he just left her in the street to die. what happened inside that courtroom. >> michelle: and basic first aid. what you need to know if there's an emergency at your home and when you should call 911. we have our friends from a local paramedic company here in town to help us with some tips and good advice for all of us. >> announcer: news 3 starts right now. >> michelle: good afternoon everybody. thank you so much for joining us. the manhunt is over for that man sp police officers ambush style overnight. >> krystal: they were just sitting in their patrol cars and they were ambushed. we're talking about 46-year-old scott michael greene captured in dallas county iowa this morning. police say greene ambushed those officers. again, just sitting in their patrol cars. he is suspected of then driving a few miles before shooting a des moines police officer also sitting in a patrol car. the first officer dead at the scene. and the other des moines officer died at the hospital.

is set for november 17th. we'll send it over to michelle and our friends at community ambulance. >> michelle: if you have little ones running around or this is good information for anybody. but if you have little kids, it is a little more nerve-racking. it's important to know the basic first aid you know what you need to do. basic first aid for stuff that happens all the time. >> mostly stuff that happens at home. >> michelle: we have melanie bangle here with us from community ambulance today. we've talked about choking, drowning. but let's talk about something that happens pretty much every day in the household and you don't know what you are supposed to do. >> especially with kids. kids get into everything and trip and fall, little bobble heads fall over. they're head heavy when little. if your kids are outside and active they're going to be falling off bikes and getting cuts and scrapes. basic cuts and scrapes definitely wash with soap and water.

slight oozing, put a band-aid on it. if it seems to be bleeding a lot we have gauze pads and a bandage around it. if you are applying pressure and it doesn't stop bleeding after five to ten minutes, call 911. >> michelle: i always wonder, i mean, i guess you kind of know if it is a really deep cut but at what point do you take a kid to the hospital and have stitches put in. >> if it seems pretty deep maybe a 16th of an inch o urgent care and they can get stitchs there. you don't always need an emergency room. they can do x-rays to do see if there's fractures. sutures and stitches. if they -- if you get a sprain or strain and there's any kind of swelling always put ice it on. don't put ice directly on the skin. put an ice pack. you can actually freeze the skin. you can get little first aid

stores. they will have ice packs in them or make your own. put a towel down against their skin and put the ice pack on it for 15 minutes. if it seems swollen and they can't walk definitely take them to urgent care or the e.r. if there's an obvious break or their body part is deformed or the bone is sticking out call 911 at that point. if you try to put it back in place or move a severely broken bone you can cause more damage than goo stuff like that to help on the way to the hospital. >> michelle: let's get to these real quick. talk about the choking thing. we have 30 seconds. >> if you do get a burn run it under cool water for five to ten minutes. don't put it in ice water. that is the bad thing -- worst thing you can do. if they get blisters or anything, take them to urgent care or e.r. to make sure they can get the treatment for it. >> michelle: don't put ice on a burn. >> do not. run it under cool water. you can submerge it in cool

spiders or bugs. if you see the stinger in the skrin scrape it out with your nail or a credit card and put ice on it. if it seems like they're having an allergic reaction, redness of the arm or swelling of the face or lips call 911. if they get bit by a spider try to take it with you if you see the spider. they can determine whether it is a black widow or the recluse ones we have here. ice it first for pain then take them to urgent care or if somebody is choking you can tell because they make that horrible voice and they can't cough or breathe. ask them to cough. in they can cough they can get air in. if they can't cough give them a hug from behind. make a fist and put it right above their belly button and grab with the other hand and pull in and up. trying to push the air out of their lungs. if you can't get it out lay them on the ground and call 911.

we're going send it over to kelly. >> kelly: all right thanks guys. fantastic performance there. we want to take a look at the time-lapse. this is so far today. lake mead marina camera. we had breezy conditions throughout the morning. you can see the cameras shake, the ripples on the water. we have a lake wind advisory along the colorado river valley. that includes lake mead, lake havasu as well. winds gusting to 35 miles an hour as we head throughout the day today. and for the colorado river valley tomorrows pahrump at 70 degrees. boulder city 68. overton you are coming in at 65. that's the, again, the current temperatures. the las vegas valley upper 60s, low 70s, southeast at 71. lakes and summerlin coming in at 68 degrees. we've had some pretty strong gusts up to around 25 miles per hour. those winds will continue to diminish at least in las vegas as we get into the afternoon. the colorado river valley. those winds are ticking around. -- sticking around. we've got quiet conditions
