at the "arch of reno wedding chapel" they expect more than 300 marriage licenses to be issued in washoe county over the three day weekend alone. "it was the perfect weekend, every piece fell into place with the city, the weather and the people, it's our day of the year for this industry where we perform ceremonies". one couple... asiel castillo and his wife shannon... traveled with their daughter from the bay area so they could tie the knot on valentines day. marino says with so many couples like them coming to town ... weddings on valentines day bring a boost to the reno economy. and today is president's day, which means another big weekend for the ski resorts. at alpine meadows and squaw valley, skiiers were enjoying one of the most snow- packed winters in the past few years. officials are expecting a full

"we have a 10 foot base up hare, and we've gotten 25 feet of snow. so the message has definitely caught on. there's a lot of happy faces up here." squaw valley alpine meadows is also kicking off a week-long kid-o- rama. it coincides with ski-skate week, where students in mountain schools have the week off to take advantage of the conditions. kenney says the event is a big draw for both the kids, and the resorts. all week long, there will be live music, hula-hooping, tubing, mini snowmobiling, and skating for kids and families. the busy weekend isn't the only the busy weekend isn't the only success for squaw valley - alpine meadows. they were also just selected as the best ski resort in north america. after being nominated as one of the top 20 resorts by u-s-a today and 10 best... they were picked as the winner of the 2016 readers' choice poll for best ski resort. squaw valley alpine

turning to campaign 20-16 bernie sanders made his way back to nevada on saturday... taking advantage of his time before the nevada caucus to speak with residents. one of the senator's stops was at the university of nevada... in front of a packed

real solutions for real people. he discussed the importance of creating an economy that works for working families and his planned investment in jobs for young people. both bernie sanders and senator cory booker... who was there on behalf of hillary clinton... also took questions from the crowd. later... sanders spoke to a group of solar power activists... showing his support for sustainable energy. "we have a moral responsibility to transform our energy system away from fossil fuel and that's what people here in nevada have been trying to do." shortly after... he adressed a larger group of supporters at a canvassing event. sanders says with the hard work from his volunteers, he feels his campaign is ready leading up to the nevada caucus. and another presidential candidate is stoping in northern nevada today. hillary clinton will be holding a rallys in elko and reno just 5 days before the democratic caucus.

there will be a clinton rally later this afternoon. good morning ky. happy president's day john and andi! with the democratic caucuses this saturday and the republican caucus a week from tomorrow, quite a few candidates are going to be in northern nevada in between now and then. bernie on saturday and today, hillary clinton is coming. here are the details... first,she will be at adobe middle school on jennings way in elko for a get-out-the-caucus event. doors will open at 8 a-m. then the former secretary of state will travel to reno for a woman's health meeting at u-n-r. according to the clinton campaign, this event will center around healthcare for young women and be a discussion based event that will last about an hour starting at 12:15 p-m. and finally she will be here at truckee meadows community college for another get out the caucus rally. doors will open at 2:30 p-m. just last month, former president bill clinton was at the boys in girls club in reno

valentine's day was just yesterday. so...to celebrate --some of you may have bought chocolates, gave special notes or giant teddy bears. but...at pennsylvania's washington hospital, there were a few valentine's that were dressed for the occassion. take a look at this... newborn babies were decked out in red hats and tucked in envelopes created just for them. volunteers from the american heart association knit the hats for all babies born in february--at participating hospitals. the program is called "little hats, big hearts." it raises awareness for heart disease, in addition to celebrating valentine's day. some special-needs teenagers had a notable night last week, as more than one hundred gathered for prom in colorado springs.

welcome back. the public utilities commission of nevada decided to uphold nearly all of its december decision that changes the way solar customers are billed. it reduces the credits they get for excess power their solar panels generate... and increases their usage fees. the commission decided to phase in the changes over 12 years instead of four... to ease the burden on solar customers, and said the new rates are more fair to traditional energy users... who they claim have to subsidize solar users. but solar companies say the changes will effectively kill nevada's rooftop solar industry. solar companies in nevada have come together to fight the decision... and possibly get a referendum on the november ballot.

on friday... the school overcrowding and repairs needs committee voted unanimously to put a sales tax increase on the november ballot to pay for school capital improvement projects. if ballot question w-c-1 passes, the sales tax in washoe county would increase to 8 point 2-6-5 percent... up from the current 7 point 7-2-5 percent. the committee was considering whether to go with a sales tax or a property tax increase in order to raise the nearly 800 million dollars for capital improvements for schools. officials say without the proposed increase, there will be double sessions in washoe county high schools and junior high schools, and almost all elementary schools will go to year round or multi-track

should replace him. -nats- a white hearse carried the body of antonin scalia to a west texas airport sunday...bound for virginia at the request of his family. the 79-year-old supreme court justice passed away suddenly over the weekend while vacationing at this resort ranch. a county judge ruled scalia died of natural causes after consulting with his physician and sheriff's investigators: "one of the things i did ask the sheriff and the marshal that was there if were there any signs of foul play? what did they say? a debate is now raging among candidates on the campaign trail over who president obama should nominate as scalia's successor. the president has the right and responsibility to nominate a new supreme court justice "we cannot afford to have scalia replaced by someone like the nominees he's put there in the past." the president says he will nominate a successor "in due time."
