las vegas at 5... a toxic scare at walter johnson junior high. all students have been released now..but classes are cancelled. this morning, parents are fuming..and searching for answers. this all started yesterday afternoon when mercury was found inside the school's gym. students were kept through the night to be screened by the e-p-a. 13 action news reporter parker collins is at the school right now with brand new information. parker adlibs parker adlibs

a valley mom is devastated and overcome with guilt this morning. her 19-month-old son died last friday after he was beaten to death. police say pamela walker's boyfriend--duarte jeremiah fayne--is behind bars this morning. he was supposed to look after but now, he's being charged in the death. "i'm feeling saddned. i don't know how to feel-i'm just so numb- devastated." how did he get hurt-why wasn't i there?" police say fayne abused 19-month-old jasper walker so badly, his brain swelled. he died last friday from his injuries. walker tells us that she, her 2 young sons and the suspect moved from denver to start a

phoenix, arizona highway. police say someone shot her while she was on the phone with 9-1-1. she was driving alone and said 3 men in a truck were driving aggressively. she believed they were targetting her specifically. while on the phone, the dispatcher heard several gunshots. ( sgt. jonathan howard / phoenix police ) "while she was on the phone with 911, the dispatcher heard about three gunshots and the this caused a chain reaction of other accidents involving four vehicles. one woman in another car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police continue their investigation this morning. ahead today.. the stadium committee will be meeting once again. and they're shifting some of their attention to police and it could impact your wallet. the committee is asking the governor to add police to the strip and downtown. they are talking about raising the sales tax in clark county by one tenth of a percent.

remain the hospital after a school bus crashed in illinois yesterday. the crash happened northwest of chicago. investigators say a car pulled out in front of the bus. the bus drove partially onto the car, then rolled onto its side. the drivers of both vehicles are also in the hospital. the f-a-a and n-t-s-b are in

they're trying to get to the bottom of a mid-air plane crash that's left 3 people dead. witnesses say both single engine planes crashed because they were trying to land at the same time. there's only one runway at the regional airport which is just west of atlanta. the airport is one of 20-thousand nationwide with no one directing traffic. sot ralph hicks: both aircrafts were on final approah to land, they came together and they stayed together, and came down together to the ground authorities say one of the pilots. back here at home.. police are still looking for at least 2 suspects in connection to a string of robberies. here's a look at all the locations. 4 businesses in total were hit early yesterday morning. we're told the crooks got away with very little from 2 of the businesses. thankfully, nobody was hurt. but witnesses say they were carrying guns. one employee near durango and spring mountain says crime in the area is happening more and more. alex cunanan, sicily's pizza

north las vegas police say they're making some changes--and admit mistakes were made. this after accused killer alonso perez escaped from their custody. this is his new mugshot..taken shortly after detectives have also released new video showing how perez was able to escape... beth has more on that. todd...detectives have released this video that shows perez breaking out of his cuffs. you can see him trying to use his body weight to get the cuffs off. once they break...he sits there for a few minutes before clmibing onto a chair and through the celining. this happened inside an interregation room at the north las vegas police station near

prison. 59-year-old otis holland learned his fate in court yesterday. he has the possibility for parole after 60 years. holland was convicted earlier this year on charges of having sex with teenage girls in his congregation. the trial of a val charged in the brutal rape and murder of 15- year-old alyssa otremba is being pushed back. javier righetti admitted to stabbing and sexually assualting otremba in 2011. his trial was scheduled to start october 3rd but his defense attorney wants the death penaly off the table. he claims righetti can't be given a death sentence because he has an intellectual disability. an expert is now being called-in to evaluate righetti's mental capacity.

huge fire that destoryed an apartment complex near serene and las vegas boulevard. firefighters say they battled the fire for 3 hours because a gas line kept re-igniting. many people weren't allowed to immediately go back inside their homes. that's because the building asbestos--which is dangerous to breathe. firefighters say one person was taken to the hospital. still no word yet on how it started. right now, police are working to get these guys off the streets. investigators say these three men are suspected in several armed robberies at businesses in the southwest part of the valley. the suspects entered several businesses with guns and demanded money. nobody was injured. you can see one of them wearing
