now to an update on a story we brought you as it was breaking-- a pilot's worst nightmare happened on one american airlines flight! smoke engulfed the cabin within minutes after takeoff! it happened on an american airlines flight traveling from san jose to phoenix. the pilot quickly made the decision to make an emergency landing in los angeles. sot- chief michael greenup/la fire dept - he was on the oxygen mask and also all the that time. all 125 passengers were evacuated. and 8 of them say they suffered respiratory irritation. as you can see in this video, the boarding area became a triage unit! sot - dean sheremet - there was pandemonium here and people were scattered getting oxygen, pretty scary day at lax? investigators say the smoke was possibly due to a hydraulic fuel leak, but maintenance crews are still looking into it.
