the tow truck, roughly 30 feet underwater, by using sonar equipment. no word yet on when they will be able to retrieve the truck. ( darya ) coming up on the kron 4 morning news...stiff competition is creating a shortage of school bus drivers in san jose. now school district officials scrambling to find new hires. ins have reached an epidemic level recent years. but now a new prorgam to reduce break-in's in san francisco parking garages is showing promising results. the civic center garage is among the nine city-owned facilities upgraded with brighter lights, license plate readers and high- definition cameras that send video to a central hub. city officials say all of this has contributed to a 7 percent drop in car break-ins over the last 2 years in the all of the nine garages. and as more of these city owned garages are upgraded there will be additional improvements.
