and heavy smoke.. five air tankers were called out along with two helicopters to try and stop this thing from spreading.. and they've done really well.. calfire said after a couple of hours of being on the defense.. the retardeant hindered the flames significantly and once they reached over the hill the terrain kind of stoppd it in it's place.. calfire however says there were several factors that made this job challenging. part of it's the vegetation, part of it's the terrain.. theyre in very steep terrain working to contain the fire.. places where bulldozers can't work.. and that makes travel really difficult and so it takes more time to suppress that part of the fire and alongh terrain and the fuel was very heavy.. it just takes more time now the shooting range here at
the base of the fire was open at the time.. there were people there, but there were no injuries reported to the public or to fire crews.. calfire wants to remind everyone to follow their ready set go program.. and of course download the calfire app .they say now is the time to make sure you have a plan for your home, and of course continue to make some defensible space around your property, removing any flammable fuel around your home. but here now at the malech fire.. at last check it is 70 percent contained and crews are making great progrses.. they will be out here tonight and into tomorrow to ensure there are no more hot spots.. live in san jose, noelle bellow kron 4 news (jr)we now g has been burning since yesterday afternoon.kron 4's gayle ong joins us live.gayle, this fire has grown tremendously. how is it looking right now? the sand fire is burning on
